The better question is whether UCONN could beat CovCath's JV team...and I am not trying to be funny. I love watching UCONN's women too. I LOVE the way they play. What makes Geno so good IMO is that his teams ALWAYS play totally unselfishly. They pass the ball extremely well and play for each other. They really do run a clinic offensively. That being said, let's be real here...

I think we are conflating a lot of issues into this thread not related to football. The thread question is about whether a parent wants his kid to play football. I already gave my view. Believe me, the fact that I would not want my kid to play football does not make me "soft" and I resent the implication. I may be a lot of things but soft is not one of them. As we learn more about head injuries, any parent should want to know more about whether the pros outweigh the cons of playing football. Reasonable people may look at the information and come to different answers but to dismiss people that are not excited about their kid playing football as soft is just lazy and ridiculous IMO. And I do think that as a society we have coddled our kids in the last 10-20 years. But that is a different thread topic.

This is where I am at. I played football for a few years growing up but then settled in on hoops and baseball in HS and baseball in college. I have two daughters so there was never a football decision. If I had a son and he REALLY wanted to play football, I would let him. However, I would NEVER push him in any way to play and would actually tell him I am not a fan of him playing...but would let him play if he really wanted to. And I know you can hurt playing any sport. I have seen horrific injuries in baseball and basketball and soccer, etc. However, you are kidding yourself if you think the chances of significant head injuries is as much in those sports when compared to football. Football is a collision sport. The others are not. I respect the guys who play it but I would not be excited for my kid to play...just my opinion.

I agree that Trinity beats CCH 19 out of 20 years (heck, maybe even 20 out of 20). But is this the one year that CCH could beat them? I don't know but think CCH could keep it close. And I am a Highlands guy.

I am just asking because I have no idea. My question to the CCH experts on BGP, how many guys on this CCH team will play D-I college football? I am not saying that is the most important thing to be a great team but am just curious...I know the article mentions up to 7. Is that optimistic? Or realistic?

I hear what you are saying JD...but... I don't think any HHS fans think the past couple of teams have been as talented as the championship teams. However, this team was plagued with very questionable play calling in many games this year IMO...including in some games it won. Could this team beat CCH this year with another coach? No. Could it easily be 9-3? Yes. Frankly, Hoge bailed this team (and coaching staff) out a few years ago. That is the only reason this coaching staff has won before. I am not saying this staff is horrible. I just think HHS could do better...much better in fact. There are a lot of good coaches who would love this job too. I just think a change would make sense.

I tend to agree with you but HHS fans remember Jared Lorenzen in control his junior year (mud bowl playoff game)....

The way CCH is destroying everyone this year, it reminds me of some of the dominant HHS teams when we get to this point in the season wondering, "what will happen if the players actually play a close game. Will they be able to handle pressure in the 4th quarter when the game is not over?". That is really the only question left for this CCH team. They will win easily next week but what I am interested in is how they will play against BG, who is used to playing big games and will most likely not be intimidated. I still think CCH gets it done but that is what I am looking forward to seeing play out.

I have to admit I agree with them. I don't like to casually talk about people losing their jobs but I will say that play calling seemed to be a major issue all year...including last night...

I have to admit I laughed a little when I read this...good stuff. I have no inner knowledge of the decision making that goes on at HHS now. I hope for everyone involved, he just steps down. I am not saying he is a terrible coach but what is going on at HHS now is not working. Time for a change IMO.

I think I agree with you but need more information. Can Bowman kick a 50 yarder in the colder weather? Also, was the wind against him? If so, there may not have been a choice.

Wow...what a nightmare loss...failed 2 pt conversion...blown 2 TD lead in the 4th Q AGAIN...cannot recover an on-sides kick AGAIN... This may be better than the most likely running clock that CCH would have put on the Birds next week. As a HHS fan, I hope CCH brings it home this year.

I am watching the Elder -Lasalle replay on TV (from last night) this morning. On the bottom line scroll, it is giving HS scores throughout Ohio. It said "St Xavier 16 - St Xavier 14...lol...did not identify which was which!!! I had to come on here to find out who won!

Can anyone comment on whether HHS is getting healthier? Are they getting guys back who have been out? I know they were a mash unit a couple of weeks ago but do not know the status of some of the injured guys now...

Sounds like HHS is REALLY beat up right now. My buddy Ham (stat guru) told me that 5-6 defensive starters did not play due to injury...I was not there. I believe they are better than last year but not great by any means. I would like to see them at full strength (or at least to full strength) to be able to tell.

I was there and my take: Nice comeback win for HHS. It looked bleak at first. I was very disappointed in the play calling most of the game by HHS as they kept trying to establish the run when it was not working and the passing game was. IMO, HHS should use the pass to establish the run and not vice versa. Regarding the officials, I was sitting RIGHT IN FRONT of both the plays that the fans are talking about. I am 90% sure the CC punt returner touched the punt that the ref said he did not. I would love to ask the kid and hear his honest answer. I about lost my mind on the block in the back call on the interception return because it clearly was NOT a block in the back AND it had no bearing on the play. Just a terrible call and I am glad the refs overturned after discussing it. I thought the CC play calling in the OT was awful. They ran the ball on 3rd and 9? Anyway it turned out to be a very enjoyable game to watch. I think CC was probably the better team but 3 turnovers means you lose most games. HHS had 1 but it really was not a turnover IMO because it was on 3rd and long and was more like a punt on 3rd down than on 4th down.

Sorry to hear this about Dale. I won't pretend to know him well but did get to meet him a few times in my days at HHS playing hoops and baseball. I remember listening to a radio broadcast of a game I played in - after the game later that night. It was really cool listening to his pat sayings..."write it down and circle it" or "Jones from 18...he shot it 17"... I will also never forget his radio show when he interviewed a bunch of us when we won the 9th Region baseball crown. He and Kenny Anderson interviewed us. I was on cloud nine for a year...great memories...

As a Highlands fan, I will say this thread has been very cool to follow. Keep the stories coming. The Keith Stowers story is so sad...

Ru, I totally agree with the quoted line above. I don't consider myself "most people" though as my dad is a retired police officer and he told me MANY TIMES he did not want me to follow in his footsteps. Anyway, I do think the normal times officers get grilled on the stand by a-hole defense attorneys is different than this though since McVay is now the center of things and in a very public way.
