  1. How many penalty yards does Highlands have this game? Unbelievable.
  2. I understand the HHS Broadcasting team is not going as no room in AC press box. Anyone know if AC has at least a radio feed? Thanks!
  3. The chant didn’t start until the 7th as the SO fans were trying to get in Rom’s head. Birds fans simply responded with “MLB”. IMHO (and many in the stands as well), umps’s zone got a little tight there on the last few batters. However, he gets to make the calls. Rom simply gave the glove wave to the dugout to say “I got this” and finished it out. Maturity and senior leadership right there to shake it off and finish the game. Rom had 10Ks, 21 1st pitch strikes against the 29 batters he faced, and retired 15 in a row at one point. I believe he only gave up 1 hit after the 1st inning. Went the distance to allow Coach B. to have the rest of his staff available for tomorrow’s 6pm game. Clearly #notoverrated Clutch RBI hits from Kavanagh and Hennigan. A couple of strong defensive plays from both Kavanagh and Bridewell.
  4. Great quote from Luke Hennigan in today's Enquirer: "It means everything to us. Three of us started that regional final (in 2012) our freshman year, and this will be our third. We're definitely hungry for our first championship. We've seen (Highlands baseball) go from 6-30 to 30-6, so we're just ready to bring it home." What a change in HHS baseball from 2012! Good luck to Jeremy and the boys! Go Birds!
  5. Congrats to #44 ! Well deserved! Now bring home that title tonight! Go Birds!
  6. Pop fly in no mans land. Drops. Dixie scores 2 and wins 2-1
  7. 2 outs. 8 and 9 batter on 1st and 2nd. Top of order for Dixie.
  8. Bottom of 7. Last chance for Dixie.
  9. Boone up 1-0 in the 7th. Ganns still on the mound.
  10. I operate the iScorecast for the Birds. Once the game is over, I remove the game from online access. You will have to catch one in action live sometime. For our fans that can't make it out to the game, it is a cool way to watch the game play out pitch by pitch. Works great for dads or moms that are traveling out of town for work to keep up with the action. That Customer ID works for all of our games.
  11. Kevin Nieporte is the BEST! 8th Grade Science teacher who is a long time dedicated HHS fan and does an amazing job on the mic! Look forward to his announcing every spring!
  12. Birds come from behind scoring 4 in the 5th. Strong starts from Jones and Dunn. According to PBRKentucky, Dunn throwing 86-89 FB, and Jones around 82-83. Both go 4 innings. Dunn with 8 Ks. Vermeil comes in for Birds to get the W. Wise takes the L for the Jags. Ramey with a clutch bases loaded 2 RBI double during the Birds 5th. Birds start the season 2-0.
  13. Nice win to start the season for the Birds at Boone. Starting pitcher, Lou Bunning, pitches 3.67 innings for the win. Joseph Martin comes in to hold for 2.33 innings. Joey Cochran comes in the 7th to close out the game with the save.
  14. The people picking them in a landslide are not the players and coaches, who as 75center said, are probably addressing that focus right now. I agree that with the WC and LC games, the coaches and players got a little too comfortable with their lead; however, I think it is a bit of a stretch to say this team loses focus when you look overall at a 13-1 season, including 2 games over CovCath, tough games against John Hardin and Paducah Tilghman, and a loss to Elder where they continued to battle when down. They didn't lose focus in those games and I doubt that they will next week either.
  15. Quote from Enquirer: Dale - "We wanted to get a running clock because it's such a big advantage. When we got the running clock, I think we relaxed, and you can't relax against them." The coaches, boys, and fans got too comfortable at halftime with a 42-7 lead. Plans for Bowling Green were already being made by all involved. We let up on the gas. A couple of bad series by HHS, some great passing by LC, an LC recovered onside kick...then, panic begins to set in, and you can't play in panic mode against a team like LC. Kudos to LC players and coaches for never giving up last night. Running clock was our friend and in a way, our enemy last night. It couldn't tick off fast enough...but yet, it also, let us get too relaxed way too early. Regardless, the Birds are heading to Bowling Green. Let's get Seven on the Seventh!
  16. Brackets posted on KHSAA: 2013 Kentucky High School Boys Soccer
  17. Chris Garbig with the lone score this evening. Birds move on to face the winner of Brossart/Dunbar.
  18. Does anyone know if Paducah Tilghman has a radio broadcast?
  19. Skinner's article from Enquirer today: http://nky.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=%2FAB%2F20130914%2FSPT0302%2F309140098%2F
  20. The block by #2 from John Hardin was completely legal. However, the taunting after the play when a kid is down is what had the HHS fans upset. It is football. Legal, clean blocks are part of the game; however, taunting as if you are in the NFL does not have a place in high school football and does not show good sportsmanship in my book. Did the game get chippy after that? Yes from both teams. This block came shortly after an HHS player was on the ground for awhile with what appeared to be a broken arm or wrist. Watching a mom sit in the stands waiting to see her son move is unnerving. Hoping all is ok with that young man and we see him on the field very soon. BTW...we Highlands fans do know that this is Dale's 300th win; however, we also know that for Dale it is not about him...it is about these boys and this TEAM, not the individual glory.
  21. Very sad statement on our print media. The page header said Kentucky High School Sports and was mostly filled with Ohio scores! Where did the days of all the scores printed across the top of front page of the paper go? Still miss the Ky Post!
  22. OSD, the article failed to describe why the Education Foundation provided a grant for the scoreboard. The Fort Thomas Education Foundation (FTEF) played a critical role in the renovation of Highlands High School. As part of that effort, they helped fund the facilities for the Broadcast Journalism program, including a TV studio, production room, and cameras. This scoreboard was not only purchased for athletics but as a major enhancement to that Broadcast program. The FTEF provided a grant to the program which help offset the costs of the scoreboard. They did not pay for the whole thing. Also, in return for their support, they receive the exclusive advertising rights to the signage and video ads on the scoreboard. The monies that they raise come back and help the students in all 5 of our schools from elementary to high. For today's game, the teacher and the students will be operating the scoreboard and cameras. Eventually, they can learn to run a stats ticker along the bottom of the scoreboard ESPN-style or they can create commercials for the Game Day sponsors. The announcer is now one of our high school students. This was more than a purchase for football, but it was to enhance the learning experience of our students as well. This is real-world experience that these kids will be getting and can apply in college or in a paying job after graduation. I donate to the Foundation and am very proud of the grants they have made to our school system!
  23. Almost Finished...one more piece to place on top. Electric hook up on Tuesday. National TV and a Jumbotron...what a way to open the season! GO BIRDS! BEAT UC!
  24. A view from the top of the new press box. Drilling will begin for the scoreboard's structural steel today. Sweep has the information correct on the Fieldhouse. Plans are in the works to develop the Valley, including a practice field behind the fieldhouse building and parking spaces. However, he may be a little optimistic on timing.
