If the Reds let Phillips go, they may be able to offer Votto something along the lines of 5yr/115M or something something close to it. Would that be enough to get him to stay, who knows, but it'd be in the ballpark I think.

You guys have to remember Votto is a very different guy he doesn't like the spot light. He's not going to New York and Chicago. It's just not who he is. I could easily see him taking a deal like that to stay where it's "low key".

At 30 I highly doubt he takes a 5 year deal when he can likely get 8 or 9. I don't ever remember those guys specifically saying anything about not liking the spot light.

CC was, but trying to find quotes from that many years ago requires a lot more googling than I'm willing to do today. Tex might have been too, but now that I think about it harder, there may have been something else working with him. Regardless, you've been following sports for a long time. He probably would, but everyone, not just "Reds fans" as you claim, has said that Votto is an odd bird. I believe it was Peter Gammons who said Votto simply would not go somewhere like Boston, New York, or Chicago. He even said he doubted he want to go and be in the spotlight he'd be in in Toronto.

Notice I didn't say anything about LA....Votto has said in the past that the only athlete in LA that gets any attention is Kobe....The media out there really doesn't care about the Dodgers.

At the end of the day, I see Votto potentially going to one of 3 places. LA Dodgers, Washington Nationals, or staying in Cincinnati.

 

If I had to handicap the race, I'd say the Dodgers are the overwhelming favorite, but if he's really as out there as many claim he is, I could see him staying on a shorter deal. Especially if they're successful this season.
