This doesn't look like the Central team we are used to seeing this year.

I heard they had a lot of kids suspened. They even started a freashmen at QB.

Was told about 7 freshmen in all played.

I haven't had the chance to see this Central team, but Ty Scroggins is a fantastic coach. I was privileged to meet him last year when the Etown radio station asked me to broadcast their playoff game against Central (the radio station had one announcing crew, and they were following the John Hardin game against Doss, I believe...)...he's done a heckuva job at Central, and I wouldn't want to pick against the Yellowjackets in the postseason too quickly just because of this score...

Still - for the other teams ranked highly in 3A, it would seem that the Central armor has a few chinks in it this year - for all the talk about how 3A is "down" - and I think it is - it may be the most exciting of all six classes during the postseason. You could make a solid case for several teams...

I know the Jackets won but a 10 point win over Shawnee, the same team that lost to Cooper by 29 and Ludlow by 1???

Well, if they were missing several key players ...

That may explain all of it.

The discipline of Coach Scroggins is the main reason Central is going for a 3-peat. Playing in 3-A doesn't hurt, but just ask some of the teams they play in the regular season if they can compete in a higher class.

Central had better, more talented teams than the last 2 State Champs in 1994, 1995 and 2006. But those teams fell victim to their own undisciplined play in the post-season.

This year, much more than the past two seasons, Coach Scroggins has sat out (star) players for missing practice, getting in trouble at school or other reasons. Simply put, this team doesn't seem to be the same hungry, focused team that won the last 2 titles.

Having said this, I still don’t think there is anyone in the West half of the state that will keep Central out of the State Championship Game, and they might only receive a moderate challenge from Mason Co., Belfry, Breathitt or Somerset for the title. Central themselves will be the biggest roadblock to a third straight title.

Playing (and winning) with young players will make Central that more tough next season and down the road. They already pulled some of the top freshmen this year in Louisville and their success in basketball (back to back sweet 16 appearances) just make the school more attractive to middle school student-athletes.

Coach Scroggins is quickly running out of fingers to wear championship rings on.

I agree that though they have lost some games & aren't beating teams by great margins, this is only half of it. Once the playoffs start & they start playing the teams in their class, we will see a different team.

Last season Central won the first game between Shawnee by 14, (28-14). The second time was by 36, (40-6). This game is a rival game to Shawnee and Shawnee only. I think Scroggins down plays this game. E'town has become a more rival than Shawnee in his eyes.

This is a much different team than in the past. But I would not count them out of anything just yet. Do not read too much into that score.

The freshmen QB that started and led the team to all 3 touchdowns, (scoring once himself) is going to good. Along with the 47 freshmen and who knows how many incoming athletes they get, I would be willing to bet they will be making a trip in December for many years to come.
