Sure hope the KHSAA likes the very low attendance, Bone chilling and snowy weather, lol.

Why is it that the Superbowl is in January then? ;)

I'm not sure the KHSAA cares. The players that get exposure and college scholarship offers do though.

If the games are held in January, it interferes basketball, if it is held in April in interferes with baseball, if it is held in the summer, colleges already have decided who they are going to recruit, and players are told by the college coaches to not play in any All-Star games. If it is held in the fall, well football season is then.

Football interferes with fall baseball, and preseason basketball.

Summer basketball interferes with football and baseball.

Baseball interferes with football and basketball.

You can play any sport you want, you can play as many sports as you want, but you just can't play spring baseball, summer baseball, fall baseball, AAU basketball, school basketball, football, 7 on 7, football camp, basketball camp, baseball clinics, and off season weightlifting conditioning.

That was my point. It will interfere with something, no matter when you have it.

Excellent post!

I would be interested in seeing which All Star players play football and basketball.

I guess I am lucky. At my small school, football and basketball work together for the betterment of the athlete, not as to which team is stepping on the other's toes.

I have seen who was invitd but I have not seen who accepted. Grant Darnell is a 7th man for the Montgomery County basketball team and he hs accepted (I think) and Ryan Williams at GRC is a starting point guard but was alos one of the leading rushers in the state.

Heres the thing. Basketball and football is the 2 big sports in Ky. Football already goes way into basketball season and effects practice. Basketball does not effect football practice. It does off season stuff, but not practice. There is no need to have an allstar football game in the middle of basketball season. Thus another KHSAA mistake (assuming I am correct that the KHSAA either put it on or atleast allow it).

Football should NOT be adjusted to help basketball. These kids can play hoops nearly year round, but not football. As far as the summer, summer basketball absolutely impacts football.l

However, I do agree this is a ridiculous time to have the all star game. I like the summer better as at least (after baseball playoffs are over), there is no impact on any school season.

Isn't the Super Bowl usually played in California or Florida?

I believe the game will be played a the University of the Cumberland's in Williamsburg. I saw the roster someplace I think someone had it posted on this site under border bowl. I guess these two are the same game.

Not always, but I guess I see your point. I was thinking more of weather for travel being a factor, not the possible game conditions. The Super Bowls that are held in more northern cities (even Minneapolis I think?) are usually (always?) played in domed stadiums. Bad example on my part, then. I still wonder how many kids will have to choose between playing in the All Star game and a basketball game and which basketball coaches find it a serious problem.

I agree it is great for the kids to get another chance to show their talents, I would be most concerned with the chance of injury in that the season has been over for a few weeks and now these kids that have been playing basketball have to start it back up with football. It will or should require some type of conditioning to prepare, my concern is injury. Its a great honor, but if it was played after the last playoffs maybe that could be a compromise for all.

You can have what you want, but you can't have it all.

:thumb: We could have ended this discussion with your post because it says it all. We all make choices in life and nobody gets it all. If the purpose of the game is college coach exposure and possible scholarship/grants, then this is when the game needs to be played.

All sports can be year around. You don't think St. X, Bell Co, Trinity, Highlands, Boyle Co, etc aren't working on football year around in the weight room among other things?

This game is mainly for the purpose of letting players that have not committed to a college, get on one more chance to be seen by recruiters and get a chance to pay for their education. That is it. And it can't been done after "Signing Day", that is why this game is played when it is played. It's not to conflict with basketball, it is just to help players get a college education.

We are also forcing so many kids to make a decision on whether or not to play in an allstar game or stay with their basketball teams. There are so many opportunities for kids to be seen in football now as it is. I guess we can agree to disagree.

Do they practice for this game? I am guessing they do.

I would think a basketball coach would allow a player to miss a basketball game if it would further the chances of the young man getting a chance at a scholarship. Or at least a decent coach would do that!

I believe they report on Wednesday, have one practice Wednesday night, three practices on Thursday, and Two practices on Friday with a banquet on Friday night, then play the game at 1pm on Saturday.

That sums it all up, any other reason would be meaningless. This is a fantastic opportunity for these young men to showcase their skills and meet and greet with colleges. A once in a lifetime event, It is just fantastic that the local organizers put together such a function. Thanks to all involved for giving our, KY and TN young men this honor.:thumb:

I believe that all three Bell players selected play baseball, but not basketball.

Everyone has had a few days off for holidays....and to recover somewhat from a fifteen game season. Should be a lot of fun to watch. Some great talent coming in. The East-West Game is in the summer. Many top players that are selected in past have not played due to college commitments in summer, or coaches that will not let them play after signing. Border Bowl is not having to compete against that and will put up a better team against Eastern Tennessee team.
