I have heard that they have hired a company and they plan to start working soon, but there is no way it could get done by August. I would shoot for 2010. I would love to see some plans, drawings, or even just a description of what they are planning.

I have been a Dylon Smith fan for years he played some awesome games against Bell County in middle school as a skinny little running back, but he is one of those kids that thinks he is a 6' 6 230 not afraid of anything and can absolutely fly. He will be a force in the secondary and I think I mentioned this already but Coach Larkey started using him as a running back some later in the season. Cody Taylor and Marcus Mcmillian will be a pleasure to watch Cody has the same tuff (almost crazy) attitude as Dylon. I look for all of these young men to benefit from Coach Larkey!

What players on offense will surprise us this year. In your opinion.

That is an excellent point Odessa. Last year we had a lot of numbers, but I still felt like there were some kids that didn't play that could have. I believe everyone new just about automatically who would be the main players the first year, it just had to be that way with a first year and time they had to prepare. But anyways there may be a whole lot more boys come out this year and make a difference.

Jordy has played winning football with the patriots and with the freshman team this year he has some big game experience so I'm sure he will do just fine. He also runs pretty well. Did Larkey ever start a freshman at any position?

That's what I was thinking, the team seems to need a Linebacker or two and Coach Larkey seemed to take interest in him as the season progressed. Do you want to be bold and predict a record?

I believe Brewer will be QB too, but stranger things have happened, I just don't know if Coach Larkey would start a sophomore at QB. I agree Clark may not have any 400 yard games, but I don't think (as bad as I hate to say it) we will miss Gilliam once Clark and Green get going. Also toward the end of the year Dylon Smith was used as a running back some, he was an awesome middle school back who knows. Taylor and McMillian also got some varsity playing time during the year like you said they could play a role. I also look for him to be one of the top defensive players in the mountains. I also figured Clark as a linebacker? Do you think any freshman will make an impact?

Do they practice for this game? I am guessing they do. I would think a basketball coach would allow a player to miss a basketball game if it would further the chances of the young man getting a chance at a scholarship. Or at least a decent coach would do that!

They have to find a QB! Two possibilities are Larry Williamson and Jordy Brewer. Williamson was the varsity back up and JV QB last year and Jordy was the Freshman team QB. Jordy is playing basketball this winter and Larry opted to work out with the football team. Not sure if that will make a whole lot of difference. The sleeper is Austin Maggard incoming freshman who has some potential, but I doubt Larkey goes with a freshman QB, but who knows. Shequille Clark should pick up where Nathanial Gilliam left off at running back. Not real sure about the Defense I believe it will be strong may have a freshman or two contribute on D. Over all a full off season of working out and practice should make this teams just as exciting as last years.

Isn't the Super Bowl usually played in California or Florida? I believe the game will be played a the University of the Cumberland's in Williamsburg. I saw the roster someplace I think someone had it posted on this site under border bowl. I guess these two are the same game.

The Black Bears finished 8-4 pretty darn good for a new team. We are headed in the right direction I look forward to next year and beyond. Should've, could've sure done us in tonight. Dropped pass, two turnovers, you just can't over come that stuff. Good game though. Really proud of my Bears! How long to next year? Go Bears!

I think in the first game our boys were used to just hitting people they didn't really try to tackle and when they did it was up high. I'm sure Coach Larkey has told them to take the feet out from under the ball carrier. I think Glen Roberts at Linebacker has a chance to be a factor against fugate. I'm not expecting a miracle just tackles. I hate to sound cliché' but Fugate is the type of kid you can't stop you can only hope to contain him. We also should have a better passing game then the previous meeting. And of course Black Bear fans are looking at this game as we did the first meeting we don't expect our team to lose! Well some do see my next post!

The key to this game will be the Black Bears tackling Fugate! The had a hold on him just about every play in the previous game and just couldn't get him down. The Key is tackle low and take his fee out from under him, as long as he can keep his legs moving he can break tackles. I'm sure Larkey will discuss our tackling issues have our boys executing. We also need to have Roberts running the ball quite a few times. Just enough to pound them so Green and Gilliam can change it up and out run them. By the way did anyone see Roberts leave 3 Wayne county players on the ground when he scored last week. I'm picking my Black Bears 38-32. Go Bears!

Good Job Black Bears! Wayne County played hard but everyone gives it there all in the playoffs. The Defense played tuff! They need to build on that. Now on to Breathitt!

From what I've seen I believe every school in Wayne County is around their football field. Pretty nice facilities though! Who's bringing the hot chocolate? Looking forward to a Bears Win.

I'm going with my Black Bears in this one 28-14. They are coming together at the right time. They are just a completely different team with Blanton at QB and Green teaming up with Gilliam especially when Roberts clears a hole for them. They did beat Somerset at home so I don't think Wayne being at home helps that much. I believe the offense will put up the points plus the Black Bear defense builds on a good second half performance last week and puts together a whole game. GO BEARS!

Don't know a lot about Somerset except the road between there and London is about as lonesome and boring as 119 between Harlan and Pineville. Shouldn't be to bad though coming back home as winners. Harlan County 35-21. Go Bears!

I'm still here supporting my Black Bears as well! Good game!!!. Should have/could have won. We have been close in two of our losses and could use that same slogan for both, but all I know is that we still have a winning record and our three losses came to good teams. We are a first year consolidated program and are going to the playoffs. Not bad mouthing them by any means but look at Letcher Central, they had a rough year or two at the beginning of their consolidation and look where they are at now! We are primed to make some noise this year and for years to come. Go BEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I look for Harlan Counties other two quality backs to have a good game or at least one of them because once Estill focuses on Gilliams BAM here comes Green on a sweep. Then out of the blue Blanton completes a couple of passes to Dylon Smith and Polson and Estill's defense spreads out some more then Gilliam takes it to the house. Just a thought. Go Bears!

Way to go Bears! A great individual performance and a good team performance. The Defense played pretty well despite giving up 36 points. Dylon Smith was all over the field and he probably weighs 160 pounds soaking wet but hits like a defensive end or linebacker. Throws his whole body into a hit. Once on a kickoff he got hammered and jumped right back up and made a play. Outstanding night way to go Gilliam. Bring on Estill Co.! Oh yeah how come a week ago Middlesboro was going to beat Harlan County and this week they are a "rebuilding" team?

Black Bears Win 24-17. The weather calls for rain that hurt them before I hope they can get through that. But I believe the offense is primed and ready to explode. Would love to see Dylon Smith touch the ball more!!

That looks to be an interesting time. Game close to playoff time, both teams wanting to win playing hard. You can look at it two ways I guess: Good gear up for the playoffs Bad everyone will be playing hard and tuff trying to win this one may wear on some players and may cause some injuries. I look at it as a good tune up for playoffs for Harlan County Bell could be better than any body Harlan County would play in the playoffs If they beat Bell right before the playoffs what motivation that would be.

The JV game played earlier this season wasn't a big deal until Bell Won then the thread was flooded with compliments to Bells JV. That thread also got into who played and who didn't. Both programs look to be well stocked for the future. We will see these boys going head to head for years. I can't wait! Coach Larkey and Coach Hilton are class acts especially scheduling games where Harlan Co./Bell Co. can play because both counties fans are dying for that rivalry. Go Bears.
