Rain coming again?

Featured Replies

With a good chance of rain again on Friday, how many fields are beyond playing on? At what point does someone step in and postpone a game or move the location. Who has the authority to do this? Can a visiting team refuse to play on a field? Just a few thoughts I had and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on them?

I would think it is to close to playoffs to be postponing games. Everyones fields are in bad shape unless you have turf-which most of us don't. Just play on and hope for the best I guess!

The revenue loss due to bad weather is quite a shame and could certainly have an impact on many athletic departments' budgets. We've had several games that should have been wall-to-wall, full capacity crowds and turned out to be very poorly attended due to miserable weather. Looks like the rain this Friday could be substantial. Nothing more enjoyable than sitting soaked in a pouring rain for a high school football game. :irked:

It sure looks that way I hope they are wrong don't know how much these fields will hold up.

It looks like (from computer models) that the rain could be in a band just west of Louisville thru Indy at game time Friday night. It will gradually drift eastward, but the flow will come from the south-southwest. NKY and Lex may escape the most of it, or at least until later.

We lucked out. Our by week is this week. Rain or shine though the boy's and I will be going to a game.

I definitely trust your forecast before I would the tv forecasters. They seem to have a problem getting it right. They have too many weather "models" and none of them seem to say the same thing. And they are wrong more than not.

It appears that multiple schools are pro-actively moving their games to Thursday night. Oldham County vs. Shelby County will be played Thursday night at 7 pm at Oldham. I hear John Hardin moved their game as well...

In Oldham's case, the field is in awesome shape, but they didn't want to tear it up in a storm that some forecasters say may dump up to 2 inches of rain in a short period of time. This is important because Oldham will host a playoff game next week, and perhaps the following week. A sloppy field is also a more dangerous field, and Oldham is already nursing some injuries.

The Oldham - Shelby game is a great rivalry, but it doesn't mean much otherwise anymore as Shelby is 6A and Oldham is 5A. (so playing it a day earlier isn't seen as an issue to the two schools)

It is Friday.

That means rain in the state of Kentucky in 2010.

You might have been making a joke, and if that is the case sorry I didn't pick up on it, but isn't it 2009?:idunno: Please tell me I haven't hibernated for a year?

Oooops!

Wishing time away is not good. I don't have an excuse for this one.

Our field at Western has taken a beating, playing three straight home games in a constant whistle to whistle rain. There's very little grass left between the 30's, meaning if we last very long in the playoffs (we'll host the 1st 3 games) the first time it gets real cold that dirt will be like playing on concrete.

Fortunately we play at Ballard tomorrow.

Its FOOTBALL, play the game, quit belly-aching, strap'em up and snap the ball...rain, snow, cold, heat, mud; stop a game only if it is a torrential down-pour or lightning, teams should play on. I loved to play on Belfry's old Vipperman field (aka Death Valley) and the opposing teams hated it, one tuff place to play and practice. And none of that crying about it being too wet and knee-deep in mud, we all had to play in it to. You win some and you lose some, teams need to stay fundimentally sound, hold on to the ball and play the game. Good luck to all teams on Friday night.:taz:
