Interesting observation. I am not a parent of anyone on the team, but I know that there are people there that I do not want to sit by because I would have to worry about everything I said. Maybe some of the parents feel that way as well.

It drives me crazy when parents yell at their kids to "put it in the hole" or "catch the ball" or anything like that. It is not like they are trying to miss their shots or not catch the ball on purpose and I am sure having mom or dad yell at them is not helping. Another pet pieve is when the opponents fans clap when the other team makes a mistake due in no part to what their team did. A girl from the other team makes a bad pass and throws the ball out of bounds and the other teams fans applaude wildly like their team just did something great. Just goes right thru me.

The JV Coach from Williamstown had to wear a pair of high tops the other day with her dress clothes. Not sure why, but it was a one time thing. Had to give her grief about it.

:laugh: I will assume you are being sarcastic here. 14-12 on their way to .500 again this year is no one's idea of success I couldn't agree more, but I believe that the leadership comes from the top down. A JV coach has an important role to play, but being the leader of the program is not it. Any JV coach thrust into having to coach the varsity team due to the head coach being out is in a lose-lose situation. If they stick with the head coach's game plan and lose, everyone will blame the JV coach, if they deviate from the plan and win, are they showing the head coach up? If they deviate from the plan and lose, did they go rogue and cost their team the game. Given the circumstances I feel bad for Coach Burger.

I guess I should have said there is not difference between a player control foul and any other offensive foul as it relates to shooting the bonus.

Again, you saw a different game than I did. Dixon 18 points 17 rebounds. That is not getting "eaten-up" by anyone. I went to the WV game expecting to see this great player (Moss) that everyone has been telling me about. I watched, I thought she was a solid varsity player, and for an 8th grader that is quite an accomplishment, but I was not blown away. Maybe it was because they rolled on WV and she did not have to be spectacular. The one thing she did that impressed me was her court vision. She needs to work on her ball handling a great deal. she is a good passer and has adequate low post skills, but nothing impressive. Her being left handed gives her a huge advantage and I am sure she will be a player to watch down the road. BUT, right now, I would rather have Dixon on my team. She is stronger, runs the floor better, works harder on defense. She finishes well around the basket as does Moss, but has far superior post moves. Again, this is based on the WV game. I have seen Dixon play several times, but this was my first time watching Moss. Maybe it is because of all of the hype I was expecting more., maybe it was because the game was a blow out. I will have to watch her play more.

Not sure what you mean by yor last example - but here is what happens. Used to be that a player control foul resulted in no bonus being shot, but the rest of the offensive fouls (i.e. illegal screens, etc.) did result in a bonus being shot. Now the rule states that all fouls committed by the offense are non-bonus shooting fouls. Yes, they still have to be the offense which means they have to be in posession of the ball, but if they are, and they commit a foul, no one will be shooting the bonus.

Per the rules, after a shot and before a rebound, no one has posession of the ball, so there is no offense or defense, so this would result in a bonus situation. A better example would be O1 has the ball and dribbles off of an illegal screen set by O2. D1 is fouled and her team is in the bonus. She does not get to shoot the bonus, but instead her team would receive the ball out of bounds. (and the uneducated parents yell at the refs from the stands that their kid should be shooting the bonus.)

Not sure if you are arguing against me or with me. Are you saying the WV coaching staff has done a good job of getting the younger girls some experience and in getting them ready for the varsity level or not. I am saying the quality playing time Dixon, Ginn, and Cheesman have gotten at the varsity level and JV for Ginna nd Cheesman this season when all of the pressure was not on them will help pay off down the road. And as far as Dixon getting "eaten-up" down low by Moss, I am not sure you saw the same game I did. It appeared to me that Dixon had Moss under control, theat the weak side post rotated over to help, and that the weak side wing did not rotate to the weak side low post and Moss found the open man. Seems like a problem in the defensive rotation and for the weak side wing, not a question of Moss "eating-up" Dixon. Actually I think that Dixon outscored Moss 18-12, but I could be mistaken.

If the offense has posession of the ball and commits a foul it does not result in shooting the bonus for the defensive team. I cannot quote you chapter and verse, but I guarantee you that is the rule. It was changed several years back and is the perfect example of parents yealling at the officials when they are using rules from 15-20 years ago when they played.

Are you trying to be funny?:laugh: There are no player control fouls on the offensive end anymore. All offensive fouls result in a non-bonus shooting violation. Maybe you are the one I keep hearing yell?

They have gotten their 8th graders quality varsity and JV minutes knowing that they will have to step up and fill some big shoes next season. The have gotten Dixon (a freshmen) quality time so she could develop as a player and a leader of the team. i like that they have moved up the quality 7th and 8th graders to the freshmen level to get them ready. At least they are looking towards the future as far as playing time goes. If you want to bash their X's and O's, I might agree with you, but at least the kids they will have to count on next year and for years to come are getting experience while they are playing with quality (Hargett).

Agreed, but coaches have to try to convince their players they have a chance.

Or you can just realize that everyone, everywhere, at every level thinks that the officiating is bad and deal with it. Coaches have scratches to get rid of officials who they think are the worst or they have developed a personality conflict with.

Coach wilhoit ought to pull out the video of that game and show highlights to his team to get them ready. Anything can happen, that is why they play the games.

With the draw that W-town got in the districts (SK because of a coin toss) I hope they play well against Carroll. These girls have improved a lot over the course of this year and deserve to finish on a high note.

I think that is a little harsh. Coach Burger, the JV Coach, has a lot of experience and knows the game. She also seems to be a very loyal person. Loyal to her players and to the head coach. I am sure she is not going to do anything to make the head coach look bad. She is not going to deviate to far from the system that is in place when she is filling in for coach Rosen. I am sure she did her best implementing the offensive and defensive gameplans that were put in place throughout the week by Rosen. Just because she is the bench coach does not mean that she is in complete control of every aspect of the game. As far as the JV success goes. I think they have done a nice job of getting girls ready to play next year. Isn't that the goal of the JV coach/team. I didn't know that wins and losses at the JV level were the be all and end all of high school basketball.

What happened to Heeger and Sargent? They have been playing well lately and they were not on your list. Also, was Coach Rosen back from her illness??

Re-match of the All "A" game that knocked WV out. Will WV get revenge tomorrow night or is Trimble just too good and too balanced for WV to beat? I say WV in a close one.
