I agree that wrestling is growing. I feel like, that by the time my daughter (who's 2) hits the high school level, girls wrestling may be as popular or acceptable as them playing soccer or basketball.

I strongly agree with you E-Boost77!!! I fear that too many coaches view some places as stepping stones. Commitment and time will breed success. 3 years is a ridiculous timeline to have someone turn a program around. Especially one with that track record. I would think with their lack of success, it would take in the neighborhood of 6 years. Think about it, that would be a 7th grade classes working their way through middle school under that coaches program/system, then 4 years of high school. Then, you'd start seeing if they were worth their title. Even better, 10 years, so that you can see that youth league time kick in. Granted, I wouldn't expect any county or district to be that patient, but I wouldn't think 6 years would be unreasonable.

I hate to hear they had someone who was committed, just not very successful. Maybe Scott has earned some of the delay. I was just stating what I would do in the situation.

Anybody that is coaching high school football for the money has other issues. Look, I wouldn't know the guy if I saw him, so I won't judge him. However, I'm just saying if I were someone involved in the hiring process at Scott, soon as he started backpedaling, I'd tell him the classic line, "We've decided to take the program another direction." Think about it guys, it is like a footbal coach going after the school stud b-ball player, and he is indecisive...that's not the kind of kid or coach you want in your program. You need full commitment, not being 2nd choice.

Ob7footballfan, you seem to be a insider on the Southern situation. What players will Southern have returning for next year? What would you expect as some possibilities from their lineup?

Sounds like Cambell is playing a little coy with Scott. I bet you he is waiting around to see how other places he's going after pan out. I've heard his name for the Southern spot. If I were Scott, I wouldn't appreciate interviewing a guy, then offering him the job that he applied for, just to have him drag his feet on it. That would be somewhat of a red flag to me on his committment. If you don't want a job, don't apply...

This is SUPPOSED to be about football at Madison Southern, not Basketball....just kidding. I am curious...with the apparent lack of success last year with the Franklin system at Madison Southern, do you think they would go with a spread style coach, or some other system? I feel like you gotta match your system to what will make your kids the most successful. Don't know if MS has the athletes for their previous year's offense... Just food for thought that we could debate about until they make their decision and this one gets closed.

That's got to be a serious disappointment for Clay, that kid put up some eye-popping numbers a couple of years ago.... So it seems like from my perspective the Southern spot and the Harlan county spot has gotten the most attention and ruckus going. The Scott job has caused quite a stir as well. I hope they given one of these assistant coaches that have been mentioned, their shot. I feel like 3 of them are really wanting this one, and I hope the best choice really is made.

You'd figure he'd want to stay around with that stud QB. Is the kid still there? Wasn't he like the untouchable QB the 2006 season? Anway, Feb. is rolling around, and that is supposed to be interview time, from what I've heard, so we'll finally be able to put this one to rest. It has been fun speculating though.

I played against Derek Homer of Ft. Knox. Man, that kid was legit. Saw him in basketball later in the year, and he was dunking the ball. For a guy that height, it was impressive. Great athlete!!!

That must be exciting for the whole school, staff, coaches, players, and parents. I hope they can find some success. I know sometimes those new programs tend to struggle at first. I wish the best to the Walton Verona crew.

As far as a non-Beechwood or LCA pick, I've got my darkhorse (Campbellsville), but Hazard looks really, really good. I can't remember the kids name, but the HUGE wide reciever they had looks to have a tremendous upside. If I'm not mistaken, wasn't he just a sophmore this past season? If that is true, and they can replace the 3 or starters, they should walk through their district and make their way back to LCA again. They were very athletic, and what I really loved about them was the fan support. I had never been to a Hazard game, or even seen them play in person until this year. I went and watched them against LCA and I have to say...WOW!!! That community is behind that program. Divadawg is definitely not the only barking GO DAWGS down their way. With that kind of support, the possibilities are endless. I hope they do well...until they run into Campbellsville...haha

This is off topic guys, but I've got to say this....I am by no means a private school guy. On game nights, you could easily say I'm REALLY against it. But this forum has got to move beyond bashing the LCA's of the world every time a good topic like this comes up. Let it go...move on...or simply just use it for a topic related to that content. Now back to the topic...I have a dark horse pick. I think Campbellsville will make a very strong run in the playoffs, possibly to the regional finals again, or even beyond. They were very young last year, but were big, strong, and fast. Probably the biggest (size wise) team C-ville has ever had. If they can find an effective replacment for RB Shumari Bridgewater, they could make a real impact. Don't go by their predistrict schedule/record. Coach Wiseman likes to play some tough non district games, that they might not quite be ready for.

Well, I guess regardless of our opinions on the topic, I think Coach Rains has done the right thing with this letter. ParisPride makes a point, but we can only take people on their word. Maybe he knew, maybe he didn't...either way it doesn't matter, the program has the stain on it from all of this. It will continue to add fuel to the debate. I think at this point, ALL of the "LCA" posts should be kept to the PUBLIC VS. PRIVATE forum. Basically folks, that is all we're doing here is debating that aspect of what should be done in the overall state approach to that issue.

As many people have misconceptions that a spread can't run, so to do people who are not as well versed in the double wing have misconceptions of it. True spread and true double wing guys will never see eye to eye on philosphies. But that is what makes football so fun. Different styles, personalities, backgrounds, and athletes get to match wits and strengthe beat the other. I love playing against spread teams...it becomes a battle of wills and style.

I like the Double Wing because I think it gives you more out of less athletes. Outnumbering someone at the point of attack, misdirection, and being able to bunch the defense up to burn them when you do throw it is an advantage. Look at the success Estill county had with it this year. They don't have blinding speed or super strong linemen, but they put some serious yardage on the board with what they had. Plus, if your area just has that kind of kid -- scrappy and tough -- I think you can be very effective. Now if you have the speed and hands, there are plenty of other choices out there. But the double wing lessens the decision making for most positions as well. It is assignment football, that can be very effective with only a few plays: Power(sometimes called toss), Counter, Sweep, Trap, and Wedge. All very easy to teach and learn. I think the only hard part to it is selling people on it because it does look unconventional. In reality, it is kind of a throwback to the old days!

Oh I would agree. Being close to your family (especially when you're a grandpa) could cause you to make a move like that. On the challenge of a new program, it could be true that he may want to do that, I don't know. I do know, some coaches are made that way. To quote my old coach, when I asked him why he was looking to going to a new school, he said: "I'd rather be rolling my sleeves up and building, than staying in one place maintaining..."
