January 26, 201214 yr Notice I didn't say anything about LA....Votto has said in the past that the only athlete in LA that gets any attention is Kobe....The media out there really doesn't care about the Dodgers....and I've said for the last few days that is where I think he will go. Someone, probably more than one team will offer him a contract over $200M. Unless the Reds can do that he is gone...
January 26, 201214 yr At the end of the day, I see Votto potentially going to one of 3 places. LA Dodgers, Washington Nationals, or staying in Cincinnati. If I had to handicap the race, I'd say the Dodgers are the overwhelming favorite, but if he's really as out there as many claim he is, I could see him staying on a shorter deal. Especially if they're successful this season. That's the big key. If they can get him to sign longer term next off season there won't be any bidding war.

January 26, 201214 yr That's the big key. If they can get him to sign longer term next off season there won't be any bidding war.I agree, their best (only) chance is to not allow him on the open market.
January 26, 201214 yr The player's union would be livid if he turns down $100M worth of guaranteed money. That needs to be factored into it. Not if he signs the extension before his current deal is up. I'm talking about after this coming season. He'll still be under contract for the 2013 season, and Phillips will be off the books. Take what you're currently paying Joey, add the Phillips money to it and you're at the very least getting into a dollar amount that will bring Votto and his agent to the table.
January 26, 201214 yr If Votto goes anywhere it will be Toronto. Completely disagree. If he's really the guy who doesn't like the spotlight, I'd say his hometown of Toronto would be the very last place he'd even consider.
January 26, 201214 yr Author Completely disagree. If he's really the guy who doesn't like the spotlight, I'd say his hometown of Toronto would be the very last place he'd even consider. Family comes first. He has two younger brothers who don't have a father around.
January 26, 201214 yr Family comes first. He has two younger brothers who don't have a father around. So he has to be in Toronto to support them or be involved?
January 26, 201214 yr Author So he has to be in Toronto to support them or be involved? It would certainly help to be around them a lot more than he is now. I just don't see Joey in LA or Chicago. I think it will be Toronto or Cincinnati.
January 26, 201214 yr It would certainly help to be around them a lot more than he is now. I just don't see Joey in LA or Chicago. I think it will be Toronto or Cincinnati. Do they live in Toronto now?
January 27, 201214 yr If Votto goes anywhere it will be Toronto. If? Do we really think the Reds can keep him?
January 27, 201214 yr Family comes first. He has two younger brothers who don't have a father around....and with the $240M LA will give him it will be easy to support them.
January 27, 201214 yr Author If? Do we really think the Reds can keep him? I'm just one person, but yes I do.
