No tiebreakers. Co-Champs. The fact there is no tiebreakers is just more proof that the NKAC means absolutely nothing. If there were tiebreakers Ryle lost to Campbell and SK beat Campbell. Let’s all face it the NKAC isn’t actually a thing. It’s just a way to get all the schools of similar size in NKY to play each year.

SK and Ryle both finished 7-1 in the NKAC that year. No tiebreakers.

I’m just stating facts. I could care less about NKAC championships. I think I’ve already expressed my feelings on the importance of the NKAC. The NKAC is nothing more than a showcase of exhibition games that mean absolutely nothing. If you wouldn’t have brought up the fact that Campbell beating SK was for the NKAC championship than I would have never known.

It seems to only generate excitement in Camel Country.

I could be wrong but I believe SK won or shared the NKAC crown from 12-13 thru 16-17. I’ll let you do the math. I would say that’s pretty good. By the way looks like they also won a couple regional ships in that same time frame. Since the the NKAC is so tough @Buttermaker, would you say this type of domination is a good accomplishment?

Campbell County won the NKAC this year!

Your perception is spot on too!!! I was being sarcastic with my post due to a disagreement I had in a previous post. See below. From @Blueto Pretty sure SK pays dues every year, and attends all NKAC meetings, and Coach Stowers attends the banquet. So, that leads me to believe it means something to SK.

I honestly didn’t see a punch. My post was sarcasm. If it’s the play I’m thinking about Morgan Stamper and the Barth girl had been battling all game and to say a punch was thrown is a huge stretch. -

Three officials and not one of them seen it. Should we investigate the highlands coaching staff for not placing Barth in the concussion protocol? -
I’ll take a trip to the Sweet 16 any day versus winning the NIT.

That miss was the end for the Cats. Doesn’t help going 50% at the line. Also Washington and SGA missed crucial gimmes towards the end. Also seems like the Cats had three or four straight possessions up 55-51 and failed to extend the lead.

@Blueto do you have a list of past winners? Winning the NKAC is a huge accomplishment. Surprised no ones seems interested in responding to this topic.

I agree, the scoring was balanced. Although I feel like the OP was referencing an offensive problem. Defensively as a whole SK isn’t bad, but there are certain girls that seem lost and out of position at times. The offense seems to be clicking, all the girls are putting up numbers night in and night out. But there’s more to basketball than putting up numbers on offense. -

Nothing more than cooperating. Stowers is a stand up guy and I think there may even be a fine for schools that don’t pay their dues. It would also be a very bad look for a school not to participate. The NKAC doesn’t mean anything and only gets talked about when it names the all star teams. Most people couldn't tell you whose in the NKAC let alone care who wins it. There is no NKAC website, it’s main purpose seems to be for scheduling more than anything. Only a select number of schools circle conference games on their schedule and pretend that they mean something. -

Honestly no it doesn’t. Setting yourself up with the #1 seed in the district should be your goal during the season. Once that happens win your first district game and advance to the region. From there win the region crown and try to win the Sweet 16. Regular season non district games are nothing more than tune ups. This mentality is maginified when your playing without your division 1 point guard, each game is an opportunity to get better. You can lose and still be making progress. I doubt the SK staff lost any sleep over regular season losses to Ryle, Campbell, Male, Scott County etc... I can’t help but remember when the Louisville Central Boys team lost their first 8 exhibition games of the season and went onto advance to the 2009 Sweet 16 Championship game. They finished that season with a record of 13-16 but what they did do is finish 1st in their district that year and Won their first district tournament game. They lost in the district championship game but still advanced to region and the rest was history. -

Oooh! Does the NKAC Championship help determine district seeding?? The only teams on SK’s regular season schedule that mean anything are Williamstown, Walton and Grant. Will Campbell be hanging a banner for winning the NKAC ship? -

Just another exhibition game that doesn’t mean anything. -

From what I understand Ally is looking for a quality education and not a future in the WNBA. It was her wishes to return to the hardwood, she’s been medically cleared so what does she have to lose? Her biggest hurdle is mental not physical. -

No offense but it wouldn’t take much to knock Mitchell to the ground. Mitchell while a nice player has no business hanging down low with a girl as strong and physical as Stamper. I will say either Cooper has the toughest girls in the state or Stamper was wearing invisible elbow pads. I’d think if girls were taking bows to the head from a girl as strong as Stamper that they’d either be crying, bleeding or both. From what I can recall none of the Cooper girls showed any such signs. All the crying was coming from the fans on the Cooper sidelines. I guess when your offense is to let Held (who imo is the best player in the state) jack up 20+ shots a game your not going to draw many fouls. Onto the next topic. This was my first time seeing the SK girls this season after seeing them a lot the last few years. My impressions are that Harmeyer has one of the prettiest jump shots I have ever seen. Stamper is a bruiser that understands how to get position down low and how to use the different angles of the backboard to finish. It will be fun to follow her for two more years. Jones is just a ballplayer, at her size she’s always finding new ways to surprise me. It will also be fun to follow her for two more years. Niece isn’t close to 100% but it’s more of a mental thing, she’s still a calming influence on the court and makes the right basketball play everytime she gets the ball. The game comes so easy to her. And lastly Buckner, after seeing her as a sophomore and junior I loved her athleticism and potential. During the Cooper game she looked like a shell of her former self, I was really expecting more. She seemed uninterested. I was excited to watch her play now that Meier has moved onto college, I thought she’d be filling the stat sheet. Maybe not so much with points but definitely with rebounds, blocked shots and steals. If she can play like I’ve seen her in the past this SK team now that they have everyone healthy could make a strong postseason run. 4 of their 5 starters are really strong, it would be nice to see Buckner get going and make that 5 out of 5. -

A lot of the foul discrepancy can be contributed to SK going inside to Stamper and Cooper having no answer. Cooper never went into the post if my memory serves me correctly. SK was definitely the aggressor from the opening tip. -
There’s no doubt UK played like complete poop in the second half but I can’t help but wonder how the entire game would’ve been different had A&M not banked in those two 3-pointers. Not only was that six points but both shots were well defended and I couldn’t help but just shake my head. UK plays the worst man to man defense that I have ever seen but that was also one of those games where it felt like A&M couldn’t miss. I was having flash backs of the Ohio St game last season when those guys couldn’t miss a shot. UK showed a little grit towards the end similar to what they did versus WVU. Seems like UK plays better when they press and the game gets sped up. A&M could be a final four team and that was a hostile environment. Take away the two banked in 3-pointers and make 4-5 more of those free throws and that game was closer to being close than people realize. I still think they UK can fix this. They are going to need to get into the tournament though to have a chance to prove it. They need to beat one or two teams that they aren’t supposed to or win the conference tourney. If they get in to the tournament I look for them to make a run. Side note I’d like to see a lineup of Green, Diallo, SGA, Knox and Vanderbilt.

NBA Trade Deadline
nkufan23 replied to UKMustangFan's topic in National Basketball Association (NBA)
Utah will apparently release Derrick Rose. Could the Cavs add him back? Would they even want to add him back? They have two open roster spots due to today’s trades.
