271 is my count from the drop down list on the KHSAA scoreboard. Someone please double check my work.

I can do some research too, but off the top of my head...I think this would eliminate Lloyd, St. Henry and Holy Cross from Region 9.

After thinking about what i orginally posted, I am not sure i agree with it now. I believe if the All A became the smallest 8 schools from each region this would eventually lead to classification in basketball and cost us the Sweet Sixteen as we know it.

I don't think the smallest 8 in each region works because it defeats the whole idea of the All A. Without doing the research, if you go to the smallest 8 in each region, you could potentially have a football 4A or even 5A school playing in the All A. If you want to avoid 4 team regions in the All A, then you have to move some teams from their region to another for the All A.

We've gone over this year after year after year.

Why would you need eight schools from each region qualifying? If you are in a region with only four All "A" schools it would be very difficult for a Class A school to make it to the regular state tournament. They deserve to be in a smaller field for a chance to play in the small school state tournament. By adding four schools that shouldn't be there you would just make it tougher on the schools who deserve a chance.

Sounds like you're for classifying basketball in KY? Let's see, if we've got 6 classes for about 220 football schools; then we'd need about 8 for 270+ hoops' schools?? Good luck selling that one.

 

On second thought, we could then have the 8 "state champions" meet in a weekend tourney the following week, to determine THE state champion??

Most years Madison Southern wouldn't have much of a chance. They had a really nice team a couple of years ago though.

It isn't fair to Model, Berea or Sayre, though, to have a school the size of Madison Southern take away their chance at playing in a state tournament. Unless, of course, the enrollment drops below the cutoff number.

While the request is appreciated, Garrard County is actually one of the bigger schools in 3A-football. Garrard participated in the All "A" during the '90s and a few times in the early '00s, but those days have long since passed. The joke around Lancaster was former athletic director and girls coach Ken Hurt made new students delay enrolling until the All "A" numbers were counted so Garrard could remain in the tournament.

 

But while using this tournament as a way of building tradition at a school would be nice, in reality this is an event that should only be for the smallest of schools. A school like Garrard should strive to build a program similar to Wayne County and Rockcastle County, both of which are similar in size but have had a great deal more basketball success.

1979! That is 33 years ago, the seniors from that year are 50 years old! What about all the kids since then?????

Basketball is a sport though where you only need 5 unlike football and most others.

No, Garrard's never been to a regional final. They've lost five times in the semifinals, the most recent being in 1982. I think they also made the semifinals in 1977 and 1979. So Garrard hasn't won a region basketball tournament game in 30 years.
