You are correct, 6 of the 8 every day starters return. * The C (Hennigan) has been starting since 8th Grade. An absolute wall behind the plate and a very underrated hitter. * The SS (Whitford) is a 4 year starter, and played in the Jr All-State game last year. * Ramey (3B) and Martin (P/1B) have started since their sophomore year. Both are serious next level players. Ramey's exit velo off the tee was 91mph last week. Martin's velo on the mound absolutely blew up over the spring/summer. I clocked him consistently at 84-88 during the fall. And, he is a solid hitter as well. * Murray (LF), Venneman (CF), Ball (DH), and Mills (1B/DH) are back for the second year as full-time starters. The first two cover major ground and are very aggressive on the base paths. Mills is a potential HR every time he steps to the plate. Ball really stepped it up last year and had many key hits. * HHS has a very unique thing (at least in NKY) in that their staff is comprised of many players that are basically PO's. Jones, Raisor, Bunning, and Noe all are quality pitchers who return with significant experience. Plus, they have a nice mix of rightys and leftys, which they can use to their advantage in terms of matchups. * There will be major competition for spots - especially at 2B and RF. Lots of candidates to fill those roles. Remember, the JV won the regional tournament last year with a loaded class of juniors. They will compete not only for the 2B and RF spots, but their talents will challenge those that started last year. In short, this team is a serious threat to win the 9th. I think their main issue is doing the little things better. They must play better defense. Frankly, last year, it was a weakness. They need to get more bunts down, move runners over, etc. They need to hit more consistently and have more quality AB's. But, the pieces are there. Can they be beat? Absolutely. But they'll be fun to watch.

Yes, there was. He was a solid basketball/baseball player. Good guy as well. And the boy referenced is his son.

He's a fantastic LB and a tremendous lead off hitter. When he was 11, he was seeing at least 5 pitches every AB. Very few young kids get that. No matter the sport. Just. Gets. It. A kid you always want on your team. Great player. Great family.

Congrats to the Birds! Fantastic effort. Way to get it done. Congrats Coach W and the entire staff. Fantastic job of adjusting and keeping the team focused. Special kudos to the seniors. Great leadership not to panic down 3 scores at half. Your efforts and leadership will impact those in the classes that follow. Finally, a special note to the football players that I had to pleasure to coach in baseball for many years. I can't believe you guys are about to graduate. Goes too fast. Very proud of you.

Based on prior years, the rankings will be updated after the January/February showcases. They don't tend to make too many updates based on high school performance. Rather, it's largely driven by the showcases.

* While the last loss still stings, time to address what was a fantastic year for the program * To the seniors, I can't believe it went so fast. It seems like 4 weeks ago that you played the program's very first freshmen game on a cold night at Scott. I watched you all grow up and help change the face of the program. Each year, the varsity won more games under your watch. Take pride in the fact that you leave HHS baseball in a much better place than when you came in. I'm proud of all 5 of you!!! * To the returning players, remember the feeling of your last game. Let that motivate you to work harder - whether you won a championship (and wish to keep that memory) or the varsity regional loss (and wish to break through and win it all). * To the senior Diamond Club parents, thanks for all of your efforts. Like your sons, you left the program in a much better place. Thanks for tolerating my poor jokes and my crazy ideas. You all are always welcome to join us on the hill with the BSCC. First time for it. I believe Coach B saw where some college teams were doing something similar. Based on the fun they had, I think an annual tradition has been started.
