  1. Hope the weather cooperates a little better that in did tonight at Manual. Just as the teams were warming up, the skies opened up. Cancelled the whole evening. :irked:
  2. Also helps you practice defending against the pass as well.
  3. They are struggling on defense, offensively they scored often, they just couldn't stop anyone.
  4. Central played Western Hills, Madisonville and Fort Knox in pool play, and failed to win a game. Fort Campbell was quite impressive, but E-Town gave them all they could handle. And it looks, at least as far as the 7 on 7 goes, E-Town could possibly have the athletes to push Central this year in that district. Madisonville had some very good athletes as well. Indy Warren Central looked the part, at least warming up, but I didn't get to see them play. I was mildly suprised Seneca wasn't around at the end.
  5. X played Male in the middle of the 3 pool play games, not sure if it was Male's #1's or #2's, as they brought two squads. X played their 1st game in PJCS. Couldn't tell who it was they played, but they won easily.
  6. We only had one day of 7 on 7 practice (Friday) before the tournament. We also had to play three games in a row without any break, still went 2-1.
  7. Their enrollment last year was about 100; they are only expecting roughly half of that next fall. 16 kids signed up to play for next season.
  8. I think Girls BB rules the roost now.
  9. Is Bullitt East having one on 6-20?
  10. Coach Norman is on this board, and out of respect to him I don't really want to say on here "what I have heard". I do know one of his assistants was being considered for a place on my staff last season (Western). Right at the end of last school year (about three weeks after we got hired) he went behind our staff's backs and started telling our AD/Principal things that had no truth to them, in an attempt to get Coach Boyd fired and for him to take over. Of course Boyd didn't hire him after hearing what he had done, and he ended up over at Iroquois. I don't know if this assistant had any role in Coach Norman's removal, but it wouldn't suprise me if he did. Again, I feel for Coach Norman, even if his removal was warranted, he put his heart into that program where a lot of other coaches would have walked away, and was starting to get some results.
  11. Coach Norman is a good guy and coach. My opinion is that one of his assistants (who has a history of) turned on him to the administration. He actually had Iroquois, bad as it is, going in the right direction. Kids played hard for him, and he had a pretty young team last year. Probably wouldn't have challenged J.Hardin for the title, but would have been competitive with BC, a rebuliding Doss and Waggener. Whatever the case a big loss. Betting now that he will be rejoin with Preston. If so, a big gain for the Charger program.
  12. If you play another team AFTER July 15th, is it counted as a "scrimmage"?
  13. And as long as they only have 300 or so boys enrollmentwise they will stay in 3-A.
  14. Western has multiple starters returning, some three-year starters. 9 on offense, 8 on defense. Also senior-to-be QB Orlando Brown (who sat out as a transfer last year) will take over at QB. The Warriors have multiple weapons of offense including: RB Dominic Turner, WR Romero Brown, WB Cortez Ricketts and RB Stephon Tanga. Junior-to-be DB Leon Melvin will lead the defense. Melvin was an AP honorable mention corner last year that had 9 interceptions, 3 returned for TD's. LB Kenyon Young, another junior-to-be, will also be a defensive leader. Both Young and Melvin have started every varsity game since the start of their freshman year. Senior Raeshon Maxwell will move from DE to LB where he should make big contributions. Sophomore-to-be Jalen Boyd should make an impact as well on defense. The big benefit Western should enjoy is the fact they will have an entire off-season weight-training program, along with a spring practice. The coaches were only hired around the 1st of May and were not allowed to meet with the players until the last Monday of school last year. Coach Boyd's 1st effort at scheduling will make for a big upgrade from last season as the Warriors trade non-district games with Central, Southern, Iroquois, Shawnee, and West Jessamine for Male, Butler, Ballard, Jeffersontown and DeSales. Bryan Station is still on the schedule. The biggest things Western needs to be successful this season is for the offensive line to be productive and to find a way to play disciplined football for 48 minutes - every game. With them, Western can make a run through the west half of the state, as they are athletically as good if not better than anyone. Without those two things, the Warriors will waste a big, experienced senior class and fall out early in the playoffs, as has been the case lately.
  15. Louisville Western vs. DeSales - week 0
  16. Louisville Western is returning 9 starters on offense and 8 on defense. But most importantly the staff will have off season lifting & conditioning and a spring practice, neither of which they had last season.
  17. Eastern 49 Jeffersontown 38. 6 minutes left in the game.
  18. Here's some notes from the C-J Blog: * Ballard's Ian Chiles misses off-balance three-point try at the buzzer. * 0:05.2 in fourth: Thomas Jackson sinks two free throws to give J'town a 64-63 lead. * 0:15.9 in fourth quarter: Ballard's Keisten Jones misses two free throws with 23.4 seconds left. J'town has the ball, trailing 63-62, and just called a timeout. * 0:31.7 in fourth quarter: Aaron Cosby hit 1 of 2 free throws with 41.9 seconds left to pull J'town within 63-62. Cosby then got a steal but missed a short shot. Ballard got the rebound on a jump ball and now has the ball. * 0:52.3 in fourth quarter: J'town had two chances to tie or take the lead, but Jordan Reves had his shot blocked and - after a Ballard missed free throw - Thomas Jackson threw the ball out of bounds. Ballard has the ball and just called a timeout. * 1:32 in fourth quarter: Thomas Jackson hits 2 of 2 free throws to pull J'town within 63-61. * 4:25 in fourth quarter: Ballard has the ball and a 59-53 lead. * End third quarter: After going scoreless in the first half, Wesley Cox scored 16 points in the third to give Ballard a 52-46 lead. Cox hit four three-pointers in the period. Jordan Reves scored 11 of J'town's 12 third-quarter points and now has 19 for the game. * 3:24 in third quarter: Wesley Cox has 11 third-quarter points as Ballard has opened the quarter with a 14-5 run to take a 43-39 lead. * Halftime: Thomas Jackson has 14 points and five rebounds to lead J'town, which is up 34-29 at the break. Chargers are shooting 43.3 percent (13 of 30). Keisten Jones is 4 for 6 from three-point range and has 17 points to lead the Bruins, who are shooting 42.9 percent (9 of 21). * 1:19 in second quarter: Thomas Jackson sinks back-to-back three-pointers to give J'town a 33-26 lead. * End first quarter: J'town leads 16-14 behind eight points from Thomas Jackson. Keisten Jones has five points to lead Ballard.
