Look I understand what you are saying but an argument can be made that gambling has some negative effects on the community.

 

Economically speaking Michigan and Illinois are two states that allow casinos and each are struggling. I just don't see how preying on the stupidity of people is a good long term economic solution.

What else do you consider "preying on the stupidity" of people? Those that spend a couple hundred bucks on a sporting event ticket? What about someone that spends $600 on a bow? $300 at the opera? Why can't people CHOOSE where to spend their leisure money?

Underfunded, yes. Disastrously underfunded like they would be without Lottery support? Not according to accuarial research. So they lottery is doing the state good.

Because there are many in this state who do not believe in individual freedom and think law makers are better at telling us how to live our lives which is exactly what preventing this from going to the ballot does.

I thought those people were called liberals.

It would bring in a lot of revenue that we are missing out on. The money we lose goes to Cinn and Indiana.

Cincinnati's will not open for about another year, but as soon as it does that is where I may be spending some of my entertainment dollars, which I wish I could spend in KY.

I agree that if people would have the will power. But if anyone goes to the casino expecting to win more than just a litte, or needing to win to pay off a bill, they should just stay home. I go with the amount of money that I plan to lose, I do not use a credit card, if I lose the money I have I lose it, if I win well all the better, but I walk in hoping to break even.

Still waiting for someone besides mountainref on the anti-casino bandwagon to come forward with their plans to stimulate Kentucky's economy. I like mountainref's "green" jobs ideas. But we need more. Whatcha got, guys?

Good point. For those of you against casinos, I'd love to know what terrible things have happened in Indiana since their legalization. I live pretty close to Indiana and I for one have failed to see the great scourge casinos have brought to the land.

Yeah because Obama supporters are the ones always waving around guns.

This issue is a no brainer, not allowing casino gambling in KY doesn't prevent 1 Kentuckian from gambling. Is there anywhere in the state that is more than an hour drive from a casino? This time next year there will be 2 within a 20 minute drive of where I live and if you push that out to 2 hours there will be a half dozen. Casinos are now present in every border state so by KY not having them we are simply watching revenue from our residents leave to our border states. It is a big time case of cutting off our nose to spite our face. It's sad that such poor leadership is present especially given the monetary relationship that has been present between the Indiana casinos and David Williams.
