...and with the $240M LA will give him it will be easy to support them.

He won't end up in LA. Write it down.

He won't stay in Cincy. Write it down.

Just did.

I'm just one person, but yes I do.

I wish they could, but fiscally it's pretty much impossible.

Walt was on sports talk last night and said they are going to be talking to Joey this season about signing a long term deal. He feels that is where St. Louis screwed up with Pujols. Also, he didn't think the Pujols deals would hurt the negotiations but the Fielder deal really is going to hurt. Also said signing Phillups will come down to economics as they would like to keep him but have to look at what they would have to pay.

If Votto goes anywhere it will be Toronto.

Couldn't agree more LRCW. It was interesting that Toronto seemed to be in the running for some big names this winter, but ultimately tapered off. I feel like they are just waiting for Votto. Cincy and Toronto are my early favorites.

I doubt the Reds will resign BP. With Billy Hamilton in the minors and some expecting him to switch to 2B it wouldn't be terrible. Hamilton is what the Reds have been waiting for at leadoff from everything I've heard and read on the kid. The MLB.com top 100 said his speed gives him great range at SS, but his arm makes many think he'll be at 2B in the MLB. Cozart and Hamilton up the middle is solid.

On a side note, if BP is indeed a FA this coming winter I wonder if the Cardinals (2B has been a black hole since Vina) would bid on him. Wouldn't that be fun...

He's very young and can fly but I think there has to be a lot of questions about Hamilton. He hit .278 with and OBP of .340 in A ball this season. While those numbers aren't terrible they aren't that great for a leadoff hitter. He also only had 30 extra-base hits in 550 at bats and struck out 133 times. In addition he committed 39 errors. I don't think he's going to be major league ready for awhile.

I think he'll end up in CF. But BP made a ton of errors his first full minor league season and we all saw how that turned out. I don't have the numbers but he hit much better after the first two months of the season. They were attempting to teach him how to switch hit.

Do they live in Toronto now?

A friend of mine is in the construction business in Toronto and he just met with Votto and his mom to finalize plans on a house for her there. They aren't going anywhere any time soon.

As for signing Votto, the trend is to get a deal longer than accepted instead of shorter. This is because of one person and one person only...the agent. No way his agent lets him take only 5 years if someone else is offering 8+.

Hamilton recently became a switch hitter. I don't know the #'s for guys who have taken a similar path (started switch hitting after getting drafted), but it's fairly reasonable to expect Hamilton's #'s to increase over time.

Howie Kendrick recently signed a 4 year, $33.5 million extension. BP has produced more than Kendrick and for a longer period of time, but they're fairly comparable.

Kendrick's deal at least gives the Reds a shot at re-signing Phillips.

I hear they are real close to signing him, I was told most likely a one year deal.

Who, Phillips? I don't understand that at all.

Really? That makes no sense at all. Why would he take a 1 year deal?
