Coach Hard

I'd like to see them continue implimenting the Pistol formation. Kinda still something not a lot of folks are used to seeing, and I'm a fan of the Nevada Wolf Pack, so it was fun for me to watch it at the state championships this past season.

Roy, I apologize then...I didn't realize that Stonebreaker had been ran off. I had just heard he resigned. My comment was out of line, but unknowingly out of line. How does Garrard have "Legends"? Much less those that can have such a negative impact on the program. Has Garrard ever won state? Granted they've had some really tough teams. It is a shame that any program has that kind of support. Positive support is somthing you can't put a price on, but negative support is like a cancer. Those guys should be ashamed of themselves. I will see Dunbar this year (see them at least once a year, living in the area), I plan on catching a Garrard game as well. Good Luck to both as well.

Roy, I don't know how big of a Stonebreaker fan I'd be if I were you. The Dunbar job has been posted quite a while. He dumped Garrard as the head, to be an assistant at PLD. I would take that as a slap in the face if I were a Garrard fan (which I am). I wouldn't travel to Dunbar just to watch them underacheive another year. Stay at home and embrace the new guy, Scenters. Meet the coach some day...you won't be disappointed. He's a real humble and balanced person. Has excellent priorities, and actually stands behind them and believes in them. Haven't know Coach Scenters for very long, but as far as the coaching world is concerned, he is a grade A class act. He will bring good football back to Garrard.

Tim Couch without a doubt was the best I've ever actually seen. Keep it all in perspective like it has been said before. How many other kids single handed other players have had such an impact on a team and a state during their time? He was already a legend before college. Now granted NFL didn't work out so well, and that could be an entirely different thread, but if we're looking at high school players, while in high school...I go Couch all the way. I'd have to give some props to Derek Homer also. Played against him, he was one tough guy, but not in the class of greatest ever. Maybe one of the top 10 Running backs though.

I apologize. There was a huge lag issue on the CPU when I tried to post. Now that I've read the Band issue stuff...man that just comes down to priorities. The new guy has to make that clear from the start. Will it be band or football? Honestly, you can't do both and put everything you've got into them. I'm not going to bash band. They work hard, I don't think that can ever really be questioned. But so do football players. I've had the same conversation with one of my sons. It had to be wrestling or basketball. When they fall in the same season, you just can't do both. I live fairly close to Paris. I'd have to agree, I think it would be a nice place to live, and I honestly feel that for the kids...you can't beat coming up through a 1A school system. All the teachers get to really know you, the football team (just my opinion here, so be nice) is a much closer group, and playing time tends to be greater with the smaller schools. Not a lot of kids coming through 6A school systems can claim that they started 4 years of Varsity ball. You can't beat playing under Friday night lights, and myself and 2 other guys that went to school with me in a 1A school had the wonderful opportunity to do so. Sure you take your lumps, but by the time we were seniors, 3 of us were 4 year starters, 4 were 3 year guys, and 3 were 2 year starters. That works great for closeness and leadership. My point being, I'll really be pulling for Paris. I hope they can find themselves making an impact in playoffs soon...unless of course they play Campbellsville High School.

Man, I remember when I played, Paris was a power. Tough place to go into and try to win. I really hope this program can get on track soon. I have a special place in my heart for 1A schools like my alma mater. I also hope the whole band issue isn't as bad as it sounds. Take that out of the equation and I would place it on my top 10 of places I would love to be the head coach at some day.

Not an impressive resume? At Central he's been a part of a consistent winner, working with some of the more respected coaches in the state. Hazard's head, Rains at LCA, Berea's Head, and a couple of other guys I'm forgetting have all been a part of Central's staff at sometime. I think Scenters is coming from a great pedigree. Every head coach, had to start somewhere, and I would venture to say that kypride has never spoken to Coach Scenters. Garrard has picked up a gem. He's got the knowledge, the drive, and I've heard he would be surrounding himself with a great group of young and hungry coaches, that will surely turn things around at Garrard. Congratulations Coach Scenters!!!! I'm sure you're excited and anxious to get started.

I've only seen Poynter and Scenters names legitimately come up for the Madison Southern job and now this one. I would hardly call these two guys "also ran". Why wouldn't Scenters apply? Garrard and Madison share a border....he's looking to become a head coach some day. If I were him I'd apply for this one as well. As for Poynter, what's wrong with a guy looking at some other opportunities. Rasputin, I think you may be a little off topic here. Garrard's a good job, they ARE getting good candidates.

Son of Bear, thanks for the clarification, I couldn't remember if Coldiron was a junior or senior this past season. I think picking one QB and sticking with them rather than rotating, could allow for the offense to find a stronger and more consistent rythm and identity.

Not sure who the QB will be. From my observations, Central needs to find more consistency on defense. They had some trouble stopping the running game of teams like Scott and I think Clark counties. Offensively, they should still have a good core group of lineman, including the Warford kid, who is huge and can really move for his size. Any other opinions??

Now I'm confused...they only got fined $1000? But got probation....did LCA (with their $13000 fine) get probation?

That highest scoring night against Bracken would personify everything that is wrong about sportsmanship. Man, nobody should have to take a beating that bad, unless it was payback from one they dealt out.

I'm going to say Campbellsville defeating Bardstown in 1997. It clinched the first district title since the 80s, and was the first time (correct me if I'm wrong) that a Campbellsville team defeated Bardstown since the 70s.

Sorry guys, didn't mean to stir one up. I was just going over the entire thread and mentioning the names that had been mentioned without being shot down. I don't know Cooper at all. I do however know Mark Scenters. I got the chance to sit down and talk with him at the Nike Coach of the Year clinic in Louisville, over the weekend. Great "football" guy. I hope to see him get a head spot somewhere. He is a real gentleman, and a good teacher of the game. He hasn't done D coordinator for a while, but I knew he used to call the D at Madison Central for a while, and I wanted to pick his brain. Great guy!

Well I think a Cooper was on this list earlier as well. Looks like Mark Scenters would be a good candidate. Anyone know if he has applied for it?? I'd take Cooper or Scenters over Bill Curry:laugh:

Well, that's great. The wait continues. And Ram, I don't think you were stirring the pot at all. I understand your point, however, and this may just be me, but if I were applying and interviewing for a position, I would have already considered all of those issues like office, coaches, etc., beforehand. Honestly though, from experience, I never really had any kind of wiggle room to negotiate. If the applicant has that ability, and perhaps it is just to negotiate a better college deal like stated earlier, more power to him.

I agree Trees. That's like the shananigans that is going on at Scott High. Why would people interview, if they didn't want the job? What other profession does this happen in? Lawfirm Interview: Applicant: "I will work hard and be a productive member of the firm..." Firm: "Okay, son, welcome to the firm. The job is yours...." Applicant: "uhhh...well, actually....let me get back with you on that one... Yeah, long and drawn out, but I think I made my point.

Looks like everyone getting out for snow has slowed this one down. I can't believe coaches/teachers would be doing this during a work day....shame, shame....hahahhaha

That's what I was thinking, but wasn't sure. Thanks Hard Charger. CrumJr, sorry brother, but that is about as mediocre...actually, statistically sub mediocre as it gets.

Just curious, what was Carter's overall record at Southern??
