This is probably a discussion for Politics/Religion board but I just want to throw out a comment on school lunches. Although not without faults, Belfry's breakfast/lunch program was not bad. In fact, sadly, I think for an substantial number of public school students - school lunch represents the best/most balance meal of the day. At least at Belfry. God I used to love Pinto Bean/Kraut and weenies/cornbread - with cherry cobbler day.

Lawrence needs to go back to its roots. Take the 4 best athletes on the team and put them at QB, RB, RB, and FB respectively. Get in the wishbone and run right at people! Get back to the basics and work on firing off the ball and owning the LOS. That is the formula for sucess for Lawrence Co.

I always here $$$$ being mentioned when talking about scheduling issues. I know it cost more money to drive 2 - 3 hours away for a game BUT ITS WORTH IT! If Belfry could get good quality matchups with the likes of Lexington Lafeyette/Dunbar, etc, but aren't because of travel expenses - I officially volunteer $20 to offset that cost. My dad will throw in another $20 and I'll get my grandfather to toss in $20 as well. I bet EKU and his family would do the same. I think the Belfry program is well funded, but IF travel expenses REALLY are a limitation on our schedule - the adminstration just has to explicitly say so and the fan base will step up to the plate.

EKU makes a good point though Birdfan. The Highlands offense shouldn't have been affected AT ALL by the tear away jerseys - they managed only 6 points. Now if you think Belfry would have scored less than 6 points but for the tear away jerseys then that makes some sense - but how can you be so sure they wouldn't have at least punch one in the endzone?

Pulaski plays 5A football too, so its not like he is putting up his numbers against weak competition.

Is he a D-1 talent? Certainly feasible he could grow another couple inches

I meant to replay to your post long ago GCHS_09. IMO, considering the understandable trend of the Belfry program to want to schedule non-district games relatively close to home, I would hope this "extra" game would be an exception to that general policy. Even if they had to travel every year, IMO, having that extra non-district game gives the Pirates the oppurtunity to get out in the state, play some top notch competition AND give the fans a road trip to really look forward to. Teams like Clark Co.(GRC), Madison Central, Lafeyette (or similar Lexington teams) AND Scott Co. would be GREAT additions to a Pirate Schedule IMO. With the completion of U.S. 23 last year, it would now be essentially a 3 hour 15 minutes bus ride for a Lexington team (or Madison Central/Scott Co.) and less than 3 hours for GRC. Just seems like this could be accomplished. BUT, a decent alternative would be to get a long term contract with Letcher County Central.

Just wanted to bump this go Pirate fans who will be attending the upcoming practices and are near the program. I (and I bet EKU) would appreciate ANY updates.

Very glad to see Belfry will only have to play 3 district games. Just hope they can take advantage of the extra non distrist game to get a solid opponent on the schedule.

Belfry's Blackburn has very good (6'3" 295 ish) size. Should be an great unit.

I have tried to stay out of this, but I just don't get it. Why does it matter if a kid gets a tattoo to express himself (again assuming with consent of his PARENTS)? What is so wrong with tattoos? What if the BEST kid on the team got a tattoo of Jesus on the cross to show his devotion to the lord? Would that be a problem?

Absolutely agree. The move to 6 classes should have provided an oppurtunity to get some better matchups. May have to bite the bullet and travel to get good games.

I think the offense will be pretty much unstoppable against most 3a competition. I look for Coach to call QB Elkins number a bit more this upcoming season. Dotson and Lee will be very strong runners. Thomas Varney has enough speed to excel at the 3a level and should be a year more mature and strong. If Coach places him there, I agree Lovern has excellent potentional to be a playmaker at SE. TE Coleman will be strong in the running game and servicable in the passing game. Offensive line should be a real strength of the team with 4 returning starters. Defensively, I'm not as certain. Not sure what underclassmen being looked to contribute, but just off the top of my head I would think the D would be strong but maybe a step slower than this past season. Replacing May at linebacker and Hickman on the front line will be the most difficult tasks.

Wouldn't fly? Would the coach REALLY keep a kid from playing football if he got a tattoo? (presumably with parental consent) Not the coaches business IMO

The important word in the above post is "give." I think some people are upset because, not specifically because Shelby Valley will be hosting games, but because that honor has been "given" and not "earned."
