BELL 40...that was a sarcastic SPELLING in response to your response!! Wow, this is the great thing about BGP, some just do not quite get it!! Let me try again, Eastern Kentucky...Duh!! Eta Rho & ESPNGUY....he just does not understand. There is not any reason to waste anymore of your time trying to get Bell 40 to understand the Holmes situation and specific players capabilities, etc. They justified on the court all year who they are and why they deserve all opportunities put before them. Great kids deserve great opportunities when they are earned.

This took place on the Paintsville end of the floor after Arrez threw an outlet pass. My 10 and 12 year old sons asked why Slone did not get his 5th foul for the grabbing of Henderson's jersey. It was very obvious! The refs were more concerned with Holmes scoring on the other end of the floor. This took place at the end of the game, Slone was heated and Holmes was in control. Bottom-line; If a Holmes player was acting out in this manner he would have been given a technical and/or possibly ejected.

Henderson is a great player and even a greater young man. To say the least, he has kept his composure on the floor unlike the players he has shut down. BELL 40; his nickname is now the ERASER. Keep erasing Arrez and bring home the title to NKY.

Which Holmes Bulldog do you begin with???? The Bulldogs will be a lot of fun to watch throughout the next several years.

Did McGraw and Simpson play?

McClendon played one game for TRMS. Unfortunately for the kids sake the AD's voted 7-6 to not allow him to play. Titans beat the Birds by 24. See previous post for more details.

Boys East Games will be played at Sharp on Saturday as follows: 6th grade @ 5:00 TRMS vs. Newport 7th grade @ 6:15 TRMS vs. Sharp 8th grade @ 8:00 Holmes vs. ?? The championship games will be held at CCMS on Sunday according to the above times & grades for the boys.

The coaches grew up in the community and do everything that they can to see that the boys have fun playing. They coach them in a variety of ways to ensure they are successful on and off the court. McClendon is a great kid and will be a huge asset to the team next year. Thanks! Hopefully the Titans will continue to play hard and bring home a winner Thursday.

gryche11..I watched the first 2 games between the Birds and Titans and do believe there is something missing with the Birds based upon this lopsided victory tonight. I have seen several of the Birds in the Armory and don't believe they would ever quit. As far as the Titans go, they have been playing a little more consistent and under control. They must continue to work on both if they want to compete tomorrow night against Sharp on their court. Great season Birds!

7th Grade TRMS Titans defeated the 7th Grade Highlands Bluebirds 46-22. It was reported that Sharp was defeating Newport after the 1st period. It looks as if TRMS and Sharp will face off Thursday evening @ Sharp MS 5:00. The last time they played at Holmes, Sharp defeated TRMS in the final seconds on a 3 pointer. Good Luck to all Teams! 6th Grade TRMS Boys defeated St. Pius and will play Newport @ Newport 5:00. Good Luck Titans!

What will it take to make everyone realize that HOLMES is the real deal? After each victory it seems that everyone/most continue to explain why Boone, Cov Cath, Highlands, Holy Cross, etc. lost the game. The coach didn't do this, this player is hurt, the gym was too big, we had to go to Covington. Sooner or later you will have to applaud the coaching and playing of the HOLMES BULLDOGS! No more excuses...Give credit where credit is due!

spy2008...have you checked their policy out? I have read the policy and even had a copy...if your copy is 3 strikes, you must have a new an updated version. Rules are rules, how they are enforced & followed is the key. I do not agree with giving kids many, many chances, but the adults must remember that they are dealing with young students that have many factors impacting their daily lives that they have zero control over. The policy, if you are referring to the academic rule as I am, is more difficult than the KY High School State Athletic Associations eligibility requirements. Middle School is probably the most difficult decision making time in a kids life w/peer pressure, puberty, girls, boys, etc. and all of a sudden a kid loses the one item he/she feels most comfortable w/because of possibly one bad grade. As stated in earlier post, this is middle school. Who is failing who?

GRYCHE11, that is correct. I would have to assume this has not been followed all season for a handful of teams due to a variety of student factors. It is also my understanding that this is the first year there have been any issues in many, many years revolving around players/participation/etc. It is ironic that the issues/complaints continue to come from the same county district.

What rules? I assume you mean by-laws. This is middle school basketball!

Not a bold statement if you know this young man. I believe this is the best Holmes team in the past 3 years. Sure Hill, Rice, & Jefferson were all very, very talented. Unfortunately they did not take a liking to being coached on how to play the game as a team and/or work hard on both ends of the court. You can have a talented team, if they are not focused as one they begin to fail. The current team works hard off the court and on the court. This is allowing for their success. As far as coaching, David Henley is one of the best, not only as a coach but most importantly as a person.

Unfortunately many kids DO NOT have control over what ADULT decisions are made in their lives and they must go with the flow. A child must attend school in the district that one resides in. This student moved out of that district. The TRMS Administration has nothing to be ashamed of. I can assure you the principal/a former asst. hs coach, makes decisions based upon what is BEST for all kids. One must take the time to look into the situations on an individual basis and do what is best for that child. Unfortunately not all kids learn the same regarding getting an education and/or life lessons. Children of poverty, not indicating this young man is, as many of the kids are in Cov. value things differently than those in the middle class world. This is what many fail to see and believe. That is another post! As stated earlier, this young man will need someone to mentor him, guide him, and be that consistent positive in his life influencing him to take responsibility and developing the belief that getting an education is number one and basketball will be the guide by the side. He is a great kid, going through a few bumps in the road. Adults can't throw their hands up and start taking the only positive aspect from a young mans life and using the old iron fist method. Trust me, that does not work on all kids! That positive/basketball must be used as a tool to teach him! He will be successful in the classroom and outside.

Administrators, in general, look at student records prior to allowing a student to enroll in school to determine placement, eligibility, etc. From experience, most schools have a eligibility requirement regarding the number of classes one can fail, etc. I believe a student should not be kicked off a team if he/she is not performing up to the requirements. This student should be given the opportunity to improve and continue to be a part of the team. When his academics are up to par, participation should be allowed. This TEAM could possibly be the ONLY normal aspect of this students life. My question, did his previous school fail him? Are there other factors playing into his life that the school was not aware of and/or overlooked? To my knowledge this student was not failing 1/2 of his classes, only one. Obviously someone needs to take this kid under their wing, use basketball as a way to build the relationship, mentor him and coach him about life so that education becomes as valuable to him as basketball. I believe this will happen! The TRMS team will accept him due to friendships he has had with those kids while growing up in Covington.
