  1. IMO the reason some of the boys are not staying is not all the boys live in a short distance to the school. Alot of parents work and cannot get their kids from practice.I don't think that Raceland and other schools realize how convienent it is to be so close to your school. With that being said I also think that some of the boys are wondering what is going on with the talk of new weight equipment and new coach when is it all going to take place? When the kinks are all worked out then I believe we will see results with more staying. As far as being able to go to fitness world the economy is not in the best of shape right now and people are cutting back I know we could not afford something like that. But when I was in school amino acids and protein and a very strict weight lifting program was provided what has happened tho this?
  2. No reason to focus on one player like Rister(no disrespect) IMO the new coach may not even use him at quaterback. I believe every player will earn their spots with the new coach.Which I believe is a good thing. Some of the players might be better in another poisition than what they played last year. [/color] In other words their talent not fully being used last year with Sammons.I have also heard from several of the boys at the school that they are going to come out for the team next year. The atmosphere is great at the school for football right now and new talent is waiting to play. The board meeting is tonight and we will need all the support from parents, and fans to be there.Starts at 6:00. If we intend to see these changes take place then we need to be at these meetings to let the BOE know that the community is indeed ready for change and willing to support it. Hope to see everyone there.:dancingpa
  3. Rec you seem to know alot more info than some of us folks,so is this process of the new weights and fieldhouse going to be used by this years football team or is this a few years deal? If they indeed plan on doing all of these changes this year WHEN are they going to start I would love to see the boys get use of the wonderful changes this football season. But it looks like to me that they would have to start NOW to get all of this accomplished before the season starts. So spill the beans whats the insiders story on all of this? I won't tell LOL.:sssh:
  4. I think that the combination of the football teams is a WONDERFUL idea the boys would all learn to play together and instead of trying to beat each other they would be a team. The way that it is now the boys from both ends have to play against each other and it is drilled into their heads to beat the opposing school. It sounds to me that most of the people who are against this idea are all at a different school now and might be a little afraid we just might get things together and end up beating them. I too will come to the BOE meeting and vote for this change. Stay focused people I believe that it is all coming together for us MUSKIES.
  5. I know in a previous thread it was mentioned about getting the boys rides to and from practce is this going to be done by the school like pick up and drop off points or is this being done by indivual people? I believe if there was some sort of transportation then alot more of the boys would have the chance to play.
  6. Now there is the spirit. And I believe alot more people will be willing to help as well. :dancingpa
  7. :sssh: Should have known.
  8. Agreed Jackson was an outstanding player but check with the coach from last year and also the points there were 4 games my son scored at least 20 points and up in the games and him and Jackson were voted the mvps of the team. But Jacakson has moved to raceland so he is not the issue here. All I'm saying here is give all the boys a chance to prove them selfs before putting them on the bench. Just because they chose to play football and not come out for basketball when it first started is not a reason to sit them out.
  9. Yes the boys have weight lifting the last period of the day, but from what I've been told the boys have been doing everything but lifting.I know before the break they were wrestling and kickboxing my son took pics and showed them to me from his phone. I don't think that the weights have been focused on like they should be and I hope the new coach does change this.Lifting is vital to a good team.Just the same as hitting is and Sammons did not do much of this either.
  10. Well I don't think that the coaches have given some of the football players a fair chance I know that one of the freshman players was the MVP and was averging 26 points a game last year at wurtland and now they have him at third string on the freshman team. The coach for the freshman team had his team picked before anything was ever started simply from the two of the players that were 8th graders who played at the high school last year. I say give them all a chance to prove them selfs before automatically putting them on the bench because they have been playing another sport.
  11. Went to the game last night (by the way good job Rams) any way I was told by one of the officials (that was there not working just visiting) that he had heard that Fairviews coach was interested in the job. I believe that some people will be surprised by head coaches that do actually apply for this job and really we won't even know who all of them are because it will be confidential. I have confidence that a great coach is on the way if we don't keep a positive attitude on this then what is the use in even caring. If indeed a first time asst. coach is hired then as GC fans lets get behind him and support the team. Every body starts somewhere . And I for one am ready for a new beginning for GREENUP:dancingpa
  12. Could you please send them our way:banana:Thanks
  13. I too like the way you think do you by chance know of such a coach?
  14. We know you mean well thanks for all you do for the boys Doc.:thumb:
  15. Now does anyone have new info on names that have applied for this position? I know you loyal football fans have heard something.
  16. You are right if you can do it then do it .But where are they? I have been to the work days and the meetings and have yet to see any of them. I'm sorry but having to endure crap is just an excuse for not wanting to do anything more than talk it up.WE NEED ACTION,people who will back up their ideas. For an example of what I'm talking about our sign board was blown over by a very strong wind and needed to be rebuilt so the boys would have a place to run through, the senior parents were tired and did not want to take on such a big project(I don't blame them with all the work they have done)but needless to say the school did not build it and will not so that leaves the touchdown parents. Now I can take a piece of paper with a plan on it but until I put on a toolbelt and start building what good is it going to do?All I'm saying is lets work together and be there for everything not just ideas.
  17. With regards to what has been said about the presentation hats off and great job but lets go a little bit further and not only talk about what could or should be done but let's do it. In fact where are these people when it comes to work days on the field like painting, mowing grass, feeding the boys or where are they when the touch down club has a meeting? It works both ways step up and be there for the boys in all things not just a BOE meeting. It is so easy to sit back and judge but a whole lot harder to actually put words to action.
  18. Honestly you are right it should have been done along time ago. With the renovations that have been done recently to the school I dont think we have had the funds. Now the baseball field is getting a makeover and hopefully the school will agree to the football field makeover as well.Anything that is done has to be an improvement and hopefully it will draw attention from a GREAT coach.Someone who can do the football program some good. The school since my kids have been playing has never really supported foootball they would only pay for some of the charter bus to take the boys to Letcher Co. for the game.If it was not for the touchdown club Nothing would have been done for these kids. Maybe with a new principal and super things will change.
  19. The part about Mr. Rister having a son playing at Greenup for two years is correct. And before Coach Sammons left his son was probably going to be quaterback next year.I'm sure who ever the new coach is will choose his quaterback with this said I don't think that wanting to fix up the stadium or the equipment for the boys is a bad thing, they are in much need of all these things.Unless brownie points are trying to be scored I think it is a wonderful idea.
  20. I agree we could really use a guy like him on our side of the Gridiron.
  21. Like I said just a rumor but it came from a reliable source so I'm not sure.
  22. Way to go Fairview You boys have played a great season and now it is time to focuse on Raceland.
