It might have a little, but I can tell you, I've seen Riley play a couple of times, and he is legit. The truth is, he just completely stopped shooting as much in the B'wood game because he wasn't trying to be the "ball hog" but he needs to know when and when not to turn it off. His team needs him and his leadership.

Ha, I TOTALLY agree with you. The main problem is that none of guards can be trusted to bring down the ball. Our guards have an uncanny ability to throw the ball away immediately before or after they hit half court. This is shown in the 36 turnovers in 2 games. We won't win any game that way. But when they did happen to make it that far down the court, passing around the arc just won't work and that has ALWAYS been the offense of CCH. I don't think it's a secret we do NOT have the shooting this year.

Thelen got away with fouls, that was the difference in his physicality. His blocks were 1. arm thrown out awkwardly and ball bouncing off it, and the others WERE fouls, just not called because they were slight. I do agree he did fine, but Thelen has a LONG way to go before he is ready for varsity. [not that it matters too much since varsity looks terrible]. And yeah Isler obviously needs to get back into basketball shape, they anticipate it being a couple weeks before he is ready to go completely. But the technical was a quick whistle, and he shouldn't have said anything to the ref, but I heard from a few good sources, the ref thought he said something different than he did, hence the quick call. Truth was outside of the tech, somebody needed to push the big guys down low on their rumps..cause we were getting pushed around, and that needed to be put to a quick stop.

Wow, this is so impressive and I'm really happy for SK! Good luck next week! Everyone has underestimated what youre capable of up until now, so show them next week.

I am not a big Holmes fan, but I have to respectfully disagree with you here. I'm not sure what boys you saw, but I did not notice any type of lack of respect in the times I have seen them. I DO agree with you though that this just might be what they needed. They have the talent, but they needed someone to show them they can be beat. And they need Riley to step up and take control. He is a GREAT point guard, and if he can figure out how to lead this team, they will be absolutely fine.

Shover may have made the game a bit closer, but you can't really think that he would have made it a 5 point game or even anywhere close. CCH was outmatched. It is impossible to beat a team with a tall lineup like that, with your short guard lineup in. And unfortunately CCH is going to live and die by that as it has done in past years. It just won't work as well this year because beyond Shover and Ives, we don't have a guard that can be trusted to control the ball. It is going to be a rough season, esp. with Shover being out. And probably the worst thing of all is that fact that in the first two games alone there have been 36 turnovers..you just can't win games that way. And FT's were bad as well. Mason County just flat out won this game, no question about it. I don't see how Highlands beat them... Ps: CCH needs to develop an offense. Passing around the arc and across to the other side of the arc doesn't seem to be working.

Now that you mention it, youre right lol. Beechwood subbed someone in for Romes at one point, literally 10 seconds later he was back in. Both teams did not have much of a bench though.

lol that's what I was thinking. As for the game, I'm going to go with CCH by about 10. I'm really hoping the sloppy play and 23 turnovers and 5/23 from behind the arc was just a fluke..so Friday they come out for their first home game and play like a team and get the win.

Well, closer than I predicted and expected, but it's the first game so I'm not too upset. I would just like to start out by saying that Pittman is HUGE. My jaw literally dropped when I saw how big he had gotten since I had seen him last year. Anyways.. Holmes: Overall pretty solid performance. Ricardo Johnson, while he probably didn't have one of his better games, still put up around 10 and his presence on the floor was much needed for Holmes. I love his attitude [and his brothers for that matter]. When he fouled and it was maybe a bit controversial as to whether he did, he did not argue, he handed the ref the ball and went down the court and did the "its ok" sign. Really great to see a kid like that, and it really shows what type of player he is. Jamel Riley is the real deal. I haven't seen every PG in the 9th or even in NKY but if there is one better, I'll be VERY surprised and impressed. He did not miss a shot and he took control when he needed to. I was disappointed he didn't shoot more in the second half in fact. After their first six though, they have a drop off in talent and that will hurt them this year. They have little depth off the bench, and besides Arnold it was pretty obvious that there needs to be a lot more development. And Holmes REALLY needs to work on rebounding and following the shot. There were a few times instances where a player took a shot and watched it as opposed to following it in. As for Beechwood, well I'm really impressed they hung in there as long as they did. Beautells [i did not spell that right did I lol] was a good PG for them, but he needs to watch his pushoffs. He did not get called for them tonight, but he will somewhere down the road and it may be a hard habit for him to break as he did it almost every time. He had a really good shot though. Romes, while getting his 16 points, was literally shut down in the first half almost, with only 1 point. He was frustrated by Ricardo's defense and it showed, he played a bit scared. Most of his points were breakaway easy layups, but I did not see the top 10 player everyone has talked about. AJ Smith inside had some nice size on him. He also needs to watch his pushing down low, there is a point where it's not just bodying up, it's flagrant pushing around and it's not going to fly for a lot of ref's, and I believe he and the guy he was guarding got called out on it a few times tonight. Throwing it inside over the defenders head was a nice idea though. Fun game to watch!

