Border Bowl game in January

Featured Replies

Does it make sense to have this game in the middle of basketball season? Sure puts a lot of pressure on multiple sport athletes.

Not sure I understand.

Not sure I understand.

If the games are held in January, it interferes basketball, if it is held in April in interferes with baseball, if it is held in the summer, colleges already have decided who they are going to recruit, and players are told by the college coaches to not play in any All-Star games. If it is held in the fall, well football season is then.

Football interferes with fall baseball, and preseason basketball.

Summer basketball interferes with football and baseball.

Baseball interferes with football and basketball.

You can play any sport you want, you can play as many sports as you want, but you just can't play spring baseball, summer baseball, fall baseball, AAU basketball, school basketball, football, 7 on 7, football camp, basketball camp, baseball clinics, and off season weightlifting conditioning.

That was my point. It will interfere with something, no matter when you have it.

You aren't kidding! My son is a two-sport athlete at Oldham County HS, and he's probably found two sports that are as close to "compatible" as possible - Cross-Country (fall) and baseball (spring). He plays rec league basketball in the winter and does off-season baseball conditioning... But even cross country and baseball cross wires occasionally, as he plays for a summer and fall team that conflicts with cross country off-season conditioning...and he has to miss a few fall ball games (or arrive late) due to cross country practices or meets.

It's crazy...:D

Thanks, I get it now. :thumb:

Makes a lot of since. This game will probably soon be the best of the Ky all-star games it is a big honor the kids get a lot of stuff and it is played fairly close to the season so the boys will still be in tune with their football skills, it is also played before national signing day giving some boys a chance to show their skill set one last time. This game is one of the game I feel is really trying to promote the kids. It is unfortunate that it interferes with basketball but it is a good opportunity for the kids involved.

If it gives the player timely exposure, then it is a good thing. By all means, any player invited should play. Actually, the game seems late to me. The soccer all-star game is within a couple of weeks of the end of the season. Why wouldn't the football game be the same? Maybe the holidays?

Does anybody have the rosters for the game??

Heres the thing. Basketball and football is the 2 big sports in Ky. Football already goes way into basketball season and effects practice. Basketball does not effect football practice. It does off season stuff, but not practice. There is no need to have an allstar football game in the middle of basketball season. Thus another KHSAA mistake (assuming I am correct that the KHSAA either put it on or atleast allow it).

Does KHSAA have anything to do with this event? Any numbers on how many current basketball players are on the roster? Great for football, basketball players should stay with their teams.

My son was a two sport athlete and his did not conflict. That sure can't be said for many of them. He played soccer and tennis.

This game is mainly for the purpose of letting players that have not committed to a college, get on one more chance to be seen by recruiters and get a chance to pay for their education. That is it. And it can't been done after "Signing Day", that is why this game is played when it is played. It's not to conflict with basketball, it is just to help players get a college education.

Where is it held and what are the rosters? How is it selected?

Sure hope the KHSAA likes the very low attendance, Bone chilling and snowy weather, lol.
