No- they actually seemed to return a lot. Someone said 9 of 11 starters on defense. Not sure how many on offense but at least half(?)

It's a mix- Moeller an uptempo package where the QB comes to the line with two or three options every play. They have a hold package where they come to the line, get set, review the defense then call it from the sideline. In that respect the two programs are similar. Where they are not similar is in the number of BIG, fast athletes. No amount of tactics can overcome that kind of disparity. The spread offense Cov Cath uses is the best suited against a physically superior team- not going to ground and pound it against Moeller unless you have multiple D1 kids on the O-line. Defensively, they will need to stop the run. I don't think this years Moeller QB (Crable) is quite as good throwing or running as last years QB (name escapes me) but- he manages the game well and doesn't make mistakes.

I certainly don't agree that Cov Cath handled Campbell like they did Dixie. And I don't think it was necessarily "dominating". But it was 28-14 after three quarters of Varsity play. Then JV came in 4th quarter to extend it to 42-14.

I've seen Moeller this year and going just by the look test I do not believe Cov Cath can match up man to man on O and D. Some players maybe- but certainly not 22. I hope upon he that I am wrong.

Too many kids playing both ways IMO. Whether that's changing with the new regime. I don't know. I do know the past few Frosh teams (who have undoubtedly been fantastic) had @ 9 out of 11 starters playing both ways. That practice does two things: 1) Its hard to sustain at the 6A level so it's success is usually short term. 2) It can discourage the 2nd and 3rd team kids from participating in subsequent years. Kids you would need if developed.

I don't know, Mo is awfully- and I mean AWFULLY- big and fast. If it comes down to the kicking game I would be ecstatic- and shocked.

A Moe win- but want it to stay closer than last year. Most of all for everyone to stay safe and no injuries. This is the game last year where we lost Our WR Braun to a collarbone injury. It was also Dressman, Darlington and McGinneses first start and it showed. Want to see how Wagner improves things and how the other two have grown. Very interested to see how our WR's do. On defense, I am also interested to see how our D Line and LB's fair against a terrific O-Line.

They've run that play once in almost every game since last year. Anybody with film would know they have it.

100% agree. Can't teach height but kind of plodding. Will need to get that improved. Also agree on Moore- I thought he actually looked better his Soph year. He had time- mostly because Cov Cath rushed three and played contain of him- but couldn't read the defense for the most part. I truly expected this to be a slobber knocker from what everyone was saying about Dixie heading into the season. Either Dixie is not as good as advertised, or Cov Cath is better. I'm hoping the latter. Today we were also without Dressman (holding out to rest shoulder I think), starting guard Baute, who is out with a knee injury and McGinness, who rolled his ankle in practice. So kids stepping up big. This was as complete and convincing a victory as you will see in all phases of the game. McDowell was a beast today- scored on a punt return, a reception and threw a TD on a reverse pass.

Doesn't sound like offense is near as big an issue as defense. Maybe you should suggest that these two studs your talking about ask the coach if they could play that side of the ball instead of continually harping about who is starting at QB.

Seems like your focusing your beef with offense and perceived lack of a running game ( which I disagree with since the QB in Cov Cath's offense is considered another running threat with designed QB runs and they have had much success with that in place.) When Highlands has won recently, it's usually been because their offense has been so quick strike through the air. Not ground it and pound it. The difference is speed- they usually had more of it on offense than Cov Cath had on defense. Has zero to do with "toughness".

Think that's because of the mandatory two week acclimation period. (?)

