I would like to see the big 8th grade girl see some serious varsity playing time. I think her first name is Susan. Coach Wilhoit needs to get her in the gym a lot this summer. She could be their solution to a lack of size at the post and try to earn Knarr's position in the starting five.

When was the last time a 9th Region team won the state tournament. I think the competition in the 8th and the 10th is worthy of making an All Star Team.

Think the lack of post season success had anything to do with it? LC has very high expectations.

Coaches can't stay somewhere for the kids, there is always a new senior class coming up. It might not make it easy, but a coach has to do what is in their and their families best interest. You leave a Catholic school and go to a public school and your pay dramatically increases, your benifits are better, better insurance, better retirement. I don't know if this is why these guys came, but it hardly makes them hired guns. I hope they don't use WV as a stepping stone to bigger and better schools, but if they do, I am glad to have them while they are here. Go Ladycats.

You have got to be kidding me. Loyalty, Loyalty is a two way street and the way things go in the coaching world there are two kinds of coaches, those who have been fired, and those who are going to be. As a coach you would be a fool to pass up an opportunity that you think is better out of loyalty to a school or administration only to be let go sometime in the near future. These coaches have done what is in their best interest and the best interest of their families. If that makes them a hired gunslinger in your eyes, so be it, but don't bash them for not being "loyal".

If this is true and this is official there have to be a lot of coaches in the 8th region who are not happy about it. Maybe not next year, but for years to come watch out for the Ladycats of Walton-Verona. They have good coaches to go with their good players. Hopefully for years to come. Good luck to all involved and good job to WV in landing this duo.

From what I am hearing the parents, players and administration and community are thrilled with the potential new coach. No one wanted to have to complain, but many including the administration new that things were not working out for the program under the other coach. Unfortunately a lot of people's frustrations were vented on BGP (probably not the best thing to do, but it happens). That does not mean that the new coach will not be successful and that the parents, players, fans and administration won't be supportive of the new situation. There is a lot of talent, expectations are high, and we would not want it any other way. If you do not have high expectations for your program and you are not dissappointed when they under-achieve, then I am not sure you are a true fan. Here is wishing the new head coach and assistant coach a long and successful career at WVHS. :thumb:

Good point. Walton-Verona fans get bashed for expressing their concerns on BGP this season. Granted, there were a couple of long threads, including this one. But how many times did they bash the previous coach on here?, or the one before him?, or the one before him? It is not like there has been a pattern over time or something. The fans are just ready for things to go in the right direction. What makes you think there is going to be a problem with the next coach?? If they hire who I have heard, I think most fans and parents will be very pleased and very supportive.

Blue Chip and the Rick Bolus camp at Georgetown are what they are. They are exposure camps. Unfortunately they are necessary to go to to get your name on lists for potential recruiters, but if you think you are going to go and get some world class instruction you are wrong. What you really get is a chance to play against good players from around the state and get your name on a college mailing list or two. Lots of games, very little instruction. IMO the best camps for girls your daughter's age/level to improve their game are the position specific camps offered at many of the colleges. These are different from the massive day camps that target younger players. They are specifically designed for high school girls, and some of them require a high school coach's recommendation. I believe Coach Johnson at Georgetown offers a post, perimeter, and point guard camp, and Coach Winstel at NKU might offer them as well. I am not saying the Blue Chip type camps are bad. They serve a purpose, and as long as you are clear on what you are paying for, maybe you should go to both types.

That is what I heard as well. I am sure Coach Buerger will enjoy spending more time with her daughter, but I do not think that was the driving force behind her decision.

Yes, but I believe that is true everywhere. They just need to hire a quality person and support them and watch the program flourish.

Here is what coaches out there should care about: 1. WV is loaded with young talent. 2. Realistically they could start a Sophomore, two freshmen, and two 8th graders next year. 3. Their current Freshmen, 8th, 7th, 6th, 5th, 4th, 3rd, and 2nd grade girls teams have a combined record of somewhere around 200 wins and maybe 20 losses this season. 4. They have an incredible feeder system in place for a school of their size. 5. They are in the 8th region (No Private Schools) 6. They can challenge to win their conference every year 7. They can challenge to win the 8th Region All A every year 8. They should advance to the Regional Tournament every year 9. And down the road, with the right coach, could Challenge to win the 8th Region out right, a first for WV. Yes, Expectations for success are high, and yes things have not gone well recently, but they have a rich tradition and are looking for someone to take the helm and right the ship. I just hope they find a great coach and that he/she is supported by the administration. Winning solves a lot of problems.

Who are you talking about?? The most desired coach for the position is Dan Sullivan, and he is apparently not an option because he is an administrator. With him out of the picture it appears wide open. Who is this "she" you are talking about??

I hear he is up for the principal's job at the elementary. Wonder if that would make him on the same level as Dan.

And an outstanding coach who has dedicated a lot of his time to the success of WV athletics. If he is interested in the job, the administration would be foolish to not hire him. I would hate to see them make their third mistake involving coaches.

Most schools in Northern Kentucky are in the NKAC, which sets a good part of their schedule. Along with this when you factor in district games for seeding, and a few tournaments most schools don't really have much flexibility in their schedule. If you are going to pick up another school, odds are you want to get someone who you might run into somewhere down the line, or who will at least vote for your team or your players for post season awards. I personally see no benefit in playing a school from another state unless it is in a tournament.
