Scoreboard was delivered today; however, installation not scheduled for 10 days or so. Supporting steel structure still needs to be delivered.

FYI...the storm and sewer lines project has been going on for about a month now from an investigation, design, and approval standpoint. When the sinkhole was first discovered, a contractor, Schmidt Plumbing, was brought onsite to determine the problem, including using cameras to go back into the pipes. Once the problem was determined, plans and designs were then developed to fix the issue by the architects and engineers who work with the school district. With the new design, the drain pipes will no longer run under the football field. The Sanitation District has reviewed and approved the plans. The school board opened bids on Friday, 7/26, from 3 different firms and awarded the lowest bid to Schmidt Plumbing to have the work completed by August 15. Hopefully, no problems are encountered. Lots of work going on behind the school building this summer...some planned...some not. That doesn't even touch all of the work going on inside the building as well!

New press box will actually have 5 window bays instead of the current 3. 2 bays for team coaches, 2 bays for radio crews, and 1 bay for the scoreboard/announcer. New scoreboard not scheduled to be delivered until the end of July.

Not comparing apples to apples here. Fort Thomas lists the salary for how many positions they pay (e.g., 5 assistant football coaches). For Kenton County, it only lists what the salary is for each position. What you are missing is the number of coaches that are paid at that position. For example, Dixie on their website lists 1 Head Coach, 3 Assistant Coaches, 4 Coaches, 1 Strength Coach, 1 Defensive Line Coach, 1 Frosh Head Coach, and 1 Frosh Coach. Not exactly sure at what salary level the assistants are getting paid, but that would add up to much more than $28K. There are also several coaches at Highlands, and probably at other schools as well, that do it completely as a volunteer. For the love of the game, the kids, and the program. BTW...any public school in Kentucky, by law, has to make their salary schedules, including extra service pay, part of the public record.

Slightly different than the weather we experienced in round 1 last year when the temperature on the turf was over 100!

Outstanding effort by SO Mitch Jones with a complete game 2 hitter with 6 Ks and 1 BB. Pitched ahead and only went to a 3 ball count against one Colonel. Congrats to the Birds! My understanding is it is the first time since 1997.

Final from Highland Park W-SO Mitchell Jones, L-Kincaid (Tiberi started for the Indians) JR Evan Allen with a double and a 2 run home run over the right center wall. SRs Hector Molina and Quentin Murray both went 2-3 with 2 RBIs. SO Mitch Jones pitched a solid 5 innings after nearly getting decapitated by a line drive by Tiberi up the middle. SR Jake Liggett came in to pitch 2 shut down innings to finish the game. Tiberi went 2-4 with a single, a double and 2 RBIs.

Not a fan of any super / select class at all. Could be lots of politics involved in how teams would be selected and who would be the group to determine the selection. However, for those that think Kentucky should make a change, look to how Indiana is now going to implement their two year "tournament success" model for baseball, basketball, football, soccer, softball, and volleyball. A team gets assigned a score based on how far you go into the playoffs (1pt sectional, 2pts regional, 3pts semis, and 4 pts state). Max points assigned in a year is 4. If over two years, you accumulate 6 or more points, you move up a class for the next two year cycle. This is to start with the 2013-2014 school year. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in Indiana and how some of those perennial state champs are affected.

No OT, just a lot of offense today. Came down to the wire with CCH driving but turned over on downs with about 22 secs left in game. Drew Houliston was back at QB for the Birds this week after 3 weeks off. Nice to have #10 back out on the field.

Definitely a key play in the game and a stud throw by Murray. BTW, HHS stranded 4. Dixie stranded 12. The Birds have been a lot of fun to watch over the last few weeks! Let's keep playing ball, boys!

Congrats to Pat and his entire family!! It has been so much fun watching him play football at Highlands, but even more impressive, has been to watch him serve as a role model for his teammates and the young boys of this community. Speaking of neutral site games, what ever happened to some of the early season Bowl type games? I remember Highlands played Trinity one time at Mt. Sterling in a bowl there. Then there used to be the St. Luke's Champions Bowl in NKy. Maybe they are still going on and I am just not as familiar since Highlands isn't playing in them. Did corporate sponsorship money dry up? Or have they been replaced by some of the larger, national coverage type of games, like the Herbstreit games? I appreciate all of the passionate fans discussion on this topic, but again, I think the only thing that truly matters to both sets of coaches and players is the State Title both teams won yesterday! To this Highlands fan, you can put us #2, #3, or #10, the excitement comes from watching those boys hoisting the trophy above their heads last night! They didn't care where they were ranked...they were State Champions again! Congrats to both teams! Maybe something can be worked out for next year, and only then, can we have a "final and definitive word" on this topic.
