I think we'll have to agree to disagree about that. While they were both the targets of some pretty crazy attacks and insults, to say that Obama has gotten off light in comparison would require you to ignore a prodigious amount of rhetoric. I would say that is true in not only content, but volume and intensity as well. While the anti-war protesters were quite loud, I don't think they match the near-riots at the health care town hall discussions or the breadth and strength of the Tea Party. And while there were quite a few people who believed Bush was invading Iraq for his own personal oil profit, there are an equally prevalent number of people who believe Obama is an illegitimate Muslim Kenyan who is actively attempting to destroy the United States so it can be recreated as a socialist empire.

 

As to my original observation, I still don't understand the Michelle Obama hatred. Especially the go-to insult of calling her fat and ugly. It's obsessive with some people.

 

Agreed. The disrespect that I remember about President Bush was "Bush lied, soldiers died" and an unflattering comparison with a photo of a chimp, I believe. I don't remember anything five times worse than what President and Mrs. Obama have had to deal with. Honestly, I don't remember Mrs. Laura Bush receiving any negative commentary. I probably would have remembered that, too, as I was really a fan of her.

Hmmm...I'm a school teacher. I took a vacation last summer, one at Christmas and will take one again this summer. My brother works in a steel mill. He and his family (three kids and wife) went to San Diego last year for vacation. They aren't taking a vacation this summer, as my sister-in-law is due with their 4th child at the end of July.

Nearly all of my teacher co-workers take one or more vacations. Most of my other friends (including Facebook friends) talk about and post photos of vacations. This includes business owners and factory workers.

 

I guess the ones I talk to are not as privileged as most.

Well conservative's never could figure out the left's problem with George Bush. Everything that's been said about Obama has been about 5 times nicer than the things said about Bush.

 

 

I beg to differ. I think the hate has been fairly equal when it comes to political decisions but once you add in the few instances of blatant racism Obama has received then I'd say the Obama hate has been much uglier.

You are correct. I never said that more people were flying. Ref's contention is that people are not going on vacations. I'm saying he's wrong. Flights are crowded. People are flying. People are heading south in their cars for vacation. He says he talks to people that can't afford a vacation. That doesn't show me that the "majority of Americans won't be able to afford" a vacation.

I will take your word for it, as I have not been involved in the airline industry for many years. I was actually referring to actual profits, which I guess would not necessarily be connected to full or empty seats.

I don't remember an entire cable news channel trying vehemently to disprove President Bush's citizenship/birth certificate.

What did Barbara or Laura Bush do to get spotlight on them. They tried to stay out of spotlight.

Laura Bush pushed literacy initiatives similar to how Michelle Obama has pushed childhood obesity initiatives. This is the a fairly typical role of the first lady, which is taking up a soft, non-controversial issue and raising awareness, etc. Hilary Clinton took a much more active and important role in her husband's administration, especially early on when she headed up the healthcare thing. That at least explains why she became such an important figure for conservatives, though her boogeyman status remained well after the Clinton healthcare initiative failed.

Nice stall tactic, you completely miss the point. Is it ok to compare Bush to Hitler and the Nazi's? You just want to turn it around, I never said the criticism of Obama was fair, what I said was you are ignoring what the left did to Bush. Your response shows exactly that.

That title is one that is earned and given by the American people with their vote. It does automatically entitle that person to being respected.
