Congratulations to Holy Cross. They played an astounding game. I thought NCC would get easy looks after breaking the press, but when they did, the eraser(Campbell) took care of them. Burger played a smart/strong game and was named mvp. Thompson played very well for HC also and made all tourney along with Campbell.

 

The "eraser" is and always will be owned by Arrez Henderson. Try another name for Campbell...lol

As for the game, Holy Cross was simply the better team. They played smarter, harder, and simply out hustled the Breds all night. Key to the game was HC being able to stay consistent with Campbell out of the game. Thompson did a great job breaking the NCC pressure and creating easy shots both for himself and his teammates.

 

NCC really struggled to defend the ball screen at the top of the key and this created a lot of easy looks and lay ups for the Indians. Jake Burger played a great game at both ends and was very aggressive. I felt HC not falling in to the trap of trying to out shoot the Breds from outside was the difference. Newcath continued to settle for quick 3's while HC was attacking the rim.

 

Still trying to figure out why Newcath tried playing uptempo and didn't fall back in to a zone and force HC to beat them from outside. The Breds had a size advantage and didn't use it at all. Holy Cross was much deeper but force them to beat you from outside! They shoot just 30% from outside on the year. Newcath was 3-20 from outside the first game and only lost by 4...why not change the gameplan?? Not Brannen's best coaching night.

I was not at the game. For whatever it is worth, to support your analysis, Walter, MacDonald had 17 points in the first match-up and 4 points last night. Not getting the ball to him? :idunno:

Macdonald might not have had as many points as the first game, however he did a pretty nice job defensively against Campbell. According to the box score Campbell had 6, well below his average. Campbell was a difference maker on the defensive end blocking and altering shoots.

 

The young man battled hard and has nothing to hang his head about.

They were in the game at 6:00 minute mark of 4th quarter only down 46-40 but went on a 3 point shooting spree that produced only 6 more points the rest of the game. It appeared they paniced and thought they had to make up te difference all at once. Agree the game plan left a lot to be desired.

Bottom line is HC was played a much better and smarter game and deserved to win. If they keep playing like that they will be a tough out for anyone.

Very typical of today's basketball. In a tight game like that, there is one way to get back into it. Play defense and get stops. Work harder for the best shots on offense and score on every possession. Rarely is the 3 pointer going to be your best shot.
