What does Shelby Valley need to do to improve in 2009/2010? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

IMO they will still be the top team in the 15th region and barring a major injury to the team they'll roll through it. Losing the defensive abilities of Logan Bryant is never good but the team will rebound and having Elisha Justice running the team means Shelby Valley will be in good hands.

Shelby Valley will be very good this year. They are probably a top 5 team in the state I believe.

I watched them play Perry Central this summer in pikeville and they look really good and PCC them to within 2pts. and lead the whole game until the Salyers kid got hit in the head and got a concussion and had to go to the hospital, but SV didn't misss a beat.

Haven't seen their schedule but, if they are going to be in the mix at Rupp, they have to play as many quality teams outside their region as possible as I just don't think they will be challenged in the 15th.

 

Can't replace live game action when you are talking about facing the size and athleticism of the Lou, Lex and NKy teams and they just don't see that too often in the 15th!

 

I agree they will be ranked in the top 5 but that won't count for much in the end if they haven't played anybody to get that lofty ranking.

Shelby Valley hasn't been afraid of scheduling tougher talent, they travel to different tournaments in New York, and Florida. They know what it takes to advance in the state tournament.

IMO this SV team won't be nearly as good as last year's team. They lack the size and depth to repeat what they did last year. The will still be capable on any given night to play with most teams in the state, but I don't think they will be as consistent. They may actually have a better offensive team, but rebounding and defense will a step below where they were last year.

That was talked about in another thread. He is going to be back at Hazard.

Shelby Valley will be one of the best 5 teams in the state. Shelby Valley has great size and maybe the best PG in the state. If I had one lock for a trip to Rupp next season it would be Shelby Valley. Valley will be that much better than anyone else in the 15th. I still believe Scott and Holmes have to much talent, but if SV gets a good draw they could make some noise in Rupp.

I agree that they have one of the best PG's in the state, but I don't agree that they have great size. They lost two major players from last year's team in 6'10" Deven Adams and 6'7" Curby Tackett. This year they will probably start 5'10" and 6'1" guards, 6'5" and 6'6" forwards, and a 6'3" center. That is decent size for the mountains, but not so much statewide.

Shelby Valley will be a top 5 team in the state. I do not know much about their players the return, but their defensive style is what will win games. They might be one of the best teams in the state in making the transition from full court press to half court press. Also Justice and the other guards do a great job of defending on the top of that 2-3 half court zone they run. SV should end up at Rupp, but that doesnt always happen.

As long as Mr. Justice is running the show at Valley, I don't think anyone can handle them in the 15th. He is as smooth as I have seen in this area in a long time.
