February 19, 201214 yr During the telecast, the announcers mentioned that St. Mary's flew into Nashville, and practiced there, before coming to Murray. I think there is no doubt that Murray is the NCAA's. I wonder what Indiana State's seed was when Bird took them to the championship game? The Sycamores were the top seed in the midwest region that year.
February 19, 201214 yr I'd say at best a 4, and at worst a 6 seed. I just pray the committee doesn't screw the state of KY and put them in the same region as UK... Unless they are an 8 or 9 seed and meet UK in the second round they won't be around long enough to match up with Kentucky anyway.
February 19, 201214 yr Murray State impressed me last night. If no one gets out on their shooters it's lights out. I hadn't seen them play this year except for a few ESPN highlights. I see them maybe a 6 seed if they finish out the season undefeated going into selection day. They would be higher but their SOS will hurt them, imo. They have a nice arena. How many does it seat? It looks quite a bit bigger than EKU's and Morehead's.

I think the building had been full (for a basketball game) once in the first 12 or 13 years of its existence. This year, Murray has had 5 or 6 straight sellouts.

Only other full house was against SIU a few years back. They added a few more seats yesterday to hit 8,825. 6 straight sellouts to end the season. Good thing is they have sold out every OVC road game to the best of my knowledge.
February 19, 201214 yr Being a 1980 graduate of Murray State and as we watched the game Saturday night, we were wondering when a team comes to play Murray or Dickie V comes to Murray, where do they fly into? In 1980 Murray had not much and were not very good in 1979 but got much better in 1980 Thanks to Ron Greene. Can anyone help? Vitale flew in to Murray's airport in his Citation. Some teams in larger charters will fly in to Paducah. Murray's runway is 6300 ft so it can handle a decent size plane if need be. All OVC teams take a bus which comprises most of the Racers's opponents.
February 20, 201214 yr Author DeCourcy says the mid-40s RPI seems about right for Murray. And the man did such a wonderful job of picking winners in last years games too:rolleyes:.. Lets see his 2011 Final Four picks were....... Ohio State, Duke, Notre Dame and Kansas State, and each and every one of his picks were from a large conference Big Ten, ACC, Big East and the Big 12 Yep he was 100% WRONG..... Yep, he is one to listen to.......about mid major teams.....:notworthy:

The seeding issue is not a projection of how teams will fare in the tourney. It is 100% a measure of your entire season. In other words, what have you earned. By your logic Villanova should have been a #1 seed in 1985. They were an 8 . Your logic also says that you are not smart if you didnt pick UConn to win it last year. No Murray supporter can say they have played a schedule that warrants a high seed. Edited February 20, 201214 yr by Clyde

February 20, 201214 yr Author Funny but CBSsport.com says Murray State is a number 3 seed but then again, I guess they are "emotionally invested" in Murray State too. Oh and this was before the St. Mary's game. So maybe I am emotionally invested in Murray State but then again maybe you just don't like the smaller colleges in the big dance.....bringing down the big boys! Link
February 20, 201214 yr The Sycamores were the top seed in the midwest region that year. Thanks for the info. They obviously must have played a much tougher schedule than the Racers have.
February 20, 201214 yr Thanks for the info. They obviously must have played a much tougher schedule than the Racers have. Depends upon your opinion of the quality of the Missouri Valley Conference that year. Before the NCAA tourney, the only team from a "power conference" (BCS conference) they played was Purdue. The rest of their schedule was littered with directional schools and other "mid-majors."
