I hate to hear that they lost a player to an injury. Hopefully, it was nothing serious and he will be back soon.

Basically, I feel they are trying to do away with any of these types of hits in football (peel back blocks). Last year and every other year, that hit would have been celebrated and fine. They said the hit was high and in the defenders helmet. I didn't think it was "targeting" and it really didn't look like it was helmet to helmet. I didn't have the best view due to being behind the home team and couldn't see through their players, so I might be wrong.

Either both teams have really good defensive lines or they both have average offensive lines!

Who do you have in this EKC battle? Both teams seem to be playing well defensively. Will Greenup be able to stop Fleming's offense?

I will add that Fleming has played 2 games and a scrimmage against teams that were supposed to have solid lines. Nicholas County had a huge line that is supposed to be one of the best around. According to the Ledger Independent, the lines was the strong point of this Mason County team. So, for Fleming County to have 3 new starters on their line, I think they have held up pretty well. Also, the defense has only given up 1 score in the 3 games (when they gave Nicholas County the ball on the 4 yard line). If they can continue to improve, I think Fleming County should have a good year.

I will take my last turn with the chalk. Fleming has beaten Mason 3 straight years. 2 years ago Coach Buchanan brought a good Mason County team to Flemingsburg and lost 16-9. History lesson over. Good luck to both teams the rest of the season.

Fleming County beat Mason the last year Coach B was there as well. You do the math. Give kids credit when it is due.

Fleming allowed 0 yards passing, I guess you have to allow a reception for it to register.

Just reading the score doesn't tell the whole story of the Fleming vs Estill County game. Fleming held Estill to under 70 yards rushing and 0 yards passing. Estill got their score off a turnover on Fleming's 2nd play of the game. Fleming had over 350 yards of offense in 3 quarters. The running clock was started in the 3rd quarter and Fleming substituted pretty heavily in the 2nd half.

Fleming returns several players such as Alondra Jackson, Journey Steward, Morgan Fern and Tori Ishmael. They also have some good young talent in Krishani Jackson. I think Coach Rogers will have a solid year in her first season with the Panthers.

I think Mason and Fleming have both improved since last season. Looking forward to hard fought, exciting game next Friday!

Who wins this rivalry match up? Will Fleming County move to 2-0 or will Mason County pull even at 1-1. Fleming County has won the last 2 in this series and I don't remember when they last won 3 in a row over Mason.

You could tell there was some growing pains with Estill and the new offense. They have athletes and a big strong looking line. I think they will be Ok once they get in their rhythm. If Fleming County can limit their turnovers (only 1 last night) and continue to play defense the way they are, they can be dangerous.

After an early turnover returned for a score by Estill, this was all Fleming County. Fleming rattled off 49 unanswered points. Estill couldn't have had many yards of positive offense.

I would assume so. They were on the sidelines but not dressed. Not sure the extent of their injuries. Maybe it was minor but they didn't want to risk further injury in the scrimmage.

How did Estill do in their scrimmage? Fleming played pretty good against Nicholas.

Not a bad showing for Fleming County. 35 points and 333 yards is a pretty good average for only playing 3 quarters. Holding Nicholas to only 77 yards on 33 plays is pretty impressive as well considering they had 1 play for 38 yards!

I didn't get to see the game this morning but will hopefully catch some of the games tonight. My thoughts from yesterday: From the Fleming vs Nicholas game: Score could have been much worse if Fleming County would have wanted it to be. It was obvious Nicholas couldn't cover the deep ball. Fleming could have thrown it deep every play and ran away with it. I guess Fleming was working on their run game some and intermediate passing and rightfully so. They also played several kids. I agree with ATRM in that if Nicholas County backs don't have a hole it doesn't matter who the backs are. I thought their line was going to be their strong point, but left not really impressed. I do think Nicholas will improve as the season goes along, they always do. This was about the same as last year's result from this scrimmage. From the Greenup vs West Carter game: I thought both defenses played really well. I expected Greenup to have a good defense based on what they had returning but was suprised at how well West Carter played. They replace alot from last year. The Kouns kid from West is a stud. They gave up some yards at times but always tightened up in the red zone. Both offenses seemed a little out of sync to me. West replaces a lot in Braden and Walker. They were studs. It might take a little bit, but I think they will be fine. Greenup might be going through some growing pains with a new system. I thought it looked like they had the pieces to be good and I think they will be fine in the long run.

I had heard they have gone back to the spread/option this summer. I guess we will find out this Friday when they scrimmage Dunbar.
