  1. Amen! I personally would never be part of a group that believes this way or acts in this way. Humiliation will not bring someone to repent.
  2. I believe they took the death penalty off the table when they charged her with murder, but had not yet found the body. I don't know if they can change that now...but they should!
  3. If he goes "right down the road" he won't be handing the ball off or passing. He will be sitting out his Junior year.
  4. I have heard this also, apparently this is something he is telling the other players at school. If Greenup doesn't get a certain coach, he is moving. This type of attitude is very negative and the other players already question whether his loyalty is to Greenup or to himself....
  5. Oh no, they cannot tax my diet Mt Dew. (Although, the income generated from my purchases alone could pave a new highway!
  6. Because it is illegal for a nonprofit to provide "credits" (income) to individuals. The threat to audit the parents irs statements was fallout from the program acting illegally. If they followed the rules all fundraising efforts would benefit a program, generally...not specific individuals.
  7. The actual violation was giving parents monetary credit for their fundraising efforts/volunteer work. The Baseball booster group there may also lose their 501c3 standing for the same type of violation. It is not just bingo, it could be credit for working a concession stand or a carwash. NONprofits must comply with their stated (and submitted to the state) goals. Which are usually to support an athletic program, or band, cheerleading, etc... They cannot use the volunteer work to backhandedly provide a quasi income to individual members. Booster clubs' fundraising efforts are not taxed, as long as they comply with all of the IRS regulations and submit their annual report.
  8. The easiest answer is that most booster programs, 501c3, do not pay employment taxes, and workers are volunteers, not employees. It would be easier if she just got a job at the local fast food joint, earned her $400 and paid the full amount for going. Although, some large boosters do file on their employees, this gets pretty complicated.
  9. Volunteer work is just that volunteer. In athletic programs with set costs per participant, allowing parents to work off their debt with volunteer work is an old but illegal practice (cheerleading uses this practice big time!) In programs where the youth is not charged for participation but general costs are paid for by a booster club you have the same problem. Those who volunteer gripe about the ones who don't...if you are not happy about volunteering then don't do it! Don't show up to work and then gripe all season that you were "one of the few that worked." If you want to increase your participation, be positive, not negative! Catch more flies with honey, as the saying goes!
  10. You are so right Leonidas! The Greenup BOE needs to, once and for all, make the decision to support the program 100%, which means putting the money on the table!
  11. And this is what a lot of the problems are about. What is the world coming to when we are in trouble because people are not borrowing enough money. What happened to saving and paying cash? The only long term debt should be your mortgage. Pay cash for everything else or go without!
  12. No it isn't just the bingo. The KY Secretary of state is cracking down on all non-profit organizations and this booster club just got caught in the crossfire. All organizations must keep up with their annual tax filings/annual reports and must keep IRS quality records. Gone are the days that you can say hey we raised x amount of money with our carwash and then just dump the money into the bank account. You must seperate out the costs by event, with appropriate accounting procedures. X amount was spent for non-resale items, x amount was spent for paper costs. Booster clubs will need to invest in accounting programs to keep up with the new IRS requirements! I am not saying it is right, just that there are many groups out there that have NO CLUE! When the IRS comes knocking and asks to see their records they will be in big trouble! The first thing every booster group should do is check their current status with KY's Secretary of Statewebsite. Just type in your organizations name and you will be able to see your status. http://apps.sos.ky.gov/business/obdb/default.aspx
  13. :thumb: Absolutely! Getting more students out to support the school should be the goal...not quick cash.
  14. All booster clubs should take note! The IRS will come after you if you do not have your ducks in a row! It practically takes a CPA to keep up with all the filings and paperwork needed to manage these funds. Those of you out there still running your boosters like a social club take warning!
  15. Absolutely! Greenup has the money and hopefully they will now start turning loose of it!
  16. Does anyone know how many paid assistant positions Greenup offers?
  17. Depends on whether the losing record is their district record or their overall record. Many schools play tougher teams (outside of their district) for many reasons, geography, tradition, etc.
  18. I just checked this out and you are right, Wonderful set up! Love the quote on the wall... Champions are made with Iron and Sweat!
  19. There are quite a few names being tossed around, but as for who has actually applied, I do not know. I heard today they had done at least one interview. (but this could just be gossip.) I would like to see someone who can bring the community together so hope that it is an "outsider". You know the old addage, "an expert is someone from at least 75 miles away...!" And before anyone gets upset I am just using that as an example. IMO a coach who currently has strong ties to either the South Shore or Wurtland communities will have difficulties overcoming the prejudices parents already have for folks from the "other end of the county.."
