Your team's biggest win EVER!

Featured Replies

I am curious to know what you consider to be your favorite team's biggest win EVER! It could be either a regular season or postseason win. Please be sure to explain why it is that you consider it your team's biggest win EVER! If you can't pick just one, then by all means list a few!

For Highlands, I am sure that several games will come to mind among the Bluebird faithful. Here are some of my thoughts...

HHS vs. CCH in the 1982 playoffs... I have been told that one of the game officials for this contest later remarked that it was the finest HS football game he ever officiated, due to the high level of quality among the two teams. Both teams were undoubtedly very good, and HHS won and went on to win the state title at 15-0 (and the program's first-ever national ranking). Both the regular season game and the playoff game between these 2 finished with a final score of 13-7 HHS. No team that year played HHS any closer (score-wise) than CCH did.

HHS vs. Boyle County in the 2004 Class AAA state championship... the game was not pretty (many mistakes by both teams), and of course there was the Mitchell controversy surrounding the game, but this 22-6 win ended Boyle County's amazing run of 5 straight state titles (the last 3 being Class AAA titles). At that time, it was really looking as if Highlands may have been getting knocked off the Class AAA "perch" by Boyle County, and HHS' win reversed this trend.

Another highlight game is probably the 2000 HHS vs. Trinity game, which HHS won fairly handily. This was big, just because of the fact that HHS and Trinity are probably the two most notable football programs in the state, and they've only played twice (each team has won one).

At Ludlow I believe it would have to be the win over Heath in the 1975 Class A state championship game. The only state title we've won in football.

Lawrence County - 1997 - LC snaps Breathitt County's 42-game winning streak in Louisa.

Bellevue as of lately would have to be the 05' season when we beat Beechwood. It was a great game all the way til the end when Bellevue was in the victory formation.

To me the biggest win in Boyle's history is the playoff win over Danville (I think was 95 or 96). This was the win that I believe broke the big streak that Danville had over Boyle for close to 20 years, and took that Monkey off Boyle's back. This also was the game that placed Boyle on team to watch list in the mid 90's, and everybody knows what happened 1999-2005.

Rockcastle County- this is all opinion because Rockcastle has had some big wins.

#1- Rockcastle defeats Covington Catholic on November 24th IN COVINGTON by a FIELD GOAL to advance to the State Finals in football.

#2- 2005 baseball team defeats Corbin AT Corbin. This was Corbin's ONLY regional loss that season on their way to a 13th region title. They were awesome and I was just happy to win because it was Corbin.

Those are purely my opinion.

PS- Not to give the Highlands fans any more pride but the 40-point win over Highlands in the State-Semi's was pretty sweet as well :D I honestly wonder how many teams have beaten Highlands by that big of a margin, expecially in the playoffs. I take it back, THAT was the 2nd biggest win ever.

The 39-point loss that HHS suffered at Rockcastle County (final score: 45-6) in 2002 was HHS' most lopsided playoff loss, I believe. The fact that it occurred during the state semifinal playoff game, and that HHS had knocked off a solid LexCath team the previous week makes that RC win especially impressive, in my opinion. Also, remember that just 2 years earlier, HHS had killed RC in the playoffs... I think that perhaps you should consider this win Rockcastle County's biggest all-time!!!!

I would if it wasn't for the fact that the Covington Catholic win sent us to the State Finals for the first time EVER. But the Highlands game is 1A. Also, look how good that win over Rockcastle made Boyle county look that year. Highlands beats LexCath, we kill Highlands, Boyle kills Rockcastle

I think the biggest win would have to be the win over CovCath in the semi-finals and then the #2 would be the win over HHS.

The only reaosn why I say the CovCath win was bigger was because it was the first time a Rockcastle County team had won a state-semifinal game in any sport.

As for the the baseball one, how about we just make a thread over there and we can discuss that sport in it's own thread? I've got some bigger games than the one mentioned above for Rockcastle County.

This year's HHS win over Trotwood-Madison to get the "Ohio monkey" off our backs was large!!

!7 State Final victories!

Any win over CovCath...especially in the playoffs!

For me it would be in 1968 when Trinity beat Seneca 29-18 for our 1st state championship.

November 24th, 1989

4A Semifinals

Warren Central 21 St. Xavier 15

Sent Warren Central to their first state championship game appearance. If Trinity hadn't had an absolutely dominant team at that time (in the midst of their record win streak), I'd be talking about the next game.

For me it would be in 1968 when Trinity beat Seneca 29-18 for our 1st state championship.

I'd go with that one or the 2005 State win over a defending and undefeated Tiger squad.

The 2002 Elder win is impressive as well since Elder won the D-I Ohio title.

Highlands over Louisville Male 26-20 in 1960.

The 1998 semifinals win over Beechwood 29-13 (ending The Beechies 38 game win streak) ,The atmosphere at the game and after was unbelievable.

And of course the following week 27-6 State Championship win over undefeated Mayfield.
