Thursday, December 11, 2008 Class of 2010 rankings It's the class everybody has been talking about for a number of years in the state of Kentucky - the Class of 2010. There is plenty of talent in the group. In fact, there's so much talent it's hard to rank them. In doing these rankings, I had four different players in the top spot and had to settle on somebody. I have seen the top 15 players on my list dozens of time. But that still didn't make it easier. Here are my rankings: Ge'Lawn Guyn (left), Scott County, 6-2: A big-time scorer who can run the show. He's talented, has the swagger and the colleges are coming at him in droves. Ricardo Johnson (right), Covington Holmes, 6-4: Johnson showed his stuff last year at the Sweet 16 and only got better over the course of the summer. Dakotah Euton, Scott County, 6-8: Expect him to average a double-double with his new team; Euton can shoot it from anywhere on the floor. Aaron Cosby, Jeffersontown, 6-2: He's been ranked by some as No. 1 overall and might be, but I want to see him playing high school again. He's so talented that he'll likely move up when he becomes eligible after his transfer. Chad Jackson, Scott County, 6-4: Still needs to work on his point guard skills, but he's so athletic and talented. Thursday, December 11, 2008 Class of 2009 rankings The final set of preseason rankings for me is the Class of 2009 or senior boys in the state of Kentucky and there's no question who is No. 1. The questions start after No. 1 where it's a tight race. Here are my 2009 boys rankings: Jon Hood, Madisonville, 6-7: He's the best player in the '09 class and his recent play leaves no doubt about it. Jacob Jenkins, Manual, 6-4: He's become more of an all-around player. Vee Sanford, Lexington Catholic, 6-4: A lot of big-time colleges are starting to show interest in this athlete. C.J. Penny, Anderson County, 6-5: An athletic guard who creates mismatch troubles. Richie Phares, Scott County, 6-8: The veteran - and leader - on the state's top team. He's better than many think he is. It does explain the score. Jenkins makes a huge difference in leadership, points and assists. He will need to get back if Manual has a chance to win against the schedule coming up. You don't lose one of the state's top 2 players and not have a drop off.

No game will come close to the intensity of Jtown versus Manual.

True and other teams not highly ranked seem to be putting up over 70 points on Scott County too. And they all seem to be shooting a better percentage than the Cardinals.

Going by Lion Mania's theory on losing close games to top ranked opponants, Tates Creek has to be in the top 5 in the state now.

That's right. Any team that plays a #1 or #2 team close must be inserted into the top 5 regardless of number of wins against top 20 foes.

CAL could compete for the 8th Region. It is one of the bottom 4 regions in the state and there are zero powerhouse teams in the 8th.

No. Atherton and Christian Academy are not at the same level, CAL is much better. Atherton dresses 7 or 8 players. Christian Academy would compete for the 8th region this year.

Plenty of time to "prove" it. I always like Fan11th commitment to proof and not hype.

It's a long season padre'. I suggest you let the season play out. Scott County got the transfers in and built a team. Had Euton and Jackson stayed at Rose Hill, Hill would be an average team at best and likely SC would be average at best without Euton and Jackson. I would wait until SC gets into 11th region play before claiming greatness. And one more note, Kentucky teams have always done great against top teams out in the country. For instance, no out-of-state team comes into the KOB and just walks out.

I did not realize Phares struggled so much in this game. He was 1 for 9 from the field and didn't reach double figures. He was in early foul trouble trying to defend players he's not accustomed to having to guard at his own height. He should shake this once he gets back to playing Kentucky teams.

An excellent way to show Kentucky is improving. Scott County certainly let it be known they could play even if Phares didn't play well tonight. Great showing.

Scott County has just played a top team in the country to overtime and nearly won. They also beat Ballard by 20. Jeffersontown won the 7th region last year and adds Cosby to a lineup that only loses one player. Manual won the LIT and finished 3rd in the KOB. Has already defeated one top 15 team and is now 2-0. Bryan Station hammered Holmes. Holmes was preseason #2. Lex Cath is playing impressive basketball now and is 2-0 with a big win today and a win over Cov Cath.

Then you could also say Lex Cath, Manual, Jeffersontown, Bryan Station, and a couple others could compete with any team in the nation. I think winning a top 20 game in your own home state should be the first goal. Great showing Scott County. Repped Kentucky well.

11th Game already while Kentucky teams are just getting started. How many games will Texas teams' play?

He must have really got it going since Manual and Jenkins put it on them. Lexington Catholic should be good in the 11th.

If the backcourt of Bryan Station can play like that, it can offset the height and interior play of Scott County. I do agree with you about the Bryan Station backcourt of Morones and Ashford. I have seen Morones during a few regular season games and during AAU. He's legit. Great Top 20 win for Bryan Station.

Holmes played 11th region Bryan Station a top twenty team in the state, not Morgan County.
