  1. Would Frank Parks be interested? He was a Kenny Turner assistant!
  2. According to people in Lawrence Co., coach Salmons is heading to a big school in Huntington W.V. Who gets this job now?
  3. Well if he wants to be here for at least 5 or 6 years then by all means bring him to Madison Southern. Southern is a school full of country boys who have never played ball or have little experience playing sports in general. If he can come in here and change the mentality of the kids then parents and others will come around. A good coach helps change kids first and hopefully the wins will follow. Pep these kids up, make them feel like they are really a part of something and good things will happen. If Craig Yeast or anybody else can do it then I really don't care who the coach is!
  4. Southern fan, The Pulaski Coach was contacted and declined. Paul Rains and David Hensley did apply for the job but never got an interview and both were interested. That came from three coaches who are in the building right now. Salmons has been offered the job that came from the booster president. Craig Yeast and Fred Hoskins were in the building last week and that came from the booster president and the coaches in the building who talked to them, I spoke to all of them. So, Southern fan, again all of this is true information.
  5. Any word on the coaching search, I'm interested to see who will get this job.
  6. Southern fan, As a matter of fact it is true. I did not say he was the coach, I said the job was offered to him and that he hasn't accepted or declined. You are right that several coaches are still in the running because Coach Salmons hasn't made up his mind. Craig Yeast, Fred Hoskins, two other coaches were in the building last week, and I was told by the boosters that one maybe two more would be talked to today because Salmons has not made his decision. So please do not accuse me of things that I know are true. Mr. Gilliam himself has not told me a thing, but several boosters including the booster president have told me certain things. I have not posted anything that was false unless the information I have been given is false, and I trust those people who told me this. If you know something we don't by all means share it. Part of the problem is that people think Southern is the Dallas Cowboys and that outside of Madison Co. people could care less about what is going on here. So if somebody shares information what does it hurt that it gets put on this message board? Point being, if I hear something from somebody within the program then I'll take it as true. Again from within the program you are a fan of people who I believe are saying this, so I will post it. As a matter of fact I asked Mr. Gilliam at the basketball game last week and he looked shocked when I asked him about Salmons and he did not confirm or deny that. So that tells me that people within this hiring process are telling things that Mr. Gilliam did not want out in the first place. It's a job hired within the public school system, so people like me who have a son in the school should be allowed to know who is being interviewed. I'm not saying that my two cents should be considered on who to hire, but the candidates for the job can and should be told to parents of posible players just to get an idea and make the community apart of the process something Madison Southern has never done even when I played there almost 20 years ago. If you did not like what I typed on here, then ask GURU for your money back, don't respond on here, and don't get upset when you read somthing that is contrary to what yo uhave heard. Southern fan I like you because you are a Southern fan, but if you know something we all don't then either please post it, or do not respond by calling me a liar. I hope Madison Southern the best, and that my son comes back to play, but I do have a clue what I'm saying and I'll ask David Gilliam again tonight at the basketball game against Woodford Co. GO EAGLES!!!
  7. I was told by the booster president last night that Madison Southern will have a coach by Tuesday at the earliest but looking more like Friday is when it will be announced. Nobody but the principal David Gilliam has any real clue what direction they are going contrary to what is being posted. The job has been offered to Lawerence Co's head coach, but he has niether accepted or declined the job as of Saturday.
  8. He may be, but it could be a conflict of interest. I still feel an alumni who is qualified should be given a shot.
  9. I was told that the coach is more than likely going to be the Principal's husband (which could be a conflict of interest). I have heard that a few alumni from Berea have applied and a few coaches from the area have expressed interest, but that none of them are going to get an interview because it is a done deal...Not sure if this is right but I believe if a qualified alumni wants the job they should get it as opposed to the Principal's husband. I know Charlie Owens wants the job and would be great. Any word...?
