Me too 5 route, I was the OC at Doss and I for one was glad to let our players see what happened when you overlook a playoff opponent. In the next game of that session we played Holy Cross and took care of business after learning the lesson from Butler. That day was crazy at the old Farigrounds. It started out warm, about 75, at 3:30 when the game started. Then a cold front blew through during the 2nd half of the Butler/Iroquois game, suspending (for lightning) it for more than an hour. Finally we started our game about 9:15 PM and by the time the game was over, it was lightly snowing. Male and Central played the tail end of the triple-header that ended about 1 AM.

Our field at Western has taken a beating, playing three straight home games in a constant whistle to whistle rain. There's very little grass left between the 30's, meaning if we last very long in the playoffs (we'll host the 1st 3 games) the first time it gets real cold that dirt will be like playing on concrete. Fortunately we play at Ballard tomorrow.

Just in the biggest class (4-A from 95 to 06 and 6-A from 07 & 08) it's only NOT happened in 2004. North Bullitt at (1)Western Fairdale at (2)Bullitt East Breckinridge Co. at (1)Marion Co. Larue Co. at (2)Valley Western rolled to 20, 21 and 43 point wins over district rivals Fairdale, Valley and Breckinridge Co. respectively. Marion Co. breezed past Larue Co. and North Bullitt by identical scores of 33-7. The Knights did struggle to beat Bullitt East 18-14 to decide the top seed in district 4. Western has no doubt played the toughest non-district schedule of the 8 teams, dropping close games to 6-A teams Male, Butler and Bryan Station. This week the Warriors wind the regular season up at Ballard. Interesting match up between Fairdale and Bullitt East as Bulldog head coach Miller is 3-0 vs. Bullitt East and 2-0 vs. current Charger head man Dave Preston. Will the “chalk” pan out and Marion Co. travel to Western for a spot in the 4-A “Final 4”? Or will the high-powered passing game of Fairdale, or the tough running games of Bullitt East or Valley, or some other dark horse, crash the party?

The discipline of Coach Scroggins is the main reason Central is going for a 3-peat. Playing in 3-A doesn't hurt, but just ask some of the teams they play in the regular season if they can compete in a higher class. Central had better, more talented teams than the last 2 State Champs in 1994, 1995 and 2006. But those teams fell victim to their own undisciplined play in the post-season. This year, much more than the past two seasons, Coach Scroggins has sat out (star) players for missing practice, getting in trouble at school or other reasons. Simply put, this team doesn't seem to be the same hungry, focused team that won the last 2 titles. Having said this, I still don’t think there is anyone in the West half of the state that will keep Central out of the State Championship Game, and they might only receive a moderate challenge from Mason Co., Belfry, Breathitt or Somerset for the title. Central themselves will be the biggest roadblock to a third straight title. Playing (and winning) with young players will make Central that more tough next season and down the road. They already pulled some of the top freshmen this year in Louisville and their success in basketball (back to back sweet 16 appearances) just make the school more attractive to middle school student-athletes. Coach Scroggins is quickly running out of fingers to wear championship rings on.

Unhappy with his team's defensive performance in the first half of the season, Coach Redman put several offensive starters on defense. Looks like it was a good move.

They said the same thing last week for the Louisville Metro, only to have it rain the entire game, at least at Western High.

Manual will likely be in a foul mood this week. Butler may have already won it's last game this season. Manual 34 Butler 13

DeSales used Iroquois' field for many years (it's only a few blocks from DeSales) but moved to Manual Stadium I believe 2 seasons ago.

DeSales will definitly have a conflict as they play their home games at Manual Stadium. If Manual beats Butler (which is very likely) both will be playing 1st round playoff games at Manual Stadium. I suppose either DeSales will find another location (Iroquois, Southern or Fairdale as none of these teams will play the 1st round at home) or move the game to Saturday.

Yes we did, but had to "return" it.:cry: The poor man's reference was to the fact we're not "on the radar" like Central. No matter though, it's not where you start, but where you end up. We're shooting for December.

I'm on the staff. We have speed and more speed, some size too to go along with a lot of experience. Kind of like a "poor-man's" Louisville Central. Our big snag is not being to play disciplined football all the time. We get looked over with our 3-4 record, but like Central we have played a very tough out of district schedule specifically to get us ready for the post-season. Losing close games to 6-A Male, Bryan Station and Butler and a very tough 2-A team in the season opener, DeSales. We finish the season at surging Ballard. We have the players to make a "Central-type run" to December, or an early round flame out.

Marion will get a tussle from Larue in it's district championship and I'm sure Western, Fairdale and Valley wont go quietly in the regionals.
