Fair and balanced. :lol: About everyone I know are planning vacations this spring and summer, and did so last year as well. It was about 4 years ago that I knew people who didn't go on one as they said that they couldn't afford a vacation. Fair and balanced? Yeah right! LOL! I love how these news outlets started on Obama for his vacations, until the truth came out about how many W took, which was the most of any president, all his trips to the "western whitehouse". I didn't mind it when Bush was president and I don't mind it with Obama. Now they are reaching, in desperation? Do they really think the election will be that close that they have to start attacking the first lady? They all don't end up with grey hair for no reason after a short period of time.

The President needs to reel his wife in and let her know all these (get back at you America) vacations are hurting his image to regular people. I don't feel Maddam Deficit is due all the vacation time she gets. Maybe she is out to get in as much as she can in case they lose the election.
February 19, 201214 yr The impression is that the dollar figures used , say $4M for Hawaii, are incremental dollars spent. That's not true. Much of the "cost" is simply taking existing salaries and turning them into an hourly rate. So if 10 members of the Secret Service go along their salary that is allocated to this trip is in the calculation. The key point is that those dollars allocated for the trip are being spent already regardless of what the President and his family do. If they sit in the White House for the same number of days that they stayed in Hawaii there is no new expense being incurred. Those types of expenses are what makes up probably 80% of the costs that were hear floated. SS is getting paid for whatever they do regardless if it's in DC or Hawaii.

February 19, 201214 yr Tourism is one of the industries in the "added jobs" category in 2011. I'd say a lot of people are able to take vacations. As to this particular situation, I simply can't find any outrage or even minor annoyance. As a member of the tourism industry, I'm all for ANYONE who wants to take a vacation.
