I would have thought that Raceland's win at NewCath in the '97 playoffs would have been the biggest.

That was a big win for Raceland. It is hard to rank the wins, but the Ashland game was big because we were in a series with them that they had dominated, they had won every game. They had just won a 3A State Championship in '90, and no one ever gave Raceland a chance in this game.

 

This game really set up the win over New Cath in '97, in my opinion. After the win over Ashland in '91, Raceland has now won, I believe six times over Ashland, has won some playoff games, and let everyone know that Raceland can compete against virtually any opponent. There are not many games that Raceland goes into, that the fans do not expect to at least be close. When someone in the crowd says, "We can not win this game", someone will pipe up and say, "I don't know, remember the '91 Ashland game".

 

But to be honest, the '91 Ashland game, the '97 New Cath Game, the '90 Pikeville game, and the 2006 Lexington Christian game, were all big wins.

I beleive that game was the first game that coach Vanderhoof launched a passing attack that Raceland had never ran before. The next season was the start of their current offensive (spread/Franklin) system, at that time they called it "Air Raid" or "Air Raceland".

Another huge win imo was a win over Pikeville at Raceland, I cannot remember the year but I beleieve it was the only meeting between the two at Raceland that I can remember, Pikeville was a power in class A and I believe were in the midst of their multiple year state title runs (was right around those years of the Pikeville titles, not sure on the year), I believe that Pikeville was coming off of a State Title the previous season and were ranked #1 in the state. B.T. Ross's Raceland team beat Pikevlle, that was huge, Coach Ross called it his biggest win at Rceland and maybe the biggest ever for the Rams.

The Pikeville win was in '90. I remember it well, mainly because I was across from Deantony Honiker the whole game. Big, big man.

 

Your right no one expected us to win that game. Pikeville beat us the previous year in the "Pike County Coal Bowl", the first game in a two game series. Then we beat Pikeville in the second game in '90. Pikeville had won something like three state championships in four years I believe.

This makes me feel better. I was two years old in '75. You are old.

To me the biggest win in Boyle's history is the playoff win over Danville (I think was 95 or 96). This was the win that I believe broke the big streak that Danville had over Boyle for close to 20 years, and took that Monkey off Boyle's back. This also was the game that placed Boyle on team to watch list in the mid 90's, and everybody knows what happened 1999-2005.

 

I think you are probably right. That was the biggest win because of what followed after.

 

Prior to that win I thought of a few.

 

1976 Boyle beat Henry Clay 28-27. The Rebs finished 10-2 but missed the playoffs. They lost to Frankfort by 1 (kickoff return in last 2 minutes) and Danville by 7 (Late Punt Return set up the go ahead score for Ads). Henry Clay gave the Ads their only loss in the regular season that year. It felt like redemption for Boyle and was a big win over a good 4A team in the CKC Bowl.

 

1977 Boyle upset Danville 14-7 in the finale. The win over Chris Jones' #1 ranked AAA team was not only for bragging rights but it gave Boyle enough points in the old system to claim the District Title and qualify for the playoffs.

 

1982 Rebels upset Somerset 28-27 to claim the District title. I still believe the Jumpers were the best in AA that year. They beat Corbin handily in their meeting and the Hounds went on to win the state.

 

1975 Boyle beat Danville 15-7 to win their first game in the series for about 6 years or so. It started a 5 year run in the series when Boyle took 3 out of 5.

For me it would be in 1968 when Trinity beat Seneca 29-18 for our 1st state championship.

 

For me it was the 1968 St.X/Trinity game, an underdog Tiger team would not be denied and won a thrilling 19-12 game by intercepting a pitchout and scoring with 44 seconds left to brake the tie and give the Rock their only loss of the season. I just had to bring that one up Shamrock69, you can't blame me it was an unbelievable finish.

I would have to say that the 1997 Raceland win at Newport Central Catholic was the biggest, although i was young, i was at that game. The game was played on one of the muddiest feilds id ever seen. This was the first season Coach Vanderhoof was head coach. And it was the first time that Raceland had beaten a Northern Kentucky team on there homefeild. This win really sent a message that Raceland was threat for years to come! Raceland was led by such greats as Mike Salmons, Tyler Miller, Nick Palmer, John Forrest, Seth an Andrew Walker and many others.

Also such wins as the 2006 Raceland team over Lexington Christian Academy, where the Rams traveled to Lexington in the playoffs, after suffering there only loss of the regular season to LCA, the "orange crush" came out victorious. That win hopefuly will build on the success for future Raceland teams. Raceland was led by several greats, such as Scott Grizzle, JT Forrest, Clint Thompson, Joe Stephens, Brad Rogers and many others. By far my favorite Raceland team that ive had to pleasure of watching!!!

 

Also other great wins would be the entire 1996 season, the Rams first and only undefeated regular season, and the 1987, i believe, Raceland-Fairview battle, where the Rams won a close one on a goal line stand at the end of regulation. Some think thats where the rivalry began.

 

Isnt this great that there our so many great wins in our small schools history! But as oldrambler said im waiting on that State Championship victory! And when that day finally comes, ill be there with the rest of the "old rams", celebrating "our" biggest win!

Not that game. That game was played in super slop. They did however go deep on us the second play of the game after Coach Schneider had said, "They are going to try to go deep this first series." We didn't listen too well.

At Ludlow I believe it would have to be the win over Heath in the 1975 Class A state championship game. The only state title we've won in football.

I have a really good feeling about this years team. I cant think of a better way to end the season then enjoying a nice warm slice of Papa Johns Pizza right there in Louisville, watching the Orange and Black get the big trophy! Hopefully we can get Oldrambler, Cvillecat, UT Vol Fan, Ram, Statmaster, Blue Blazer, Yourself, and the whole BluegrassPreps crew down there for a little pre-game meal! GO RAMS!

I always thought Garrard County's biggest win came in the 1995 season opener. The Lions beat Beechwood 22-20 in the Constitution Bowl at Danville. Beechwood had won four straight state titles and brought so much tradition. Garrard played an outstanding game to get the win.
