This subject is probably Taboo, but I will throw it out there anyway.....

with Mount Notre Dame and Lakota West advancing to the Ohio DI state championship game for tomorrow, it got me wondering the major difference between SW Ohio girls basketball and NKY girls basketball. And there are so many schools that are within or around the Interstate 275 loop. I know Ryle, Boone County, and Notre Dame played some crossover games, but why doesn't it happen more? It is amazing how an area so close is so different. Why is it so different? Why don't some of the good NKY teams play the good Ohio teams to get better instead of scheduling games that are going to be 30 point blowouts that gain them nothing? Just curious......I am a Buckeye turning Wildcat just curious that is all.....

Notre Dame plays about five or six Ohio teams towards the beginning of the season and scrimmages Cincinnati Mercy every year.

Because those school are so large and have several girls to choose from. It would be very hard for the best NKY teams to play with those teams.

I don't mean playing Mt. Notre Dame or Lakota West. Just teams around the 275 loop. Dayton, Newport, Bellevue, Lloyd, and the smaller schools would be competitive with Deer Park, Norword, St. Bernard, and Finneytown. They would be close and competitve. Some of the bigger schools in KY could play Madeira (DIII), Reading (DIII), Mariemont (DIII), Seven Hills (DIV), Milford (DI), Turpin (DII), Amelia (DI), Northwest (DI), McNicholas (DII), Purcell Marian (DIII), Seton (DI), McAuley (DI) and Indian Hill (DII). All of those are competitve teams and games.

 

And as far as all the schools in Ohio being bigger, that isn't the case. Oak Hills has 3000 students in their high school. But most are between 400-1300. Same as the NKY schools.....

Most schools in Northern Kentucky are in the NKAC, which sets a good part of their schedule. Along with this when you factor in district games for seeding, and a few tournaments most schools don't really have much flexibility in their schedule. If you are going to pick up another school, odds are you want to get someone who you might run into somewhere down the line, or who will at least vote for your team or your players for post season awards.

 

I personally see no benefit in playing a school from another state unless it is in a tournament.

I understand that with the NKAC taking up a big chunk of scheduling. I still would think if I was coaching at some of those smaller schools, I would rather schedule a more competitive game across the river than a Conner, Boone County, Holmes, and so forth....

 

With the way that the Greater Cincinnati area dominate the Ohio State tournaments, you would think that there would be more interstate rivalry's and competitions. I know Football does and it is a big success for all of them....
