How good is Southern this year? Didn't they graduate a lot from last year? They did lose a lot from last year. They are still 7-6 with a couple really capable kids in Ponder and Jecks. Out of their 60 shots they took 30 threes! Dangerous if they are hitting.

Exciting high school ball game to watch in Richmond. Madison Southern, is sporting an underrated player in Ponder who hits some extremely difficult shots at the end of the ball game. Outstanding job by Woodford County on the defensive end of the floor, they are really tough in the half court defense with quick guard play and 6'6'' Jay Johnson in the middle turning back shots. Southern battled back from down 8 in the fourth quarter to take the game into overtime off of some careless turnovers by the YellowJackets. In OT The Eagles (?) took a 4-point lead on Ponders big 3's. Before Christmas Woodford would have folded in a game like this. They fought back on a big 3 by Aaron Stover and a followed shot by Addison Hollin to take the lead with 8 seconds to go. The defensive work on the last 8 seconds was impressive by Woodford to win the game. Good win Jackets!

What happened to MC?

Jay Johnson 6'6'' Junior from Woodford County deserves to be in the conversation. Averaging around 20 pts., 13 rebs, and 5 blocks per game. The Freshman from Lafayette is a stud too...I believe he is top 10 in the nation for his class.

This may be a shocker to some but for those who have seen Frankfort this is no surprise. The Frankfort squad is 2-0 vs. Franklin in their district rivalry.

Final from the Red River Classic @ Powell County. Woodford started slow and only led by 4 at half. Woodford finally finished a game the way they should, they showed good poise at the end of the game. Johnson 20 points 11 rebounds for Woodford Greenwell 16 points 8 rebounds for Woodford

At times the Yellow Jackets looked to have things figured out. Jumped out 22-6 in the first quarter. The thing about inexperience is that you let teams back in the game when you should put them away, this is exactly what happened as the game only ended up 7. Thought Johnson and Greenwell for Woodford were VERY tough. If Woodford can learn to take care of the ball they can be dangerous, if not, they will have a quick exit come post season play. Credit East Carter for battling the entire game!

Great win for Coach Tony Wise and the Frankfort squad. Coach Wise has done a great job overachieving with the small number of students in Frankfort Independant. If this team is hitting shots, they are very dangerous.

Not the first game of the season

Woodford County struggled at the free throw line going 15-28 and I'm going to estimate they missed 3 front ends of the bonus in the 4th quarter and had 19 turnovers. The Yellow Jackets need to get in the gym and practice their free-throws and taking care of the ball. Had they made those the game would have been out of reach. Credit Franklin County and in particular Meyer on his performance...he was, as Coach Cal would say, a buzzsaw! I saw Woodford County put a lot of fear in Franklin County's fanbase, coaching staff, and on-lookers that hasn't been there in recent years. While I'm sure Hundley wanted to win this one he knows that the Yellow Jackets can beat Franklin and I'm sure he would rather have one in March. I agree with Plato, the Flyers streak comes to an end this year!

Big district game early in the season. I've heard about some heated battles between these two teams. Franklin beat Woodford all 3 meetings last season, including the district finals. What are your thoughts?

Yellow Jackets have already tallied 3 wins this season which makes them 1/4 of the way to their total from last season. They will have a tough stretch with Franklin, Tates Creek, and Fern Creek coming up. Time to see what they are made of!

Paris is not the typical Paris team. I hope the Indians don't go into this game with the mindset that this is the "Same" Paris team. Coach Griesser will get his guys ready and I don't think this will be the case.

Great game. Back and forth the entire forth quarter. Frankforts guards finally cooled off after hitting 8 or 9 threee pointers leading up to the final couple of minutes. Woodford County pulled it out on the shoulders of Junior Jay Johnson who lead the Yellow Jackets with 22 points, 17 rebounds, and 11 blocks. This is his second triple double of the season. Woodford County is now 2-0 and Frankfort is 1-2.

The style of play that West Jessamine has is SOLID...kids may come and go but the program seems to remain the same solid TEAM program they have always had. Agreed Polson makes that team better but you are mistaken if you think one player makes a program. I'm sure if you coached you would think more along these lines...

Watch them play and tell me they're not solid. Didn't say they were great, nor did I say they would win the 12th, but solid. Which means they will be in every game and shouldn't get blown out against anyone. Solid. To say they aren't solid is ludicrous.

Couple of things... 1. Frankfort is way better then they usually are...agreed. Franklin, won the district last season so until they are uprooted then they are the favorite. 2. Paris also is very, very improved (a lot of good young coaches with enthusiasm helps)...agreed. However, to say they are in front of Montgomery County who returned the majority of their scoring from last season is tough to say. Clark, Montgomery, Paris, Bourbon is the order I have.

Heard the Montgomery County team was still sitting high on the hog after a successful last season. Humble pie was served up by way of Covington Catholic on Tuesday. I say Coach Griesser has gotten some egos in check this week with practice and they will rebound. I say Montgomery by 20+ at home.

Aaron Jacobs will turn some heads this year!

West Jessamine is the same solid team they always have. They have players that have the confidence and experience of having been to Rupp Arena. Really looking forward to watching this game! I think this one will be a tightly contested game...haven't seen Franklin so can't speculate on the score.

What are some thoughts on this game?

Coach Hicks always starts the season off with a tough game to guage the playing level of his team. Even though they loss it looks like they never gave up and battled back with a 32-204th quarter. This will be a good measuring stick for the Scott County Cardinals who, by in large, have players without much varsity experience.

I have no clue how this event made any money. I attended the final 3 games of the session and there may have been 50 people in the gym (22 of those were the Pendleton County bench). When I can hear every word the coach says in the huddle at Rupp Arena something is wrong

Was able to sneak away from the honey do list to watch a battle in the 11th region yesterday that played host to Woodford County and Bryan Station. Game came down to the last possesion, was a back and forth the entire game. Both teams played with great effort, as expected. Station snuck out a win by two on a couple mental mistakes by Woodford. Not sure of the players actual names or numbers as they had their practice jerseys on but Bryan Station had two very capable forwards that made some tough shots. Woodford had a post player who had at least 20 pts and 10 rebounds. Woodford had a pretty good supporting cast from what I saw, good guard play that just needs some experience.
