  1. Interviews were held last week. I think they interviewed 3 coaches.
  2. Just like Starns in Fleming County, this discussion about him has ran it's course! Let's get back to discussing actual candidates for the job.
  3. What kind of speed will they have this year? I only saw them play once last year, against Fleming in the grid, and it seems like Fleming scored all their TD's on big plays.
  4. Has nothing to do with his coaching ability. It was his pompous attitude. He was "too good" for Fleming County. He let everyone know he was there for the short term and was leaving when Burns, Steward, Saunders, etc graduated. He wanted no part of and was a deterrent to the middle school and elementary leagues. I wish they would have hired someone to coach that talent that would have stuck around and tried to build off it. Sumoroyal, if you are such a big fan of his, why didn't they hire him in Mason? To hear him tell it, he was the reason for their success!
  5. The Dead Period deals more with athletes. I don't see why they couldn't.
  6. That's a good question. Would there be a loophole where he teaches in another building and he would directly deal with the AD, not his wife?
  7. Heading into the Dead Period, I hear good things about the Panthers so far this summer. Kids are bigger and faster than last year. They have a really big receiving core and secondary (2 at 6'3, 6'2, 6'1 and 6') with speed. They also have a smaller unit that can fly. Lot's of numbers at the skill positions and overall. If they can put together a line, I think they could have a good year.
  8. Funny thing is, even with the success Starns had, it didn't seem anyone hated to see him go. It seems like he has the effect alot of places since he is looking for a job again this summer.
  9. Did he Qb the freshman team last season?
  10. Who will step in at Qb this season? If Fox is healthy, he can be a stud.
  11. Yes, she was the head coach at Bath County. She taught in Fleming County for a few years and I believe, lives in Fleming County.
  12. I have been posting on here from the beginning it wouldn't be an in house hire. Coach Orem had 2 assistants, one was her husband and the other was not going to apply.
  13. New Coach will be introduced soon! Hire has been made, just giving them time to tie up loose ends.
  14. Someone explain to me how a 6 class system "hurts" our kids. I have heard Mr Tackett make the comment that when someone explains that to him, they will consider changing the current system.
  15. So, why does it bother you if they won a championship if they are a "fantastic team"?
  16. Let's poll the 6 State Champions or runner-ups from the past few years and see if they feel like their experience was "watered down" due to 6 classes. Maybe some will turn in their rings. Let's ask the upcoming seniors if they want to shave games off their senior season because "10 games is plenty".
  17. Why does most every team making it matter to you? I never hear people saying every team shouldn't make the district tournament in basketball, baseball, soccer, etc... Should only the top 2 make it in those sports? Only District champions make the regional tournament in those sports? I don't get why everyone gets so upset with football being like other sports.
  18. And how does that help football? Are we trying to get the season over faster for basketball? Every year we drag these posts up and argue over which class system is better (3,4,5,6 etc...). It is obvious that the KHSAA is set on keeping it at 6 classes. Schools are polled and asked their opinions and most seem to favor the current set up. Why do we continue to beat this poor dead horse??????
  19. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 12, 2016 The KHSAA Board of Control conducted its final meeting of the 2015-16 academic year over a two-day session at the Association’s headquarters May 10-11. Among the various items discussed, the Board reviewed the results of a request for proposals distributed in March for a new official ball partnership, as its current agreement with Rawlings will expire at the end of the 2015-16 season. Following its review, the Board approved the Commissioner’s recommendation to accept the three-year proposal from Spalding (2016-17 through 2018-19), pending final signed contracts. The Board completed a comprehensive review of eligibility rules and programs within the Association as required by existing state regulation, focusing on potential Constitution and Bylaw proposals to be voted on by the membership to address undue influence (recruiting) concerns and revisions to the transfer and enrollment rules. Final proposal determinations will be determined at the Board’s July meeting. Also approved was a new mentoring and compliance field visit program for the Association. Assigned staff will be traveling to the member schools to ensure that school representatives are fully aware of the many rules regarding participation in the Association’s activities and review compliance with those rules. The Board also approved a proposal from staff to adjust the football finals schedule beginning in 2016, by playing two games per day on Friday through Sunday. The expansion of the schedule would address a continued effort to minimize lost school time where possible, as well as help alleviate traffic concerns due to the state finals and classes at the host site. In addition, the Board reviewed information regarding ArbiterPay services, a voluntary service for the membership which would allow local schools and districts to escrow the funds for payment of sports officials and pay officials electronically, at a very minimal cost per transaction and without the burden of the current methods. The voluntary program will be phased in as decided by local policy boards, pending written guidelines through the State Auditor’s office. ====================== Original opening post: I just heard that Spalding won the KHSAA bid for footballs, baseballs, softballs and basketballs. How will this play into the ball debate that is ongoing with football coaches? I personally have never seen a Spalding football.