  10. Not sure what that means, but I do root for Southern, and I hope my son comes back out next year!
  11. Also am hearing that Coach Salmons from Lawerence Co. has been contacted by Administration from Madison Southern. I hope this hearsay bologna stops. It is getting old fast. I think Southern needs to hire a coach and keep them for 10 years because Southern is a program that will be good for a few years and horrible for a few years. The talent that comes through here is not great. When I played there in the early 90's we were awful, then there was about 5 years where they were good, then horrible, then good again, and now they are back to horrible. Find a coach stick with him, and deal with the ups and downs.
  12. Look at the 44th District with Madison Central, Madison Southern, Berea, and Model. This district does not seed, and because of this Southern and Central many times play in the first round of the district letting Berea or Model play in the region and that is a joke. Seeding should be mandated because sometimes the most deserving teams may not get to go.
  13. I have heard that Coach Hoskins from Bell Co. will be the next coach at Southern. Is there any truth to that, and what do you all know about him?
  14. My son is playing basketball right now but he said Coach Tipton and Coach Busler are running the off-season weight program. Both are young guys who are assests to Southern. As far as the search goes this is the tightest secret since JFK.
  15. This search has really turned into a joke. David Gilliam has somebody in mind but the guy can't make up his mind. Something needs to be done very soon so the coach can put "their" stamp on things.
  16. I heard Brumley is leaving as of January 1, Buttry only teaches Health and drivers ed. Not sure if this is true, but I am hearing David Hensley.
  17. Berea has one and Richmond has one. The thing is Madison Southern coaches and Berea Community coaches have both tried to work with the youth league and many of the coaches won't run what either school has asked. The Berea league has coaches quitting mid-year, the President of the league is under investigation for missing money (she kicked out for the same thing in Richmond), I know for a fact that Madison Southern asked the youth league coaches to come in and go over plays and terminology and only 3 showed up, and attempts to work around their schedules was like peeing in the wind. Most of these coaches just wanted to coach their kid and really didn't know anything. I watched several games last year and saw defenses lined up with 10 on the line of scrimmage and and just send kids. That accomplishes nothing. I know Coach Busler worked with three teams two years ago to show and teach them both 40 and 50 fronts (he gave them bases to work with and a few coverages and blitzes, I have copies of both of them), and turned out both of those teams were in the championship with the winner being Tony McCreath's team (former MSHS player who played in college himself). These youth league coaches are a big part of the problem, and that certainly needs fixed. So gchs, to answer your question Berea and Richmond have seperate leagues. I will say McCreath took and All-Star team and beat teams from Richmond, Laurel Co., Corbin, and a few others, so there is at least one good youth coach, but there needs to be more like him.
  18. Good for Coach Poynter, he was one of the finalist last time and was liked but did not get the job. I have heard that Bourbon Co. has some good kids in the program right now, so if he doesn't apply this time I don't blame him. The main thing Southern is looking for is a coach who can and will help organize the youth league and get football in general in this area on the same page. I hope whoever gets this job understands that there is a lot of work that needs to be done, but that there is some good young talent that is coming up and had a strong freshman class that should win several ballgames in the next few years. I have spoken with the adminstration and I promise you that all this chatter about who has applied and when the job will be filled does not know what they are talking about. I do know that the only people who really know is Mr. Gilliam, Doug Salle the A.D., and Bill Lake who is the booster president. I only know of three people who have applied and that there are a few others, but Mr. Gilliam is not saying much. I hope by mid-January a coach is hired and planning can begin for the 2011 season.
  19. I know a few people on the interview committee from 3 years ago really liked him, so it might be him.
  20. Sportfan, the district Southern will be in "IS NOT" tougher than Bell, Knox, Rock, and McCreary. Even though it is a 6 team district nothing can compare to running into Bell Co. and Knox Central once a year!
  21. This isn't football where you have classes. Yes you make a schedule to win some ballgames, but when you play in the 11th region how do you expect to ever win anything if you play a crap schedule.
  22. Well Southern already played Central to 3 points so I don't think that is really valid. Plus Berea and Model dont really play anybody else from the 11th region other than Southern, Sayre, and each other. So that doesn't really make a lot of sense, but Powell Co. is a good win!
