Can anyone please explain why the entire team was composed of ONLY 9th region players? I know of at least three girls from regions other than the 9th who had MUCH better stats than some of The Enquirer's "All-Stars." Seems like it should be called "10th Region All-Stars" instead of "Northern Kentucky's All-Stars."

Show me "Northern Kentucky" on a map....there is no definitive outline of what it is. No matter where you stop, the next school outside of that boundary will complain! Not that you are complaining, but where is the boundary? The Enquirer must think Region 9.

Although Chelsea Tolliver is from the 8th Region, you are correct. The Enquirer will not go outside of the 9th Region much at all to cover what we call "Northern Kentucky".

I think Lauren Hargett should have made this team (not just Honorable Mention). She had big numbers and lead WV to the Regional Semi's. Yes, WV is in the 8th Region but so is SK. Not sure why she only got Honorable Mention. :confused:

There are 8th & 10th region players listed as Honorable mention selections so the Enquirer doesn't appear to be excluding those players because they are not in the 9th. And as mentioned, Tolliver made the First Team.

The competition they play night-in & night-out is a huge factor. If some of the selected players were playing on less talented teams, playing lesser competition, and were the main "go-to" player every game...their statistics would no doubt increase "big-time".

 

Sometimes statistics are overrated because a player brings so much to the table that cannot be measured on paper.

 

There are 100's of stories, but I know a player across the bridge that just committed to a solid mid-major D1 college as a junior. She averages 4pts and 2 assists per game. I'm sure she is happy no one is judging her performance based on statistics.

When was the last time a 9th Region team won the state tournament. I think the competition in the 8th and the 10th is worthy of making an All Star Team.

I think that is exactly the point IMO- none of the teams from the 8/9 or 10th regions have won state and are comparable in talent. There are stronger and weaker teams in each region. So with that being said, why are there so many players with the exception of Tolliver (8th) from the 9th region listed with a few exceptions with the honarble mentions?

 

My take is that it is more of a "local NKY teams top players list" which is the 9th region primarily with a few 8/10 region teams that are within striking distance so they grabbed a few honorable mention votes.

 

Where exactly do the boundries cut off when consdiering what is NKY or not....just curious!

Looks to me like it is the schools in Boone, Kenton and Campbell counties. Only schools not mentioned is Calvary C, Silver Grove, Dayton, Lloyd, Newport and Heritage. Heritage didn't have a team this year.

 

Anyone have any names of players who should have been on the list but are not? Just curious.

There are alot of weaker teams in 8th, but there are alot of those in the 9th also. I can tell you one thing for sure, Hargett is first team. She scored in the 20's against Oldham and in the middle 30's against Anderson Co. Anderson can play with any team in 9th night in night out, they beat South Oldham with ease. Ithink the 9th region champion might know about Anderson co.

FYI- Anderson beat South Oldham by 1 point on a last second shot so it was by no means an easy win for them. Also note, South Oldham beat both Conner and Highlands who I think beat Simon Kenton as well. The top teams in both regions are comparable- Hargett is a quality player.
