I'm completely in the dark as to why Christians would be against it?

According to the National Council on Problem Gambling, 2 million U.S. adults are pathological gamblers and another 4 to 6 million are problem gamblers. This addiction can destroy the stability of the family, lead to job loss, and cause a person to lose control of their life:

 

IMO most Chritsians see it as a sin, I really dont. But I do think it leads to family problems that in turn effect kids. that is why I dont agree with it.

 

If people would have will power and just go in a casino with a set amount of money to lose, then fine, but they always spend more trying to catch back up.

 

Anyone know the % of people who actually leave a casino a winner?

^By that reasoning though shouldn't sex, alcohol, pain meds, etc. also be bad and thus banned?

 

I would think the better solution would be to have it legalized with programs in place to help those who are addicted and by individuals taking personal responsibility for their own actions.

As a Christian I was against it.

 

As for our horse industry and business I was for it. Anything to keep our money in state and help ourselves.

Can't that be said for most addictions?

Can someone explain to me the advantages of gambling? I'm not trying to pick an arguement I'm just not sure why everyone is so much in favor of it.

 

Just as some like to spend their money going to sporting events, concerts, collect guns or baseball cards, some people like to use their leisure money to gamble.

 

As everyone else has said, those that like to gamble are going out of state to do so and that money is being lost in KY.

Gaming like many other things can lead to addictive behavior. I am addictive to Great Food. There for I am over weight. So ban Food! It is killing my life. I no longer wear the same size pants I wore at the age of 21.

The biggest travesty is NOT that issue of gaming in and of itself. The overriding travesty is that we do not have representation in Frankfort who will allow the voters the ability to decide the issue.

As some of the posts point out, many people aren't big supporters of gambling but they support this bill because every state around Kentucky is pulling money out of our state and our horse racing industry is being destroyed.

 

Personally, I think gambling is silly. It is a waste of time and money. I can see how some people participate in gambling for enjoyment and approach it strictly as their use of entertainment dollars. I have done that on occasion myself just to try it out. But I think people waste way too much time and money on it IMO. It really does nothing for me so I have a hard time understanding people who are so into it. All that being said, despite my dislike for gambling and belief it has virtually no redeeming value, I want to see the issue on the ballot and I will vote in favor of it.

I agree gambling is a waste of dollars.

 

I am someone who gambles. Usally it is with a group of my friends and we get together to have fun. Just like we do when we golf and attend other events. It is entertainment.
