Lovern is a natural at WR IMO. The kid is tall, lanky, and has very good speed and hands. With Varney being the heir apparent at TB, I would move Varney to WR and work his BE-HIND off at that position to devolop him into a weapon. I honestly think the kid grew three inches during the season. lol

Although I like the Ironton matchup, I think it would benefit belfry more to play top notch schools who run wide open offenses. BTW, if this thread is going to get shutdown because of what EKU mentioned, just do it now.

BTW Belfry needs to play a better schedule next season. No disrespect intended, but a couple/three of the teams we played this season did nothing to prepare us for the playoffs. BEEF UP THE SCHEDULE.

Central deserves all the credit in the world, especially for that last drive. There was still 4 minutes on the clock. If Belfry could have gotten a stop, they would have had a chance to score, but Central just ran the ball down Belfry's throat. Very impressive. Bottom line IMO = your asking too much when you expect 6 strong men to block 11 strong men.

I posted this in the Belfry 08 thread. Central loses 7 of 11 offensive starters including their QB, RB, FB, WR, TE, and two OL.

Just did a little research on what Central returns. They lose 7 of the 11 offensive starters including the QB, RB, FB, one WR and TE (along with two lineman). Im sure they can reload to some degree, but those were experienced/talented guys.

Good sportsmanship on the field last night as well.

To the poster above who said Belfry got away with some false starts, I agree. Tailbacks left early a couple times and got away with it. Officiating wasn't that bad. I don't think it had an outcome on the game at all. As a fan (regardless of team) I was a bit frustrating with all of the stoppages in play though.

Central had talent all over the place. It seemed like their lines were just as big as Belfry if not bigger and the linebackers and secondary all looked to be like 6'2 - 210. They were just big/lean/strong athletes who were playing sound and inspired football. As good as Central was, Belfry had a chance to win the game. 3rd and 5 from the 15 or so with 4 minutes to go. Central blew that play up over and over again. Great effort by both teams.

Congrats to the 07 Pirates on a great season! We are proud of you. But, new season starts today. Entire backfield returns minus May. Hopefully, a good offseason will yield improvement across the board. Elkins will be the key IMO. Belfry will need him to improve in both the passing and running game. Clearly in order for Belfry to beat a team like Central next season they are going to have to be able to throw the ball more successfully. I would move Lovern to WR and try to develop him into a threat. He is pretty tall (and probably still growing) and he showed good hands this past season. The O-line should be very strong, as well as TE with Coleman. They will run over most teams just like this past season. With 4 returning starters, they should only get stronger. The Central game is an eye opener IMO. The focus of the offseason - speed work! Lets Go returning Pirates! Take a week off, feel good about a great season, and start working boys!

Central has a great team. They controlled the LOS and were just too good for Belfry last night.

Central has been impressive against bigtime competition. No doubt about that. On the other hand, a 2 TD win over Etown and the Johnson Central showing suggest they also have had some "off" nights. I expect both teams to play well. Its going to be a truly great game.

Louisville Central has a good chance to win the game. They have a very good team. JEEZ

One thing I worry about: To this point Belfry has been able to break long runs and have had enough speed to not get run down from behind. Against this Central team, those 40 yard gains might turn into 15 yard gains. Belfry will have to be very fundamentally sound.

Its unfortunate we don't have more Paducah Tilghman, Elizabethtown, etc fans on here to shed some light on this Louisville Central team.

I love Central's schedule. As a Belfry fan, I would LOVE to play bigtime OOD teams like that. I would have been happy to see East Carter, Shelby Valley, and Lawrence Co. replaced with 3 better opponents, even if it would have resulted in losses.

I think the playoff runs have been plenty even as well.

Not just the students Watusi. I think a lot of the community takes pride in that school/complex. That football field really does mean a lot to the community.

It really is a wonderful place to watch a game. I am SOOOOOO glad that it was decided to keep the football field seperate from the track. Being right on top of the action makes all the difference in the world IMO.