23 turnovers. Ouch. Obviously 20 turnovers for LexCath wasn't stellar either. As I said both looked sloppy. BTW TOG I agreed that the only person who could hit the rim last night was Maile, and I said as much. But if you honestly thought they looked like a TEAM last night you watched a different game than many. Everyone out there looked like an individual. And YES if Counts takes another three, it will be a longgggg season lol. Nice followup..luckily they were total bricks right back at his face so he could get two.

Well, it was definitely discouraging to see Wellbrock and Isler post up and muscle their way and be pretty much wide open for the pass and literally get looked at and driven into...quite a few of those drives turned into bricks or turnovers as well. And the players throwing up the threes, well 5/23 says it all lol, but yes, a couple of players need to learn where their strengths actually are. But as for the not working well together as a team, it seemed to me like it was 5 individuals playing tonight and not a team of 5 guys. Everyone seemed to be looking out for number 1 a lot of the time, when there were open players or people running the lanes on fast breaks and it was just kind of frustrating to see. If the TEAM is going to win games and go anywhere they will need to learn to play like one, and tonight I didn't see that. But it IS the first game, so hopefully it all gels soon. Understandably so, these things can take time...just hope not toooooooo long. :thumb:

Hard to really tell, as the makeup of the team would be different, the chemistry would likely be different. It would have without a doubt been a more significant loss then the 9 points. He was "on" tonight. It was disappointing because they really did not work well together as a team tonight, and hopefully they work out the kinks and come out strong on Friday night.

Ha, I'm guessing you realized I meant "blow" not "play". Anyways, yeah I heard the scrimmage was a different situation entirely, but for some reason I just really didn't expect or think MC would be THAT great this year. Very happy for Highlands though, because they obviously had to fight for it, and they deserved it. =]

I actually didn't expect Mason Co. to play Highlands out at all. So I'm not TOO TOO surprised. Congrats to Highlands.

I don't think he is saying that the sixth and seventh man for Holmes could start for ANYONE in the state, but a few schools I'm sure they could. If Arnold is the kid I'm thinking of, he would likely start for a gooooood number of schools.

Holmes will win this handily. Even if Holmes plays a bit sloppy they would still win this one easily. Beechwood is just really no contest for them. And I wouldn't expect Romes to have a good game...no slight to him, but when put up against legit competition, I just am not impressed, and I'm gonna think one of the 5 starters on Holmes team will be able to handle him. Holmes 74 Beechwood maybeee 40?? maybe.

Sloppy game for the Colonels. I'd really like to know the number of turnovers; it has to be pretty high. Maile was key tonight, and that is the good thing about him, sometimes he REALLY helps you [like tonight] but other times he tries to do too much with the ball and gets negative results. I think Shover not being 100% had a lot to do with Maile trying to take full control tonight, and hopefully once Shover is back he'll tone that down. But 23 points is a great showing tonight! 5 for 23 from behind the arc. =/... Not much else can be said, and for those who think this is going to be a rarity; you're in for it. CovCath does not have the 3pt shooters it used to this year. Shover, and Sorrell when he is on are the only two I'd legitimately trust taking the three. Ives can also hit it when he is on, but beyond that, some people were taking shots out there that really shouldn't. The strength this year will be driving in, and looking inside in order to open up the outside. I was disappointed that both Wellbrock and Isler posted up and got no results from it, as the ball was thrown inside maybe twice. That being said, Wellbrock and Isler both need to step it up a bit with the rebounds on the offensive side of the board. Both did well with clearing out, now they need to go for the ball. First game, and neither team was impressive, but things will get better. Hopefully CCH can find some ball handling, because tonight it was atrocious and really might be the downfall of the team if they don't find someone besides Shover that can be trusted with the ball. PS: Vee Sanford, while good, didn't impress me as much as I thought he would...28 points not too shabby though lol.

I don't like HC's gym at all. In the 9th I'd say Holmes is nice, and CovCath for the atmosphere. Could do without the tiny box claustrophobic feel from time to time though.

Agreed completely. Although I don't know Connor so I'm not at all directing it towards him.

I wasn't impressed with Dixie's QB at all when they played CCH early in the year. Not sure which guy it was though..

I'm thinking BC shouldn't have too many problems with Ryle...

Lexcath will pull it off I think, but I'm hoping CCH makes a good showing to start off the year!

Having seen Wellbrock and Islerplay together on JV and a bit on varsity, I'd disagree that Counts and Isler and Wellbrock and Thelen compliment each other. Isler is slow, no secret there, but he is power. Wellbrock has more speed but isn't as aggressive esp. on offense. Those two together works much better and I believe after a while we'll see them in together. But you're right Coach Listerman likes his guards and I was not at the scrimmage so I couldn't say how the shooting was, but I know for a fact if we rely on shooting, we're in trouble.
