What happened to Heeger and Sargent? They have been playing well lately and they were not on your list.

Also, was Coach Rosen back from her illness??

Good questions. Ryle is tough but I expected this one to be closer.

Rosen was still out due to illness.

And Heeger only shot two shot's tonight. Passes were either tipped or high passes, which made it hard for Heeger and Sargent to catch and shoot the ball, because by the time the ball got to them, their girl was already on them.

Walton needs to learn how to give a hard chest pass and learn how to put someone in the middle on a press break. Those two things killed Walton tonight! Walton could have hung in with Ryle tonight, but Walton just couldn't make good solid passes to people.

But Ryle did play good tonight. Moss impressed me with her shooting ability and passing. Will be a good player coming up in the next few years!

Does the loss (the last 2) have anything to do with Coach Rosen being out. Who filled in for her?

Coach Rosen was not there. Walton would have still probably lost, but maybe not by 27 points. The JV (coach) stepped up to coach the varsity. From this point on any chance Walton had was now gone. PITIFUL!

What do you mean? Who do they play in the district?

Jeanie I agree with your comment on the passing and having someone in the middle on the press break. The fill-in coach (JV) addressed that issue several times throughout the game but had to continually tell the players to do those things over and over. Doesn't the JV coach have a winning record this season? I was impressed with Walton's JV kids and their play against Ryle's JV kids.

Getting someone in the middle of a press break should happen on October the 15th, not at the end of February when there is about two games left in the season. Last I checked the JV coach has been there about ten years, I think at most schools this would be enough time to get someone in the middle against a press. Not to mention, WV most of the JV game played with three yes THREE post players in the game against a pressing Ryle. It dosen't take a rocket scientist to know that when you are being pressed ball handling is a must. As far as WV playing a good game against Ryle, I don't consider losing a game that you probably could of had a chance of winning a good game. Not to mention Ryle's two best eighth graders Moss, Crittenden, and one ninth grader play only varsity. And yes the JV coach has a winning record, but this is mainly do to two things, one the quality of players that are coming through their program (not developed by the WV coaches). And two, the weak schedule played against other small schools where most of the opponents young talent is playing varsity. Nothing against other schools, but with the talented younger players WV has right now I think Stevie Wonder could of had a winning record for the WV JV.

I think that is a little harsh. Coach Burger, the JV Coach, has a lot of experience and knows the game. She also seems to be a very loyal person. Loyal to her players and to the head coach. I am sure she is not going to do anything to make the head coach look bad. She is not going to deviate to far from the system that is in place when she is filling in for coach Rosen. I am sure she did her best implementing the offensive and defensive gameplans that were put in place throughout the week by Rosen. Just because she is the bench coach does not mean that she is in complete control of every aspect of the game.

As far as the JV success goes. I think they have done a nice job of getting girls ready to play next year. Isn't that the goal of the JV coach/team. I didn't know that wins and losses at the JV level were the be all and end all of high school basketball.

Really???

Really???

They have gotten their 8th graders quality varsity and JV minutes knowing that they will have to step up and fill some big shoes next season. The have gotten Dixon (a freshmen) quality time so she could develop as a player and a leader of the team. i like that they have moved up the quality 7th and 8th graders to the freshmen level to get them ready. At least they are looking towards the future as far as playing time goes. If you want to bash their X's and O's, I might agree with you, but at least the kids they will have to count on next year and for years to come are getting experience while they are playing with quality (Hargett).

I'm not one who cares about "age" or "grade" in basketball, but honestly, from watching a lot of Walton basketball, I think JV basketball helps a player a lot more than just jumping to varsity. The only players that really can just jump over JV are the girls/boys that are like un-real. Like a Moss from Ryle, etc. The Walton girls need to develop that young talent and get ready when they're stronger for the next level. For example, against Ryle, Dixon got eaten up down-low by Moss. Even though Moss is younger than Dixon, she plays and is strong like a Senior athlete. I understand that Walton really didn't have a choice of moving Dixon up to varsity, and i agree with it, and very glad she does start. But the girls are young. I know they could play solid minutes down at the JV level and still play a whole varsity game. I know many girls/guys do it. For the younger guards, Cheesmen and Ginn have done good in varsity games. They do good against the Williamstown's etc. but if you notice when Walton played SK and Holy Cross they got beat around, they need more time. I like how they go into the varsity game and spark things up, which is needed, and glad, but sometimes I think this hurts the girls, more than gets them ready for years to come.

And you say playing with quality (Hargett), well sure Hargett is a great player. One best around here, agree 100 percent, but her teammates would start for a lot of teams too. They make Hargett even better. Examples: Dixon handles the low post great for a freshmen so other teams can't leave her to help on Hargett. Heeger, a great 3 point shooter, they can't help off her when Hargett drives, because she can hit many three's. Sargent is able to hit from the outside and can drive to the basket. They help Hargett just as much as Hargett helps the team. Just letting you know if you missed that this season!

Not sure if you are arguing against me or with me. Are you saying the WV coaching staff has done a good job of getting the younger girls some experience and in getting them ready for the varsity level or not. I am saying the quality playing time Dixon, Ginn, and Cheesman have gotten at the varsity level and JV for Ginna nd Cheesman this season when all of the pressure was not on them will help pay off down the road.

And as far as Dixon getting "eaten-up" down low by Moss, I am not sure you saw the same game I did. It appeared to me that Dixon had Moss under control, theat the weak side post rotated over to help, and that the weak side wing did not rotate to the weak side low post and Moss found the open man. Seems like a problem in the defensive rotation and for the weak side wing, not a question of Moss "eating-up" Dixon. Actually I think that Dixon outscored Moss 18-12, but I could be mistaken.

Dixon is a great down low player. I've been saying that all year. She probably helped Walton the most from any girl this season, IMO. And yes, Moss didn't score as much, but Moss did a lot more than just score for Ryle. She played solid "D" on Dixon, making her miss many many lay-ups, and rebounding the ball a lot over WV players. She (Moss) will be a force in a few years in NKY. Moss made pretty much every shot she took and could have scored at will, but just played unselfish basketball, which is a great quality in a young player to have, but she had her way in this game. Dixon seems to dribble down the floor and miss-handle the ball, which results in TO's.

Side Note: Excited to see how Dixon plays in the next few years! She will be special too! Anyone know Walton's rebounding record?? Think Dixon could catch it?

And for Walton's weak side rotation, that's hard to do in a man to man "D" It's hard for somone to drop that low so quickly and even harder for girls to do it. All I am saying is that you could tell that Moss was above the rest. She is special player.:jump:
