I never root against NC, despite NKYFootballFan91. Hoping for an NC win, but I expect the Camels will edge out the Breds in a close one.

Overall, Highlands played a very sloppy game. Close to 100 yds. of penalties against Highlands. Multiple defensive off sides, offensive holding, pass interference call, etc. CCHS gave up two safeties due to punt snaps out of the back of the end zone. The first TD was Nick Kendal rushing followed by Hergott rushing extra pt. for 2: 8-0 CCHS scored on a Wilson run and kick extra pt: 8-7 Campbell again scored a rushing TD and extra pt: 8-14 CCHS Two safeties out of the back of the end zone: 12-14 CCHS James Grau TD for HHS rushing, extra point failed: 18-14 HHS Hergot rushing TD, failed extra point, Final HHS 24-14.

I look forward to seeing NC play. I have heard a lot about the skilled players, but what about the O-line and D-line. Who are the linemen?

I have not seen NC this year. Therefore, I will hold my initial thoughts until I see them play. However, it's too bad we will never get to see this hypothesis tested.

Saying these boys went to Highlands only because of football is ridiculous. NC is too good a school to be embarrassed like this. Remember, your words are seen state-wide and beyond. Carl Foster used to say, "You are better than that."

#1 Ziegler. Never saw him play. He was legend. #2 Frank Jacobs. Cornerstone of one of NC's best defenses (1984: 6.2 pts a game). Dominating noseman. At split end he was hard to stop. 6''6' 230 and usually the fastest guy on the field. Jumped like a basketball player to go get it. Easy to throw to. Gary Gabbard had a great career throwing to him. #3 Greg "Red" Kremer. Old school middle linebacker. Left NC leading tackler for a career. Played both ways two years (center and inside backer). National merit scholar. Broke down tape better than the coaches. He knew where the ball was going on every play, got there, and made tackles. Can't say enough about his intellect and how it impacted games. Captain of one of the best defenses in NC history. Went to Rose Hulman and became the program's leading tackler. #4 Jeff Brady. Great jr. year. Out seven games of his sr. year with a broken leg. Came back and played well. Had a better college career and an even better pro career. Put his heart in an ant and your would have a great football player. #5 Mike Kiernan. Unbelievable physical specimen. Ridiculous strength. When he was healthy, he dominated. Seemed to play hurt most of the time. Honorable mention: Mike Kelly.

Anyone else like to see Highlands and NCC play one another in football again? Both have multiple state championships in the 2000's. Given that they are only a few miles apart, it seems logical that this rivalry should fire up again. They play in every other sport. Why not football?

I saw the last hour of yesterday's practice. O-line vs. D-line rushing a fake qb and pass blocking. They were going hard but it was tame.

As been stated before: great freshman teams do not equate to championships at the varsity level. Beechwood's 2008 frosh team destroyed HHS as freshmen and never won a championship. Good luck to you, but your logic is flawed. It's entirely different at the varsity level.

The quality of a program is a function of the percentage of players that are self-motivated to be the best they can be. If I have five kids that are committed to work to get better on and off the field, I will be beaten by a team that has 50+ that have the same level of committment. The formula is simple: Encourage kids at an early age with parental support to be committed to this end and you will have a winning program. This is a communality of winning programs (Elder, Trinity, Highlands, etc.). It's not PED or recruiting. Build it and they will come. Good luck!

At the time the Jumpers were ranked #1 in the State and Fletcher had set records for rushing. I don't think they expected to get shut out at home. Revenge is best served cold.

He was frustrated. He wasn't used to being treated so rudely. Teams in the southern part of the state let him run all over them. NC shut him down.

Think about his group of linebackers playing the 4-4. Jeff Brady (NFL linebacker), Frank Jacobs (Notre Dame), Red Kramer (Graduated all-time leading NC in tackles), and Jim Cain. A lot of 3 and outs.

Captains were Jim Cain, Tom Allen, Rob (Monk) Messmer, and Greg (Red) Kramer. I have the district games, Jumper game, and State game on VHS.....somewhere.

I will always remember the one throwing his program to the ground. They weren't happy.

In 84 Brady played "Rocket" against the Jumpers. Brady went wherever Fletcher went. Fletcher got 13 yards on 14 carrries. The defense gave up 6.2 points a game with seven or eight shout outs. That defense was punishing and got a lot of turnovers.

You're right. The 83 team played a great game in Newport. That was a sad night.
