Shelby Valley will be a top 5 team in the state. I do not know much about their players the return, but their defensive style is what will win games. They might be one of the best teams in the state in making the transition from full court press to half court press. Also Justice and the other guards do a great job of defending on the top of that 2-3 half court zone they run. SV should end up at Rupp, but that doesnt always happen.

Finally lives up to the hype? They are two years out of a state title. The year after the state title they were not favored at all, and last year they lost on last second free throws when the team leader was lost the day before. If Phares was lost in the game before, you see SC at Rupp last year. Its hard to change things in 1 day. I wouldn't say that they will run over teams this year, but they will be favored in almost every game this year. Everyone in the 11th does not like SC and they always get everyones best game.

If we are going to talk about a coach that takes programs that never really had won before they were there then we have to look at Johnny Poynter who is currently at Bourbon County. He has taken two programs that did not win much before he was there in Pike Central and Trimble County. I am completely sure about Pike Central, but he is the winnest coach in Trimble Counties ftball history. He has the only play off win and its either being ranked top 10 or finishing ranked top 10 at the school. He is currently 2-2 but when he took that program over they program had barely over 3 games in the past few years. I know he may not have 100 wins as a head coach yet, but he must go into consideration when you look at newer coaches. Not to mention he has a ring from bourbon as a assistant.

The long bus trip really effects the kids, Henry rallies but I see OC winning a close one.

Bourbon by atleast 21 and Coach P will extended his winning streak over Owen to 4. Owen isn't big enough to handle Bourbon on the line.

A user friendly schedule? Henry played Shelby Valley last year, Gallatin 4 times, Owen 4 times and other schools that were in their regional tournaments last year. Cornerstone Christian is a very underrated team as well, people over look them. They have a lot of talent for a extremely small private school. If they were still in the All "A" they would be the favorite to win. As a coach you have to put your team in situations and games that challenge them, but also build some confidence. You also try to schedule about 7-10 for sure wins and playing in the NCKC takes up 14 games of a year schedule so that leaves hardly room for those games. Also they played in the All "A" last year so that took games away as well. I believe in the past they have played teams like South Oldham and Anderson county ( who Holland had to drop last year because of the amount of games) .Not to mention the NCKC had two teams in the final four of the region last year and the year before it lost the region by 1 point. Just because a school is a single "A" school does not mean that the school is a cupcake. Also the district Henry plays in is an extremely tough district to win. Will Oldham struggle next year? Who knows, they have talent and some experience so it will be up in the air but Holland will do well at Oldham. Holland was the best person to fill the shoes of Gary Forest.

What this really comes down to is that one of North Oldham's coaches was Hick's AAU coach. Was Hicks lured to North, prolly so but what needs to happen is the KHSAA needs to do something about paid High School coaches coaching AAU teams. I have no problem with these coaches doing the High School AAU tournament, but unless there is a rule or guideline put into place not letting paid coaches coach these all-star AAU teams. Let the parent or guy at the corner store that think they know it all coach these teams. How many times are these kids told to come to another school? I would say that there are countless times where these kids are sitting in hotel rooms with coaches on trips and the coaches are telling these kids to come to their school. So we can all say what we want about the kids transfering before their freshman year, but at this time I do not think there have been any rules broken with the transfer. I hope for the kids shake that he is allowed to play and does not miss out on a year of basketball.

Looks like Trimble has fallen apart after the big opening weekend win over Atheron (SP). Anyone have any ideas what has happened?:confused:

In Football it would good for the two schools, but Basketball is a different story. I think that Paris will come around in Basketball here in the next couple of years and pass Bourbon again.

Nice Post. They do have similar talent, but just cannot win the big game and get the job done.

Don't be surprised if Trimble County upsets a few teams this year. They have everyone back from last year. I know they only won 1 game last year, but they also played a lot of young players last year and now some of those young players have a year of playing Varisty ball. Teams will have to prepare more for them this year compared to last year. Does this mean they will win the district or region, no but they will sneak up on a few teams.

If you are not at Bourbon's practice, how would you know if they practice it or not. Bedford is a long way from Paris. It does matter how many QB's are on the field because the more talent you have on the field the more a defense has to prepare for to stop during that game.

Bourbon does have a passing game, infact they have two Qbs on the field. They can pass from mult. positions in the backfield. Just because they haven't had to use the passing game yet, does not mean they don't have one. How is TC's passing game this year? Is the best QB even getting the most snaps?

Holland had to play Williamstown as they were in the conference that Henry County play in. Here is my problem with North, dont crown them until they win a big game. They have more than enough talent to do it, but it always seems like they can't win a big game.

Are they still playing every year? I had heard that Shelby might have dropped them this year?

I really do not know why everyone thinks north is really that great? They have some nice players, but they cannot win big games. Sure they do win 20 games a year, but when they play good teams they usually lose. Oldham may not win the district this year, but Holland has more kids out for basketball than have been out in a while at Oldham County. Looks to be a interesting year in the 29th.

The A-11 is allowed in 4th down situations and if it is modified it can be used. Not sure of what has to be modified for it to be considered legal, but look for Poynter to use a modified form of it.

A-11 back for this one? You have got to think that Poytner will use it sometime in this game! Barnes is the ideal QB for this type of offense!

It looks like the new coach is working off somethings that Poynter started last year with modified offenses, spreading the field and letting the QB have more time to make a decision. I know it's no A-11 and last Saturday was a "pre-season" game, but looks like the new coach is off to a good start. Trimble has some talent in the skilled positions, but who is playing QB for them this year? They graduated last year's QB.

Who is starting at OB for the raiders this upcoming season? How did the Raiders look last night at Paris? Good to see the numbers are High, how many of those players are experienced?

If this is really about academics and not basketball, then why didn't his sister transfer either? She is in the 10th grade at Shelby County. Its about basketball which is ok, but if it was really about academics im sure his sister would have went to North as well.

Will he be playing basketball at TC?

It's great to see that the student has interests in Duke for his College career, but him transfering before he starts High School most likely has more to do with Basketball than it does the school. Many kids in KY do this every year before the enter high school and it is always about sports. Parents are always looking to get their kids to a better program that their child fits in. Hicks going to North Oldham is no different. Which is odd, because the other two Oldham schools have more basketball potential after next year and being that all of the schools are in the Oldham district I would venture to say that they are near the same standards in the classroom as North Oldham. Anyways, the father should have not said a word to the newspapers because we say what happened last year when Dakota Euton's father spoke to reporters about his son's future, he was ruled ineligible and had to go through the entire appeal process. I am not sure if this situation has come to that at this time, but looks like it might be headed that way. Anyways, the Oldham district does have good schools and very good varisty sports and like mentioned in an earlier post about Shelby county schools, there will probably be kids from within the 29th district that transfer within the next year or two.
