I think you answered your own questions. Why play schools like Boone County? Because they are the best DIII school and need to continue to set their goals high. What else are they to do, try to beat DIII schools by greater margins?

That is what happens when you leave NKAC D III. It is a tough world out there. Give Ludlow credit, last year everyone ragged on them for playing a "cupcake schedule" so Coach Stamm loses his starting point guard and increases the difficulty of his schedule to the 10th power. With a record of 15-5 so far this season and games against Ryle and Holmes coming up next week no one can say this schedule is easy. Each of the five losses comes against a school not in NKAC D III, and they only have one loss to a small school, Owen County. They should go 5-2 the rest of the way, finishing up the regular season 20-7. Last year they went 23-4 in the regular season, and backed into the Regional and got bounced early. Hopefully this strategy will pay off for them in post season play this year. Kudos to the Lady Panthers for having the guts to play with the big dogs even though they are taking their lumps.

Yes, Funky, as in different from everywhere else. I think the reason why "Alot" of 8th region championships have been won on that court is becuase a lot of them have been played there. Someone has to win. Teams coming into Henry County who only play there once a year always struggle shooting at the open end, and the scoreboard in the middle of the floor has messed up more than one last second shot. If you don't think it is an advantage, ask Coach Gilley. He knows it and takes pride in it.

How did they play, I expected the margin to be greater, but I know Henry County is a tough place to play with the long bus ride and the funky gym.

Congratulations to Coach Wilhoit and the girls of Williamstown. If I am not mistaken, that makes them tied for the three seed in the 32nd District. If they beat Walton-Verona they would have the three seed by themselves. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

It is amazing to me how everyone else can be congratulating a coach for being a class act and citing specific examples of such and you pull out that. Sounds like sour grapes to me. if Williamstown and Coach Wilhoit keep up the good work and keep upsetting teams like Grant and Gallatin even more people will have something to complain about. I guess Coach Wilhoit should just take your comments in stride, it shows he is doing something right or you would not bother bashing him.

As for the pressure, I would think the game plan would be to press them with Gorby being out. Also, Hargett not touching the ball in the fourth seemed a lot like what happened in the fourth against Trimble in the All "A". I wonder if that is by design or just happened in each of the last two games.

Not sure what your definition of a good win is, but I guess a win is a win. Looked to me like Walton did everything in their power to throw this one away. Good thing Dixon hit her free throws down the stretch. Give credit to Grant and their Coach. They never gave up.

but back to the original thread. If you have no hopes of winning the district, what do you use to motivate your team? What goals do you set at this point in the season?? 20+ wins? conference champions?? Beating who knocked you out of the All "A"??? Just wondering what your teams focus on. Or do you begin to play younger kids and get ready for next year?

Exactly. I don't think the small 9th region public schools would lose any sleep over NCC, Holy Cross, and St. Henry opting out of the tournament.

Being a fan of small school basketball, I love the All "A" Classic, but I have seen a lot of teams struggle after the All "A". If a team loses in the All "A" Regional, and doesn't have much of a chance of winning their District Tournament because of the talent level of the big schools, then how does a coach keep them playing hard and improving game after game? I have even heard some coach's say that after the All "A" they start building for next year. Any thoughts??

Hopefully West, Wilhoit, and Stith get to rest a lot and the Demons come out without injury. These types of games can make you nervous.

Walton-Verona Defeated Scott this week by 2 points. Not bad for a small school with only 2 freshmen on the freshmen team.

Walton-Verona by 10+ as long as Hargett plays the entire game. If she gets in foul trouble or gets injured it would be an entirely different game.

I think Dixon just played like a freshmen, and the other girls were playing well enough to win. Sargent, not sure what that was about unless it was just how well the 8th grade guards played. I did see some bench behavior in the second half from some veteran Lady Bearcats who did not see much playing time that made me wonder. Anyone else see it??

I guess the playing time of the young girls will go down now. I was expecting to see one of the young post players begin to see some playing time. Not sure what her name is, but she plays MS and Frosh.

True in international ball, but it is not a technical foul, just a violation. Did it hit the other girl in the face? I have seen that called as a technical, but it was on the inbounds pass, not when saving the ball from going out of bounds.
