LB13, I appreciate those words but the Truth is...I love the High School game and I have a blast doing it!

Macdonald might not have had as many points as the first game, however he did a pretty nice job defensively against Campbell. According to the box score Campbell had 6, well below his average. Campbell was a difference maker on the defensive end blocking and altering shoots.

 

The young man battled hard and has nothing to hang his head about.

paNDA pictures show that he was certainly in the thick of it all. The numbers show he indeed was very effective on defense! I was not meaning any kind of disrespect to Mr. MacDonald. He is a great player that I have been watching play since he was in the 4th grade. I was supporting Walter's analysis. Per Walter, "The Bred's have a size advantage and didn't use it at all."

I would say height advantage but not size advantage.

I was not at the game. For whatever it is worth, to support your analysis, Walter, MacDonald had 17 points in the first match-up and 4 points last night. Not getting the ball to him? :idunno:

 

McDonald got the ball down low but off of very few entry passes. He did a great job defensively on Campbell, getting deflections and steals on entry passes and making things tough on the big guy when he'd try to use post moves.

 

Campbell had 4 or 5 blocks early in the first quarter and after that it was almost as if NCC got "scared" to take the ball to the rim...even with him in foul trouble and out of the game.

 

Brannen should've used a 2-3 zone with McDonald, Ryan, and Seibert (sp?) down low and Hightchew, Beuter up top and forced the Indians to beat them from outside. I think HC may have attempted no more than 5 treys the entire night.

 

I also think one of the biggest reasons NCC struggled against HC pressure was because Beuter had no help. He would get the inbounds pass, run to the sideline and be trapped and turn it over. Against HC, you have to have your guards stay back or you will continually turn it over from only having one ball handler. Breds had trouble attacking the middle of the press and getting easy baskets.

I agree with your thoughts. Last year NCC used Geisler in the middle of the floor to help break the press and this was very effective. With his size and ball handling skills they were able to break the press pretty consistant and get some easy baskets. Not sure why they didn't do that with Seibert or McDonald in the middle. They did use McDonald in the middle on the 2-2-1 press. It seemed like the man press HC used caused New Cath more issues. They should have used Hightchew more bringing the ball up on the man press. Then when they tried to jump at half court, Hightchew hits the man left open (Bueter or Seibert) and let them hit the open jumper or take the play to the next step.

WOW! Cambell only scores and 6 points and Holy Cross wins by 17 points! HC must be palying very well. New Cath was on a roll!

HC was 1-6 from 3 land...for those who have seen the Indians play this year, obviously a season low for attempts.

Campbell has 6, HC is 1-6 from behind the arc and wins by 17? I just went back and found the paper for the box scores. They did have 9 kids score with burger leading the way with 20.

For NCC Seibert looks like he had a career night with 16. Nice job!

NCC shot way too many 3's IMO....Once they got behind 8-10, they started shooting 3s every time down the court and finished just 6-24. I thought that was the difference in the game. HC penetrated and attacked the rim, while NCC sat back and was content with shooting the 3. Obviously, Campbell's presence under the basket, while not scoring many points in this game, may have caused NCC to settle for more outside jumpers. He was a force down low anytime an NCC player penetrated especially in the first half.

Though I have been told not to consider Campbell to be athletic , he alters a ton of shots. After about 10 trips down to his world, the other team has learned to stay out of his house!