There's a thread about this a page or two back, but I'll give my two cents on a few that I know of: Cov Cath Sam Murrer- OT (Sr) Great size, motor and leader. Turned into a mauler. Offers from WKU, Miami, Oh, Ohio U and others. Jake Stiens - DE (Jr) Very fast off the ball- not huge, but strong and quick. Great motor. Chandler Brooks- DE (Sr) Same as above - A little slower than Jake but stronger. Beechwood Brayden Combs- OT/DE (Jr) Physically looks like a Frosh- in college. Great explosion. Great baseball player Dixie Branden Johnson-OT/DE (Sr) Good motor, strong and agile which should be expected from a state wrestling champ- I think he's a better DL than OL which what I'm guessing he was recruited for. I know there are a lot more, but that's all I have time to comment about right now- got to get to work!

I can assure you that no one on the Cov Cath staff or team is underestimating Dixie.

Well - not sure what Dixie game you watched last year, but I saw a team that lost it's starting RB and QB on sequential plays- get smacked in the mouth the next two quarters only to tough it out and find a way to score and hold on to a win. Then I watched that same team lose what seemed like a starter each week only to have the next guy in line dig deep and perform higher than ever. So I'm not sure what your definition of "tuff" really is, but this team is tough.

There was a poor Dixie punt- but as I recall, there was also a Cov Cath punt which was blocked deep in their territory that either resulted directly into a TD or set up a short TD. Great game last year- I would expect the same this year (but I hope not

I'm going to disagree with Guru from the game thread post when he gave his thoughts about last years team being better. I think this years defensive backfield is not as good- but that's no slap in the face. I do believe with Zumdick and Alex Wagner back there as a steadying influence, that they can get there. The D-Line returns everyone- two of the three LB's are new to the starting lineup, but an athletic group. Offensively this is a fast group. The WR corp is overall quicker than last years group. No one as big as Braun but as he missed most of the year some of these same kids got to develop into what we see today. Wagner is slippery quick and- as proven today- has a very nice arm. I'm confident that by the end of the year, Wagner will be in the conversation as one of the top 2-3 QB's in N Ky. Had to have over 200 yards passing to go along with his 4 TD's by halftime. When Dressman gets back in full swing, it obviously just adds to the QB dynamic. The RB Darlington gets solid north and south yards- tough blocker in pass Pro and good outlet on screen plays. Last but not least, I think this O-Line, anchored by Sam Murrer, is going to be a very good group- IF they can stay healthy all year. There were times today when Wagner went back to pass that you couldn't have drawn more ideal pocket protection. The cherry on top is the kicking game and that we have a steady place kicker in Hornsby. I know he missed a PAT today after an illegal procedure pushed them back- but it is worlds better than last year. Foertsch returns as one of the top punters in N Ky. So I do think this years team is better- but it doesn't matter till we win District and move on in State. Couple last thoughts on this game. - I thought Boone looked good in the 1st quarter. They drove the ball with a nice mix of run vs pass and found receivers open in the middle of the field. As someone alluded to earlier, I'm not sure why they got away from that. - Defensively, they stifled CCH the first two series. It was the muffed punt return that started the tidal wave. - I thought the officiating crew was mediocre at best. The roughing the passer call which resulted in taking away a nice interception by Summe, was NOT roughing the passer. The defender was a 1/2 step away and in mid lunge as the QB threw it- pretty obvious. The celebration penalty in the end zone after a CCH TD was silly- didn't see anything excessive. Cov Cath does need to clean up a few things in the illegal procedure side of things.

My understanding is that in games with pads, games are cancelled if over 100 on the field. Games with no pads (ie: soccer) it is 104. I don't know what it was down there but I don't think it was 100 yet. Getting there, but not yet. I heard it was a combination of the heat and Boone wanting to call off the dogs as they had some kids dinged up and puking. Either way, it's unfortunate as the JV kids didn't get a chance to play today and the JV game against Boone Co @ Boone on Monday was canceled late last week by Boone as they had their field double booked with soccer.

I've always thought England was on the wrong side of the ball myself. I think he could have developed into a hell of a Hybrid DE/ OLB. Very fast and can be a terrific TE but runs too straight up and down as an RB- just my two cents. If he plays in college it wouldn't surprise me in the least to see them put him on D.
