I think the biggest win would have to be the win over CovCath in the semi-finals and then the #2 would be the win over HHS.

 

The only reaosn why I say the CovCath win was bigger was because it was the first time a Rockcastle County team had won a state-semifinal game in any sport.

 

As for the the baseball one, how about we just make a thread over there and we can discuss that sport in it's own thread? I've got some bigger games than the one mentioned above for Rockcastle County.

 

What's with the attitude? In case you didn't read my post, I said in my opinion. I may have read you the wrong way, if I did, I apologize. I have a really good friend that played on that Corbin team and I rub in to him all the time, plus it was a big loss for Corbin, which always makes me happy.

 

On another note, I am glad to see that we agree on the Cov Cath win though.

Raceland's 7-6 win over Fairview in 2005. Broke an abnormal losing streak for the Rams. Thomas Tolliver caught a touchdown pass from Scott Grizzle late in the 4th and Jacob Sparks made the extra point.

Not to disagree with you UT, but one of Raceland's biggest wins ever was the Raceland/Ashland game of '91 Raceland won 14-13, and was the first time Raceland ever beat Ashland. This game has paid off many times now. This win let everyone know that Raceland could beat a much bigger team like Ashland.

 

I remember a little about it.

I have two, Manual defeating Male 26-0 in 1925 for our FIRST National Championship, or Manual defeating New Britain (CT) 26-20 in 1938 for our SECOND National Championship.

This game has paid off many times now. This win let everyone know that Raceland could beat a much bigger team like Ashland.

. Raceland finally winning a playoff game a few years back over a Northern Kentucky school was big as well. Of course I can't even remember who they beat, but I was living out of the area at the time. So I hope oldrambler and Ram can forgive me.

That one was big but also imo in 75' (fall of 75', class of 76') was the first year that the different classes were separated into "districts" plus at that time only the district champion went to the playoffs, certainly not 4 teams as it is now. Anyway, Paris was in Raceland's district and the Greyhounds (Homer's Hounds) had won a couple of State Championships and were a State Class A powerhouse, the first district meeting between the two was of if not THE hardest hitting games I have ever witnessed that Raceland has played. Coach Larry Heck's Raceland team won the game in an O.T., eventually to go on and win their first of 18 (I believe)district titles and imo made a statement that they were to be contended with in class A.

Another huge win imo was a win over Pikeville at Raceland, I cannot remember the year but I beleieve it was the only meeting between the two at Raceland that I can remember, Pikeville was a power in class A and I believe were in the midst of their multiple year state title runs (was right around those years of the Pikeville titles, not sure on the year), I believe that Pikeville was coming off of a State Title the previous season and were ranked #1 in the state. B.T. Ross's Raceland team beat Pikevlle, that was huge, Coach Ross called it his biggest win at Rceland and maybe the biggest ever for the Rams.

 

There certainly have been many memorable ones but I think that we all (Raceland fans) can agree that we are waiting on the biggest win ever at Raceland.....a state class A championship .

Funny story about the '91 Raceland/Ashland game. Coach Ross did his normally great job of firing up the team before the game, and said things like, "No one gives you all a chance to win", and " We are the only people who think we have a chance", and "I know that we are just as good as Ashland".

 

So needless to say, we went out and knew that we could beat Ashland, fresh off the '90 state championship. So, we got the upset and stopped Ashland's leading rusher, Chris Hutt, and won the game. After the game, Coach Ross said, and I remember this line very well, "I knew we could win this game".

 

Then several years ago, when Coach Ross retired, the local news paper did a story on his big wins. The reporter asked him what was some of his greatest victories as a coach. He named several, one being the '91 Raceland/Ashland game. He said that that game and that team was special, because he never thought Raceland could win that game, and that he only played it to make Raceland better going into the district.

 

I read the article in horror. I though what do you mean you never thought we could win, we thought we could win, you told us we could win, we went out to win, we played to win, and we did win. So, I called Coach Bill Tom Ross. He said hello, I did not say who I was or anything. I said what do you mean you never thought we could beat Ashland in '91? He knew exactly who I was and said my name and said well I just didn't know how much you wanted to win, and explained himself.

I would have thought that Raceland's win at NewCath in the '97 playoffs would have been the biggest.

Highlands 1996 win over Bell County at "The Swamp" in the 3A semi-finals.

Or Bill Tom Ross's ability to read the name on is Caller ID! LOL! :ylsuper: Raceland's win over LCA in the playoffs in 2006 was a big win as well. Those kids went in to that game refusing to lose. I remember when I was at Raceland they played a tough Greenup team to a Triple Overtime win in 1994. Until the Russell game this past season, that was the biggest crowd I had ever seen at Ram Stadium. There was literally people everywhere, flooding the sidelines, the end zones.

 

The playoff win I was thinking of was the win over Dayton in 2002. The '97 win was when I lived in Cincinnati. I am getting too old to remember all this stuff. Someone needs to create a nice website with all the history and results.

I really think that our biggest win in my lifetime was the 2001 state title game against Male....we won 45-19, but going into that game, it really was a must win for us, Male had throttled us the year before, and had a lot of that team coming back....all season, most thought it would come down to us two, we HAD TO WIN, and we did, that set the tone for what has happened since then.

You feel old :scared:! Look at the game that I listed in my previous post (1975), if he was one year old in 91' :eek::lol:! I'll tell you another sign, I coached Raceland's coach Randy Vanderhoof in one of if not his first year of youth league baseball, I think that they called in "rookie or minor" little league at that time, around 9 years olds I think.

Anyway, I am freakin' old (I prefer to call it experienced or well seasoned veteran). O.K., it's still old.
