Gaming Bill Defeated

Featured Replies

The problem with this notion is that we don't get to vote on David Williams. The people of his district do and they in essences are the ones holding it up. Sen. Thayer asked for a delay on the vote because to Senators had to be out of town yesterday and were not present to vote. Their vote would have given the bill the 23 necessary. Senator Williams saw an opportunity and used his position to crush something he doesn't like regardless of what the rest of the state thinks.

Do you know what they had to be out of town for? Were they all gone for the same reason or for differing reasons?

So what was the purpose of the state ran lottery? It was implemented to increase revenue for the state? So the silver bullet is more gambling, correct?

The lottery has increased revenue but much of the revenue is being used to for many state government employee benefits and retirement. Without the lottery, those programs would be even more underfunded.

It's not a cure-all, but increased revenues would be a byproduct of allowing people to spend their money as they please.

So what's next? What happens when the revenue from gambling isn't enough? Do we go to prostitution?

Face it not may people are all that concerned about the additional revenue.

So the lottery has fixed nothing. These programs are still underfunded. All the lottery has done is take money out of indivuals pockets and put it in the hands of the state where it continues to be mismanaged.

Why not allow Kentuckians to vote on whether or not we want casinos? As I stated earlier, in response to a question of yours, some people like to spend their leisure money at a casino, just as others like to do so for sports, travel, etc. What's wrong with that?

So you want eutopia. Why not let the people vote on every issue? How about prostitution, should we be allowed to vote on that also? Hey I want alcohol sales in my dry county, should we vote on that?

What other issues to we vote on? Why is gambling different?

Those that want gambling so bad could move to Indiana. :idunno: Then everything would be taken care of. Your state would have gambling and you wouldn't be missing out anymore on all the big revenue. Those that don't want gambling could just stay in KY. Everybody would be happy. Something to think about.

I know one time I wanted something pretty bad, and I wasn't happy with the way things were going where I was at, so I decided to move. It was that important to me. Little work, problem solved.

I agree 100%. Voting with your feet (and your tax dollars) is one of the principles I agree with. If you don't like your state's policy's, you're free to move to a state that fits your beliefs. That is why our constitution leaves so many things to the states.

You didn't answer my question, but I will answer yours.

If there are enough people that want those things that you mentioned, why not?

Aren't the states really the people that make them up?

Kind of like when the people of California voted NO for gay marriage and a federal judge over ruled it. So much for getting to vote or doing what the people want.

Actually, the two are not very similar.

Casino's would bring many jobs, I think they would be worth it just by the amount of new jobs it would bring.

The reason every Kentuckian doesn't get to vote on the issue of gambling is the same reason we don't get to set the speed limit or decide the state income tax rate. We elect congressmen to vote on our behalf. That's the way it was set up 200 plus years ago.

You can't be serious. If enough people want to legalize prostitution then it's ok? Heck, why stop there. How about we just settle disputes with a gun fight in the middle of the streets. I mean if enough people want it..............................
